I was a big fan of localised government when I lived under a centralised government.

Having now spent over 10 years living under very localised governments, I am a big fan of centralised government. I’m not alone either, and our central government is increasing it’s powers bit by bit all the time.

Would introducing more democracy mean greater social/community cohesion or would it turn into higher tensions as local groups fight for more sway?

I think this too is a real possibility.
