Mid-air Mancunian Pakistani peasant revolt

by Rohin on 7th May, 2006 at 2:07 pm

It seems that I’m providing the light relief on PP at the moment; studying has tragically rendered my brain useless for anything else.

Economy class passengers aboard a PIA Islamabad-Manchester flight screamed the Marseillaise and stormed the first class cabin yesterday. The angry mob had been kept waiting for hours on scorching Islamabad tarmac and when the plane took off the effeminate cabin crew rapidly lost control. Passengers charged into the empty first class cabin as economy was packed. We have no information on whether business class was full, so I can’t decide if these are brave comrades of the revolution or just free-loading bastards. The pilot radioed Manc Airport who mobilised the Manc police. 14 arrests were made.

I wonder, if this hadn’t been a plane of an airline from a Muslim country, how would a group of angry Pakistanis surging forward on a plane have been treated? Full story.

Below is a picture I found of a PIA plane approching Manchester Airport, how appropriate. Both these pictures are taken from http://www.historyofpia.com, a great little site dedicated to exactly what it says on the tin. The memorabilia and uniform sections are particularly interesting - way ahead of Emirates’ designer uniforms, PIA ladies used to wear Pierre Cardin back in the 50s. Now they’re so drab. There are also cool pics of 1960s playboy Pakistani pilots and their Japanese girlfriends buried around the site.

    PIA, a great airline

I worked in isb for 2 years after 9/11

3 great PIA events spring to mind

    1. The pia flight from isb to hk flew up the karakourum highway, my so called friend went up to the cockpit and had a birds eye view of the pass only 5000m below. I never forgave him!

    2. The flight from chitral to peshawar where you fly over the lawari pass and look up and see mountains above you…

    3. Going to a meeting in Larkhana and being late for a flight from Sukur, only to have my collegue tell me that his ‘cousin’ runs the airport and he has delayed the plane to wait for us…

Actually I was quite impressed on my recent flight with PIA. Not by the catering or the service but with the authorative way this stewardess controlled the passengers as the flight landed at Heathrow. Usually people start grabbing their luggage and jamming the aisles as soon as the plane has touched down but the lady told a couple of men to sit down until the plane had stopped. Nobody moved until she gave the okay.

And actually it’s usually the city dwellers who have ideas above their station and start demanding things before they have even got on the plane, not the “pindus”.

i wont be a bit surprised if this happened on an Air India Mumbai-London flight.
