Racial mixing and libertarian hypocrisy

1. Here’s a blog on the ConservativeHome that bizarrely has no byline attached to it. The author angrily says: Candidate calls Britain “the most mongrel country in the world” – yet the Left haven’t batted an eyelid. Apparently Libdem candidate Sandy Walkington said:

We’re all mongrels. I mean, this country is the most mongrel country in the world. In fact it’s the country with the most mixed-race relationships in the world. In 200 years we’ll all be coffee-coloured – and I’ve got no problem with that.

And why should anyone get outraged over that? It looks like the editors at ConHome, for all their anti-racist rhetoric, aren’t quite so keen on inter-racial mixing. Lord save us if we all become coffee-coloured! OMG! They really are desperate.

2. On a related note here is Dan Hannan MEP realising that being a fan of people-power isn’t so fun when public opinion is against you.

What? WHAT? Did she know that Nick Clegg wanted to offer citizenship to anyone who managed to stay ahead of our immigration service for ten years? What kind of signal did she think that an amnesty would send to other potential sans-papiers?

As I’ve said before – when it comes to immigration the Tories really do go completely bonkers. Here’s another self-described libertarian who is anything but. Here is another ‘compassionate Tory’ who is anything but. Daniel Hannan doesn’t have principles, he is just good at speaking. When it comes to the crunch, he’s another little-Englander Tory.

It is a pretty infantile statement though

Surely immigration is one of those where the free market can reign? If Britain ever becomes overcrowded enough to affect quality of life too much, then people would stop coming and start to leave, right?

That’s assuming these libertarians aren’t all just nationalists who want privilege when they can get it rather than acting out of a principle.

I like Hannan (of course) but you’re spot on #1.

Labour dont seem to be any better

LONDON (AFP) – The Labour party has suspended a candidate ahead of the May 6 general election, it said Monday, after he boasted about his sex life online.

John Cowan, 35, was also accused of saying he “would not be happy” if his children dated a Muslim, the Sunday Telegraph newspaper said.

Describing his sex life, Cowan reportedly wrote: “Why limit it to just one woman? I would prefer one for each day of the week!”

James – here’s John Cowan’s cached profile from before teh suspension – not terribly impressive – and apparently he was expelled from the Lib Dems a few years ago!

Maybe I’m confused (I often am these days)and have the wrong thread, but I can’t seem to find the cordial exchange between MM and I, in which we disagreed over the amnesty. It appeared, but now seems to have disappeared.

Am I missing something re: the title of the piece?

Conservative Home is about as unlibertarian as you can get, nor does it claim to be liberatian, while Dan Hannan attacks an amnesty for illegal immigrants, which has nothing to do with racial mixing. There are reasonable arguments for and against an amnesty; I think there should be one, but I don’t believe that anyone who opposes one is a rabid xenophobe:

“And why should anyone get outraged over that?”

    1) It isn’t even remotely true. Over 80% of Britons can trace their lineage back 14000 years in these Isles

    2) Mongrel is a term for dogs

    3) How about we put it as it is “In 200 there will be no white people left– and I’ve got no problem with that.”

    4) Or another way that you just might find outrageous “In 200 there will be no Asians / Jews / Black people left– and I’ve got no problem with that.”

@dot gov. I think Walkington’s comment was inept although his intention seems to have been benign. ‘Mongrel’ and ‘coffee coloured’ are both words one might expect to find used by someone with quite the opposite views on mixing races. If someone had said there will be no white (or black) people left in a triumphalist way then that would be unpleasant. But obviously that wasn’t the tone in this instance. Jews don’t quite fit as they can be mixed race in any case!

yeah, yeah, yeah. people have been saying that about us for over two millennia and yet, still, here we are, in everyone’s faces, like the millwall of minorities only better educated. i think you’ll find that as we’re not a race, racial mixing isn’t actually the reason we’re still around, rather the fact that we have a transferable lifelong learning culture among other things.
