Today is the 13th anniversay of the death of S M Sultan.
Sultan’s paintings may be sold at Sotheby’s in London today but for the people of rural Norail, the guru entered folk legend more than half a century ago. They tell us that animals were drawn to him, that he could converse with […]

Happy Ramadan, Ramadan Mubarak!
Tis the month of sensory deprivation and spiritual reflection, for some. For the rest of us, welcome a month of overeating, over-indulgence, disruptive sleep patterns, night-day confusion.

Julie the Obscurantist

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

Julie Burchill’s short piece on the Jade/Shilpa saga was published in Friday’s Evening Standard. You can find the article online, but I’m going to cut and paste it here.

…why you chav-haters should leave her alone
The predictable chav-baiting, prole-hating scumbags have emerged from their holes in Hampstead to abuse Jade. But I fail to see how […]

She Stoops to Conquer

Shilpa Shetty on Celebrity Big Brother:
It’s taken the CBB show to demonstrate to me that there is a world of difference between beautiful, intelligent, glamorous, generous, genuine stars and no-talent, mean-minded News of the World scrubbers and chav-estate symbols of mediocrity.

Happy Sane New Year

Monday, January 1st, 2007

If you’re tired of impotent chest-beating and mawkish sabre-rattling, tired of the confidence trickery of NeoConservatism and the morality swindlers of New Labour and the pro-war Left, tired of anti-Muslim racism masquerading as anti-Islamist liberalism, tired of not willing to tell the difference between fighting terrorism and the invasion and occupation of Iraq then its […]

Anthony Gonzalves 2007

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Make Anthony Gonzalves your pan-Hindu-Muslim-Christian cake dancing, fit Parsee girl loving, wondrous lyric spouting ideal in 2007:

The Tosser Within

New Kid in Town

Friday, November 17th, 2006

Mrs Sid and I became the happy parents of a baby boy last week. We have given him the name Rishi, which means sage in Sanskrit. He wasn’t named after Rishi Kapoor, 70s superstar hero and Kapoor family thespian, but this piece of classic Bollywood schmaltz certainly played a part in the decision making process.

Pop Sites

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

Two websites by pop musicians that I’ve enjoyed wasting valuable time on:
The Guillemots’ didn’t win the Mercury prize this year but at least their site sports a menu system that puts nav back into navigation.
Get enlightened on the minimalist beauty of the artist known as Akira Rabelais. The man has released a new album Spellewauerynsherde […]
