Another smear attempt fails

This should be turned into a series titled ‘Harry’s Place smear attempts’. This one started with Nick Cohen, who is briefed by Tory Bear and promptly churns out a shoddy smear-attempt at a guy called Seph Brown (I don’t know him, but I’ve been following the way TB has tried to hound him for a while).

The blog post gets picked up and run by Michael Ezra at HP… who is then forced to do continual updates until the whole thing is rendered meaningless. What an embarassment again. Hilarious that some people are even too lazy to use Google (or their own blog search) these days. But if your aim is to smear someone as an anti-semite, who cares about facts? Someone should create a journalism label for that blog – ‘Warning: This is an attempt to smear someone as an anti-semite’ – since it’s become such a regular occurrence.

Update: Seph Brown responds – illustrating how dishonest Nick Cohen is.

Maybe the same collective noun/label can be used for attempts at smearing someone as racist or “islamophobic”.

No probably not Roger. For further japes see the hapless Michael Ezra having his measured discussion with Andrew Coates. Apparently for Michael Ezra measured discussions include statements like ‘I therefore have to conclude that you are a supporter of genocide’ and similar sentiments. Its an amusing thread though.

There is of course a complete failure on the part of most posters to unequivocally condemn the condemnations of Israel, which have been condemned on Harry’s Place. Or something like that. Are you now or have you ever been an insufficient condemner?

Seph Brown gives out good advice on avoiding alcoholic smear merchants

jesus, cohen is really scraping the barrel now. zero research, half-remembered conversations, what seems an immediate flight once he thinks he’s got a good ‘story’. and not even the respect to contact the bloke he’s about to denounce.

i also like the way he tried to present his outright accusation of J Brown ‘having a soft spot for islamofascism’ as in some way an appropriate debating tactic.

Cohen’s obsessive dislike of anyone even vaguely connected to Gordon Brown/Charlie Whelan gets more depressing by the day.

I also think it’s pretty fucking obvious that Cohen knows almost nothing about the middle east – he’s comprehensively schooled here.

Given that Seph had already been smeared previously, did Nick meet Seph for any other reason than to smear Mili-Ed by association in the leadership campaign?

Why someone like Seph would even have a conversation with Nick Cohen is beyond me. Then again I’ve been foolish enough to bother getting into an argument with Michael Ezra: whose sole interest in life seems to be smearing the left. I suppose its possible to become morbidly fascinated with the malicious intellectual dishonesty involved. At bottom I think its the product of people proven wrong by events looking around for scapegoats.

Although Seph does need to learn that HP is not the kind of place you should go to to ‘put the record straight’. Ezra’s contribution in the thread below his rejoinder is a classic of its kind, suggesting that he is a liar because Nick Cohen is such a stand-up honest bloke:

The real hate fest then begins.

There was no briefing. I think the esteemed Cohen is good enough to Google Seph’s dark past himself.

Oh wait, that doesn’t fit the ITS A BIG CONSPIRACY line very well though does it. My bad.

    ‘dark past’ – oh please.
