What LibertyPhile said – it’s a joke about ‘sheepshaggers’ using the anything goes mentality of Labour’s multiculturalist idealism to, well, marry a sheep.

That anti-racists would see this, in their mind, as an outrageous protofacist message that immigrants = animals, is surely entirely predictable however.

I think the question is, was the Daily Mail editor/sub-editor aware that the latter would be the unquestionable interpretation by the left? I am inclined to think that they were indeed aware and did it to provoke. And not bothered that some out and out racists would take the same interpretation.

Faisal Gazi’s defence of the Daily Mail’s cartoon is a new low even for him. It’s been astonishing to see his descent from a left-wing fighter for justice to an acolyte and defender of the neo-con far right. Like watching a butterfly turn into a slug.

Here he is in a previous incarnation:

Any objective and non-confrontational reading of this would suggest that
you are willing to see the abuses of Christianity and Islam, but are
only prepared to blame one of them – and that is Islam. This gives your
game away and proves that you simply have an (hidden) agenda and an axe
to grind.

For example you forgotten to include in your sweeping surmise that the
USA (a Christian Democracy) has been involved in 42 wars and conflicts
in the last 40 years. This is a record of violence unbeaten by any
country, Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist or whatever takes your
fancy.

It may be that you do not wish to include the USA in your statistics
because you are not willing to bite the hand that feeds. I can only
congratulate you then on your caution.
