Indian men not happy

by Sunny
8th December, 2006 at 6:22 pm

I should stress at the outset that not all men of Indian origin are, erm, the same. There is considerable, er, diversity within their midst. We like celebrating diversity right? So keep that in mind when reading this.

A survey of more than 1,000 men in India has concluded that condoms made according to international sizes are too large for a majority of Indian men.

The study found that more than half of the men measured had penises that were shorter than international standards for condoms. It has led to a call for condoms of mixed sizes to be made more widely available in India.

But Indian men need not be concerned about measuring up internationally according to Sunil Mehra, the former editor of the Indian version of the men’s magazine Maxim.

“It’s not size, it’s what you do with it that matters,” he said. “From our population, the evidence is Indians are doing pretty well.

A bit too well maybe; the population there is set to overtake China by 2050.
And so begins our temporary focus on light stories. If you want something serious, I’ve written a response to Tony Blair’s speech today on multi-culturalism for CIF.

Kismet, Leon and I have been have a discussion on this, erm, very pressing issue on another thread. Completely useless it was too. So its official – Indian men have small willies.

  3. Leon — on 8th December, 2006 at 7:24 pm

“It’s not size, it’s what you do with it that matters,” he said. “From our population, the evidence is Indians are doing pretty well.

Translation: “Massive overpopulation is totally fine as long as we can use it to make men feel better about having small cocks.”

20 years ago I was told by a rural healthworker in Tamil Nadu that the most popular condoms were the fluorescent ones, because they could be found in the dark. I was not certain then if she was just pulling my leg or if its actually true. Does any one know? I could imagine they would be useful for fishing – the glow might attract the fish to the ragi ball placed inside the condom. Its this sort of things I want anwsers to – not the size of mens’ willys to the nearest millimetre ;-)

“I should stress at the outset that not all men of Indian origin are, erm, the same. There is considerable, er, diversity within their midst.”

LOL….why would you feel impelled to point THAT out? :)

“A survey of more than 1,000 men in India has concluded that condoms made according to international sizes are too large for a majority of Indian men.”

A population sample of 1,000 is noodles compared to the overall population- 1 billion.

I’ve been told more than once by aunties from Punjab – in that “girl talk,” secretive, giggly voice – that there seems to be regional differences…

  12. Desi Italiana — on 8th December, 2006 at 9:03 pm

    From the article:

“The scientists even checked their sample was representative of India as a whole in terms of class, religion and urban and rural dwellers.”

Religion? I didn’t know religion could be a determinant on genetics and biology! What is the difference between a Gujarati Muslim and Gujarati Hindu? Punjabi Sikh and Punjabi Muslim?

I would think it would be more relevant to study the variable of REGION.

  13. Sunny — on 8th December, 2006 at 11:30 pm

That makes sense to me Desi, I think region is probably a big factor too.

Anyway, I was hoping for more sexual innuendos here but clearly the Friday evening audience is not feeling up to it. Where’s Kismet when you need him?

  14. Leon — on 9th December, 2006 at 12:00 am

Wouldn’t religion have dietry differences that over time affect biology?

  15. sunray — on 9th December, 2006 at 12:10 am

Typical article on India by the BBC yet again.

Next they will be doing an article saying Black men can find Biigggg condoms!!

Indian men live all over the world.
I guess we Indians outside India (around the world) are all happy with our small condoms then.

  16. Paco Patel — on 9th December, 2006 at 12:37 am

This news is somewhat surprising. Since racially we are classified as caucasians, I thought we would be closer to whites, not East Asians.

And did everyone measure themselves after reading this article?

  17. Kismet Hardy — on 9th December, 2006 at 11:27 am

It should be worth noting that most of the people that complain are among the poor and, more importantly, uneducated. Let’s face it, the pinnacle of stupidity for any man is to admit he has a tiny pecker (I should know). So it’s worth considering that it isn’t simply the case that they’ve got peanut penises, but more likely don’t know how to put it on. How many, you have to wonder, are trying to put it on while not erect?

But if it really is the case, there’s a spray-on condom coming out soon (much like spray-on tights). As if sex wasn’t ridiculous enough as it is…

Remember the female ‘crisp packet’ condom?

  18. Kismet Hardy — on 9th December, 2006 at 11:29 am

“From our population, the evidence is Indians are doing pretty well.”

    Great advert for condoms, mate…

Err..is this going to be the weekend thread? Amusing though it is,it is a bit sexist dont you think? We women dont feel qualified or bold enought to comment on it.So will have to leave to you Gentlemen to well..compare sizes and religion and nationalities.
So where are the talented weekend thread writers? It is raining out there and i need cheering up!

  20. William — on 9th December, 2006 at 12:06 pm

Anyone bloke with a smaller penis could always just reverse the argument (or cop out) and say it’s a sign of having replaced the animal element in themselves with higher faculties/sentiments etc. After all male greek statues have tiny penises for the idea of not expressing the beast in art etc.

Big penises have sometimes been associated with racism as in the case of black people and also incidently a long time ago with English towards the Scots. There were some of the opinion that male Scots must have big penises and this was the cause of their wildness etc. (the beasty under the tartan!!!)

Thinking about though I can’t imagine many men choosing a smaller than average one out of choice. Hands up who would????? All just a wild bunch at heart really!!!!!!

  23. Joolz — on 9th December, 2006 at 2:37 pm

It’s actually all nonsense, as someone called VJ points out on SepiaMutiny:

    *********

Here’s what it actually says (from Slate):

“But data collected in Mumbai till 2001 showed that 60% of the participants measured 126 to 156 mm in length”

Converting the above, 60% of participants are between 5″-6″

How is this any different from what the Lifestyle Condum Survey of Americans concluded back in 2001?

    http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/WolfFiles/story?id=90588&page=1

A study by Lifestyles Condom Co. shows that … about two-thirds of the 300 college-aged men ranged from between 5.1 and 6.2 inches.

    ***********

Sexuality of the non-white races has always been bound up in racist conceptions — the oversized penis of the black man conjectured as a sign of his animal nature, rapist, violater of white woman. As you can see, this kind of thing has even been repeated on this thread by Sid. The Asiatic mans sexuality can be neutered by spinning this story in another way, as a humiliation — Asians are hated for other reasons I suppose. Either way, it’s false, and the reaction has highlighted a certain racist strand in some of the message board comments around the place, not just here.

  24. Chris Stiles — on 9th December, 2006 at 3:18 pm

To what extent is the statistic quoted biased by nutritional levels?

  25. Sid — on 9th December, 2006 at 3:26 pm

    Joolz, don’t be so flaccid.

  26. Joolz — on 9th December, 2006 at 3:27 pm

I actually find it a little squalid, having read around other message boards, with references to ‘curry dick’ and other such things — one thing it is good for is a reminder of how some white people hate Asians, and can indulge in the crudest stereotying and humiliation to satisfy a sense of their racial superiority. As the analysis by VJ above shows, it is a story that has been spun in a certain way. Its good to be reminded of these things from time to time, how base and hateful people can be.

  27. Joolz — on 9th December, 2006 at 3:28 pm

    Sid, don’t be so racist.

  28. Ravi Naik — on 9th December, 2006 at 4:32 pm

“Its good to be reminded of these things from time to time, how base and hateful people can be.”

Well, I don’t think we should care about what a bunch of losers think. It is usually the case for people with huge inferiority complexes and inadequencies to spout abuse.

I do believe Kismet is absolutely right. In most cases, condoms break or slip because people don’t know how to use them, not because their dicks are too small.

  29. Sunny — on 9th December, 2006 at 4:49 pm

Boys, I know we like penis-size comparing contests on PP, but the whole point of posting this is to say we can also laugh at ourselves and stories like this. So let’s not take all this too seriously. It’s just funny. Laugh.

  31. Don — on 9th December, 2006 at 6:18 pm

I don’t know about the Mumbai study, but the ‘Lifestyle Condum Survey of Americans’ can scarcely be said to have had any serious methodology behind it, going by the link.

  35. Bert Preast — on 9th December, 2006 at 8:25 pm

I expect it’s a myth, but it’s one of my favourtie stories so I’ll tell it anyway.

In the dark winter of 1941, the British were expending quite considerable effort in shipping supplies to our Soviet friends via the Arctic. Said supplies included that military essential, the condom.

Churchill himself is said to have ordered that every condom be of the standard size, but labelled “extra small” in Russian. Forward thinking bloke that he was, he could see the day when the Soviets would not be quite as pally with us and wanted to prepare things so the enormous size of the Ingelski manhood would put the fear of god into Ivan. It worked, didn’t it?

Dammitt!! This penis competition is getting out of hand, even my girlfriend after reading this laughed a bit too much. And Bert She’s Russian :-D

Its all a big conspiracry (?), Mossad’s probably behind it, I heard they have top connections in all the condom firms in the world, damn bastards!!!! That’s why in Israel you get all the multi glow stuff, not just one colour, fuck me it bet there’s a neon one out there. But would it be affected by polonium 210??

  37. Anas — on 9th December, 2006 at 10:40 pm

Indians shouldn’t be too despondent. Having a small cock drives you on to compensate in other ways (small man syndrome): it’s a great motivation to endeavour to achieve more in other areas such as commerce, academia, science, art, etc (not saying I would know of course). In fact I’d say having smaller cocks will give India an even greater edge over its European and American competitors in the coming few years.

OK, it’s a shame for Indian women, but then as India gets richer and Indian women have more disposable income, I can see an opportunity (I was gonna say an opening…) for Ann Summers to capitalise and increase its presence in India. So everyone’s a winner!

My god listen to you all puffing your chests like male peacocks. Sunny’s right, laugh about it! I think this is a hilarious PR stunt.

I’m sorry so say it guys but I think there might be some element of truth in this which is why it’s creating a reaction.

As for the ‘curry penis’ comment, i’ve never heard that but might be a great flavoured condom. Ha ha. I’m kidding before you all jump down my throat (ehm).

Not sure what you think about this either but my gfriends and I have discussed it before – the general consensus is that a guy who is small (either in actual height or in his nether regions) will generally be less secure than men who are tall or large. Short man’s syndrome. Small guys feel the need to shout louder or ‘make up’ for their manly shortfalls. To a certain degree, I believe this is true – what do you think?

ps. don’t worry, I know us women think there are HOT asian men out there who can more than rise to the occassion! ;)

  40. Anas — on 10th December, 2006 at 1:22 pm

    Sunny,

So this may explain why Asian men and black women for that matter are the least inter-racially dated people. Asian men for their lack of sexual vigor and black women for the bar that has been raised by expiriences with notoriously well endowed black men.

and yeah..if the thread were titled ‘indian women’ not happy it would have been even funnier…!

really? i’d say it was down to ( assuming that it was a correct stat) that it was perhaps – down to – if anything.. all this obsession of feeling the need to date a girl who is ‘fairer’ than them.

  78. sonia — on 11th December, 2006 at 2:29 pm

anas – did i say i engage in the practice? :-) why do you assume that because some asian women engage in it that must automatically include me? actually im perfectly happy with my dark skin as it happens. ( though you of course wouldn’t believe that) should i assume likewise you have a small dick and aren’t happy about it?

and secondly – because other people might be engaging in similar sorts of silliness – how does that either excuse or make your own silliness better?

    :-)

    woot!!

  80. sonia — on 11th December, 2006 at 2:32 pm

You really can’t get out of the ‘ethnic minority’ box can you ANas – at the end of the day that is your overall problem i feel. fair enough for you if that’s the case. you clearly feel victimized on several scores. I do find it amusing that you somehow then extrapolate from that to infer that all asians/muslims/minorities must feel the same as you!

    How droll.

  81. sonia — on 11th December, 2006 at 2:38 pm

Dont worry Anas – don’t take it personally old chap..we all have a bee in our bonnet. Can you guess what mine is? :-)

    indeed…

i hate that term sisters – i really do. i always thought at those few terrible ‘muslim’ “discussion” ( i.e. **read authoritarian lecture**) things ive been to- when they insist on referring to the women as ‘sisters’ i always felt like standing up and shouting ‘im not your fucking sister’.

    i mean hello!

    84. yeah exactly miraxx – i know what you mean about the uncle and aunty thing – but as you say – its the religious context. especially when a lot of those guys will refer to someone as ‘sister’ and if you’re a goody-goody sister enough they might well proposition you – and then what! what kind of ‘incestuous’ situation would that then be ? gross. i mean its obviously to fool themselves into thinking that they ought not to view the ‘sister’ sexually but we know they do really
( cos of all this fuss about ‘keep covered!otherwise we will be inflamed!” crap) surely one shouldn’t be ‘inflamed’ by seeing one’s ‘sister’ ‘uncovered’. GOSH! what a weird bunch..

  86. mirax — on 11th December, 2006 at 3:06 pm

That’s probably the only action he gets from the ladies anyway, Ravi. You gotta feel sorry for the guy. Maybe he should use Clairwil’s cosmic ordering thingamajig and get properly laid. Will do him a world of good.

    ha ha ravi :-)

  88. Anas — on 11th December, 2006 at 6:08 pm

Wow, I’ve never felt like the least immature person in a PP thread before. Thanks sisters.

  89. Anas — on 11th December, 2006 at 6:12 pm

You really can’t get out of the ‘ethnic minority’ box can you ANas

Well, it’d be hard to unless I was completely delusional, since I am in an ethnic minority. And the ‘sister’ thing is just politeness, like when old white geezers call me “son”. What do you want me to say, “yo bitch!”?

  90. ZinZin — on 11th December, 2006 at 6:30 pm

Anas does islamophobia make you horny? Reading Melanie Phillips must be your viagra.

  91. Anas — on 11th December, 2006 at 6:37 pm

I can recall an encounter a few years ago that I found really encouraging. I was walking down a lane, minding my own business, when I was approached by two middle-aged Sikh men wearing turbans and full beards. They were having difficulties with a mobile phone, actually they couldn’t open the phone’s case, and asked me whether I could help. Being pretty useless at most things, despite my attempts, I was of fuck all assistance. But it was the way they asked me, addressing me respectfully as “Bhai”(brother) that really heartened me, that gave me pause for a few seconds that maybe Universal Brotherhood wasn’t such an impossible prospect, maybe the hippies are onto something. That was just a few seconds of course and I was back to my normal-self, but it stayed with me.

So, I’m just depressed that you could so completely or cynically impugn the motives of anyone who refers to others as “brother” or “sister”.

  92. Jai — on 11th December, 2006 at 6:43 pm

=>”, that gave me pause for a few seconds that maybe Universal Brotherhood wasn’t such an impossible prospect,”

“Universal Brotherhood” is one of the core tenets of Sikhism, Anas. It’s one of the most basic teachings of the religion.

  93. Jai — on 11th December, 2006 at 6:45 pm

Also, people in India call strangers “Bhai” (or “Bhaisaab”) all the time.

  94. Anas — on 11th December, 2006 at 6:53 pm

That’s one of the things I like most about Asian culture, the respectful terms of address. Calling elders “aunty” or “uncle”, calling strangers “brother” or “sister”, it just gets things off on the right course.

I find it amusing to read that Mirax doesn’t mind when service people do it — why they’re only service people — but she does dislike people of a higher social strata using the convention. And sonia knows that it’s just a way of masking lustful male intentions.

And ZZ, if reading MP was viagra, then looking at photos of her is the equivalent of a cold shower, ugh!

Yeah, put me in the snob box now, why dontcha. By the way it is you who puts religious freaks on 8a higher social strata* than service people- I do the OPPOSITE, which is why i hate fuckers in a church, temple or mosque calling me sister and don’t mind it at all when the cleaner does so (in fact i rather like it!). Stuff that down your grievance choked throat.

    Pablo,

That ligali site is a trip but I have heard their sentiments before from people. The more things change the more they stay the same. Blacks in america will talk about Arabs slave masters in order to seduce blacks away from the Arab religion all on behalf of the politics of the day. Yeah whatever Arabs are racist but so are so many other people. I have dealt with alot of people in life and racists come in all shapes in sizes. I dont play racial politics. My skin will not get me to paradise. Exactly what does Arab racism have to do with my belief in one God and Muhammed being His Messenger? Nothing really. The Arabs were the first to try to kill Prophet Muhammed and succeeded in killing many of his companions to whom I owe my understanding of the religion. So yeah in that respect i got beef with Arabs.

    Leon:

“Wouldn’t religion have dietry differences that over time affect biology?”

I may be wrong about this, but I don’t think the religious dietary laws are followed in a clean cut manner. For example, not all Hindus are vegetarians; Punjabi Hindus do eat meat, but not beef as do Kashmiri Hindus; Bengali Hindus eat fish. I also know some Sikhs who don’t eat meat (more so out of personal preference rather than a religious dictate).

Furthermore, I don’t think meat is eaten daily even in meat eating religious households (ie Muslims and Christians). I don’t know if this is accurate, maybe someone else knows something. So perhaps religious dietary customs might not affect penis size over time.

    **********************

Also, nothing has been referenced to the size of women. I mean, if women on the whole tend to be smaller, having men with small members wouldn’t be so bad, no? But then again, the vagina is a muscle which can stretch so maybe its doesn’t matter…

  98. sonia — on 12th December, 2006 at 10:56 am

    95 – yeah miraxx – i agree with you.

anas why do you think the term sister is polite? it’s not so in general usage – there is a very specific usage of the term sister which not all people would find appealing. why are you imposing your assumptions on other folks? you could address people by name. no doubt the next person who calls you ‘paki’ would say – well i was only being polite. :-)

anyway you’ve set up some silly men vs. women thing on this thread – that’s why its so funny. you do realize you seem to do this a lot? perhaps not.

  99. Ravi Naik — on 12th December, 2006 at 11:04 am

“My skin will not get me to paradise.”

    What do you mean?

  100. sonia — on 12th December, 2006 at 11:06 am

oh yeah – the aunty uncle thing is part of ‘asian culture’ ( and no doubt featured in others too!) but the ‘brother sister’ thing sure as hell ain’t. ( when speaking in english – as opposed in hindi/etc. ) in my experience it’s usage reflects more a religious sort of viewpoint i.e. the islamic brotherhood sort of thingie – or other sorts of equally crappy enforced community-hood. and one of the reasons i find the usage of the term ‘brother’ and ‘sister’ in the religious context so offensive is actually it’s used pretty selectively. you don’t find people referring to the so-called ‘infidels’ as brothers – and so out goes the concept of global human rights with that – so yeah that’s why i find it pretty offensive. and generally i find the whole ‘enforced community’ thing really crap. the whole ethnocentric we’re asian/x/y therefore we must have something in common crap’. yeah we might have sth in common cos we’re human! nothing to do with anything else.

  101. sonia — on 12th December, 2006 at 11:09 am

in case anas gets confused – “you do realize you seem to do this a lot? perhaps not.” i meant end up with us vs them attitudes. im express my views – Sonia’s views – not some generic #asian brown women# views.

Gross Alert – read no further if you are having your lunch. ( but I know you all can’t resist)

Channel hoping last night I happened apon on Ch5 – SEX for women in the 21st Century. Some woman was mentioning the taste of semen and how it altered with the diet of the man.
    Meateater – pungent
    Smoker – bitter
    alcohol – sour
    vegitarian – sweet.

Thereyou go – that was an interseting set of factoids.

    Bikhair said –

“I have dealt with alot of people in life and racists come in all shapes in sizes”

“the more things change the more the stay the same”

    ain’t that the truth!

  104. bikhair — on 12th December, 2006 at 4:56 pm

    Ravi,

I meant my skin color will not matter on the day of judgement. Neither will my hair, nose, or anything like that. Its is my beliefs and practices that will matter and on that basis I will prejudge.

  105. usman — on 19th December, 2006 at 11:17 am

This was the pecious information given to the world by indian council for medical research that more that half of the 1000 men in India have small penis even withou referring to the actual size and the standard in their mind.

In the end they were saying indian men are still doing well because of one billion population that everyone can see. THis is a perfect example of “Grapes are sour”.

I think after this event the north western indians must look for their independent coutries. Because this stupid term of indian will heart them now and those who say that pakistani=Indian, they are wrong only people from Indian punjab and kashmir (that is part of pakistan but occupied by india) are the same as pakistani people.
Since most of the so-called indians in UK and else where abroad are of punjabi origin that is why they are mistaken as pakistanis. But anyone from other parts of india with almost black skin and now proven small penis does not look like a pakistani or even like indian punjabi. I think this is a shame to indian punjabis to call themselves Indians after they have got this information about the small penis size of actual indians (that is excluding the north west of India)

And those who say that we are all brown. then you can find people in latin America , southern italy , turkey and arab countries that are also brown. So will this mean that since they are brown skin they also share the small penis size as the brown indians have (well advertised by their own medical research council) then this thinking is a bull shit.

So results that your medical council has released to give the indian men a good fame about their penis size all over the world applies only to the INDIA and not to its adjoining countries. Be happy with this gift from your medical research council.

  106. Raju — on 19th December, 2006 at 12:54 pm

usman, its the other way round pakistanis are mistake for indians, read the ligali link in the thread above — and know how other people see you — enjoy! ;-)

by the way, people from indian punjab are not the same as pakistanis — you are muslim, indian punjabis are not, massive massive huge difference, so dont be silly. nobody wants to be associated with pakistanis who are thought of as being suicide bombers terrorists and cousin marrying in-breds (with small penises) :-)
