  • ex-BNP terrorist in the dock

He wanted to shoot Tony Blair and amassed a “record haul” of explosive material. And yet the story of Robert Cottage being arrested never made the national news agenda, only blogs. Anyway, the trial finally started yesterday.

“Rocket man” DID have explosives for war…

BBC NEWS: Ex-BNP man ‘wanted to shoot PM’ Remember the case of the biggest-ever haul of explosive chemicals the police found at a house in Lancashire last October, which hardly made ripples in the national media but was reported in……

Your obsession with Melanie Philips is disturbing…

      Go see a doctor.

I love the way his wife spoke up for him. :D

I think it was his mum Bert, didn’t the wife report him. BTW Channel4 did cover this in last night’s new.

The Islamic bomb will be made from kheer and chappatis.

    6. Juvenal — on 14th February, 2007 at 10:36 am

Mr Cottage has invented a new phrase for the BNP’s racist conspiracies - cottaging.

    7. Bert Preast — on 14th February, 2007 at 11:23 am

Sid - Those unexploded spackers used chappati flour, didn’t they?

What’s the correct material for a BNP bomb? I’m going with bacon butties or perhaps an improvised explosive haddock.

    8. Refresh — on 14th February, 2007 at 12:12 pm

      Now where to begin?

This one seems to have everything.

Mr Cottage is a poor misguided soul misled by those around him and Melanie Philips.

    9. David T — on 14th February, 2007 at 12:15 pm

      Er, Sunny

You realise that the satirist you’re quoting is our resident far right nutter, W J Philips, aka Luniversal aka about 10 other names.

He’s the one who thinks that black people are oversexed and congenitally violent, that immigration has destroyed Britain, and that the fuss over Islamism is a put up job by the jews to distract the world from their own wicked influence. He calls himself a “race realist”.

I don’t delete him because I’m anti censorship. Also, he can be quite droll.

However, you should know that you are reproducing a piece by somebody who would like you -and most of the rest of Pickled Politics - to pack your bags and leave the country.

      Just so you know.

    10. Refresh — on 14th February, 2007 at 12:24 pm

DavidT, that’s just the problem. Its impossible to tell who the nutters are. Even amongst the bloggers on HP.

      Present company excepted of course.

    11. Sid — on 14th February, 2007 at 12:25 pm

However, you should know that you are reproducing a piece by somebody who would like you -and most of the rest of Pickled Politics - to pack your bags and leave the country.

Isn’t that the case with most of the commenters on your blog, David T? All of them seem to be allowed space to post the most tiresome uninhibited racist bilge on there - as long they vaguely tow the HP party line. Meanwhile your co-authors seem to find no problem with telling people who object to that that kind of thing to “fuck right off”.

    12. Sid — on 14th February, 2007 at 12:51 pm

In the spirit of balance, here are a sample of other comments that go unchecked on Harry’s Place.

The point about India is and Hindus is quite silly. When Hindus come to Britain they leave their primitive ways behind them and assimilate and do well. Muslims, even Muslims born here in this civilised country, adhere to a primitive ideology and seem to do so more with each generation.

it’s perfectly legitimate to refer to Arabs as towelheads and camelfuckers

Given that revering Mohammed as the perfect individual (and all the peace be upon him crap) is a basic tenet of faith in Islam (much as the statements in the Nicene creed play a part in Christianity), that’s quite a lot of sickos. Over a billion, in fact.

Also it is more disturbing when those who have been brought up in a civilised country with a standard of living unimaginable to my grandparents, let alone theirs, turn savage.
If you’ve grown up in the jungle, to behave like a savage is more understandable and less shocking.

    13. Bert Preast — on 14th February, 2007 at 12:54 pm

Didn’t someone call someone a Chimp, too?

    14. Sid — on 14th February, 2007 at 12:54 pm

      Is that racist?

    15. Bert Preast — on 14th February, 2007 at 1:03 pm

Don’t know if anything can be racist if you don’t know the race of who you’re talking about?

    16. Amir — on 14th February, 2007 at 1:08 pm

DavidT is a good man. I dislike most of the regular contributors at Harry’s Place along with their repulsive stereotypes of Christianity and the Catholic Church – not to mention their immoral and ideologically-driven views on abortion (Christopher Hitchens makes a similar remark about pro-choice liberals in his recent review of Ann Coulter’s “Godless”). But David, unlike the rest, is a thoroughly decent blogger and a very talented writer.

Be that as it may Sid, didn’t you support the heroic “resistance” of Hezbollah during the Levant Crisis?

      Just wondering. ;-)

    17. Sid — on 14th February, 2007 at 1:10 pm

Sunny used that “chimp” in the pejorative sense rather than as a racist term, Bert. In the HP comments threads, there are far more explicitly racist terms being thrown around than “chimp”.

    18. Sid — on 14th February, 2007 at 1:13 pm

Amir, David T is the only redeeming quality of Harry’s Place. Also, he likes the Smiths unconditionally, which means he must be a good bloke.

I’m yet to see anything remotely racist applied to Christians though. Why don’t you drag a few references here so we can all look see.

    19. Bert Preast — on 14th February, 2007 at 1:13 pm

It was a very poor choice of words.

And the overtly racist term you quote was deleted in minutes, wasn’t it?

    20. Sid — on 14th February, 2007 at 1:14 pm

Only after I kicked up a fuss.

    21. David T — on 14th February, 2007 at 1:20 pm

Haha. My head is going to explode.

    22. Sid — on 14th February, 2007 at 1:22 pm

You’re a pearl amongst swine, DT.

    23. Bert Preast — on 14th February, 2007 at 1:24 pm

At least Harry’s lot managed to stay on topic for more than 10 comments. :D

Ahem, so was Cottage planning a terror campaign, or was he a survivalist nutcase? Does the “record haul” of explosive materials count the rice and sugar found? Was the BNP a place these two met up, or could there be a wing of the party dedicated to planning for a civil war? Even to make one?

    24. Refresh — on 14th February, 2007 at 3:00 pm

DavidT, there was a time when I thought that perhaps HP was on the migration path to recovery from Jihadwatch.

      But no the ideologues remain.

With regards your flock, isn’t it about time you dealt with them? Tell them some home truths (including fellow bloggers)?

As for nutters on PP, its obvious who he is. Took a while to locate him. But he is amongst us.

    25. Refresh — on 14th February, 2007 at 3:34 pm

      Sunny, why the edit?

DavidT, has that thread been removed?

    26. soru — on 15th February, 2007 at 11:28 am

The thing to remember is that as far as the internet is concerned, freedom of speech and freedom of schizophrenia are two concepts that are sometimes hard to tell apart.

Any discussion site not carefully tended will end up dominated by those with various parts of their brain not working. Usually, the part responsible for stopping them saying the same stuff over and over.

    27. Anon+1 — on 15th February, 2007 at 10:48 pm

You get nutter members of nearly any sect or group, was the people who carried out the London bombings acting on behalf of his entire religion? Dont be silly.
