What was and still is interesting about the Lozells thing was the attitude of the Black press and other organization like Ligali. There was an article in Eastern eye last week which quoted an Asian in the area as saying that the Black newspaper the Voice had been responsible for inciting Blacks to attack Asian businesses. What the paper should have said was that its companion paper in the Ethnic Media group New Nation did exactly the same. There is no doubt that the Black press was an absolute disgrace in the matter with Ligali I think going as far as to say that even though the rumours might be unfounded there should still be a boycot of Asian businesses. I read the Black press every Monday and have not found an article which deals with what actually happened. They are certainly in denial.

God,
I'd forgotten what a truly, bloody depressing story that was. I don't want to get too far into the causes of criminal and anti-social behaviour, not with my o levels! In my experience people tend to go for approval, whether its approval of violent behaviour, hassling women, being good at really hard sums, drug dealing, being minted and so on. There is a culture of working hard to 'better yourself' in poor areas there is also a 'hardman' culture. One can earn respect either way.

Truly we are a virus with shoes. It's just that some of us are more deadly than others.

Your referring to Leon Bedward aka Warren G. But he's not the only one who should be arrested for incitement to violence/racial hatred.

Why feel sorry for them BevanKieran? They sound like future sex offenders.

Agreed, that's a definite possibility*. I feel sorry for them because it seems like their days were spent around loitering the streets cursing at women. Isn't that a waste of human potential? I've seen in it less malicious forms, among family with through depression, low-esteem etc resulting in suicide or madness or just doing nothing.

Is the ASBO that suitable? They could be given exclusion orders between themselves.

[Perhaps they were foolish enough to go to yet another crap school with low expectations for Muslim pupils, only to join the proportionately poorly qualified Muslim youth who are significantly more likely to be on the dole, where community support consists of an Imam who barely speaks English and thinks anyone with an opinion of their own is a kufr.]

Yakoub/Julaybib

i doubt a 11 year has much choice what school they go to, its often decided by catchment areas. poor attainment and pakistanis go hand in hand now its progressed to major graduate unemployment amongst pakistanis. btw the imam bit is true,

lets remember these boys prob had at least 15 years of religious education, if the schools have failed. then the failure from the mosque based religious education system has failed them 10 times as much.

btw im going to ask the imam at my local mosque to let me do the adhaan, fingers crossed he wont cuss me/slap me/throw me out but i may have to challenge the old 92 year old buddha who normall does it to an arm wrestle. wish me luck.

what happened about the apparent gang rape of an african girl by 20 plus asian blokes that turned out to be the fabrication created by africans in order to incite violence and which started the riots off? or are you only going to point the finger at muslims as usual?

Yakoub/Julaybib

That post is reminescent of liberal views that the poor commit crime because they are poor.

Their crimes apart you know very little of those thuggish perverts upbringing and life yet are willing to excuse it because they had a tough life. Patronising.

Lots of people have had a tough life yet they do not commit crime. It is the poor who suffer most from crime and anti-social behaviour. They did wrong and they were punished they will probably break their asbos and go to prison. No-one who has been a victim of theirs will shed a tear.

Now I know the aforementioned fools didn't go to jail, but still, their tussle with the criminal justice system still begs some troubling questions, oddly enough not addressed much by the (particularly) right wing media in recent weeks.

1. What percentage of the British population is Muslim?
2. What percentage of the Male prison population Muslim?
3. Even taking into account the young demographic of British Muslims, why are so many young Muslim men in jail?

Perhaps they were foolish enough to go to yet another crap school with low expectations for Muslim pupils, only to join the proportionately poorly qualified Muslim youth who are significantly more likely to be on the dole, where community support consists of an Imam who barely speaks English and thinks anyone with an opinion of their own is a kufr.

If that was my life, I'd be intimidating. But then I'm just a scarey bleeding heart liberal.
