Comments on: Martin Bashir joins ABC’s Nightline

I have seen Mr. Bashir’s performance on Nightline here in the U.S.

And lately, he comes off as a nervous, frieghtened little man who never smiles. Very droll and humourless when compared to Terry Moran and Cynthis Mc Fadden.

If he is going to make it as an “anchor” here in the U.S., he has to remember that he is no longer a “news reader”. He has to show some warm personality if he expects to be accepted by U.S. audiences. Don’t get me wrong. He seems like a nice bloke and all.

But American audiences expect more than just news reading from their anchors.

Martin Bashir? Inflated and Ego are the only two words that come to mind. I think Hardeep Singh Kohli of the Last Word is much more cuddly.

You’re in the queue behind me mate! Daljit Dhaliwal has a big persona only because she has legions of intrnet fans. But it is still a cable network where ABC’s Nightline is seen as quite flagship, as far as I can tell.

Not bad for a guy who started at the Voice so many moons ago. You can’t blame him for trying to make a living – there’s a demand for the stuff he peddles and he peddles it well.

Highest post for a Brit? Higher than Richard Quest? And where does CNN anchor rank in comparison to ABC Nightline? Daljit Dhaliwal would still be the most recognisable British Asian to Americans, wouldn’t she? Although I have no idea what she’s doing now.

Martin Bashir has delusions of self-importance as an intermediary between the social elite and everyday folk, like he’s a man who can appeal to both parties.
I think he’ll suit American TV news/current afairs programme’s. It’s just so faux! And way – “like uber-way” – over the top, where they can sensationalise anything!!!
The Americans will love him.
They can have him too!

it seems UK presenters/journo’s are going all over the place. I couldn’t believe it when I found out that Sir David Frost is off to Al-Jazeera.
