Why didn’t Sunny allow Asghar to speak? Why was he interupting Asghar as I wanted to know what his answer would be.

One rule for the people he hates/dislikes and another for himself?

The thing about cultures that have diverse, choiceful media, in which it just so happens that everyone in culture A gets one set of daily news, and everyone in culture B gets a different set, is that it becomes possible for them to be led into a war with each other.

To quote TFI from the other thread

<blockquote>or is it: “ooh they can’t understand ‘us’”

Mutual incomprehension, mutual misunderstanding.

That’s where it is at.

Sunny, I had responded with robust views on how repulsive I found this Digital Ghetto label. But its disappeared into the ether. Another time perhaps

My suggestion is Digital Choice - exercised like everyone else in green and pleasant land.

Refresh and Tasneem, you are right. I'm writing an article on this to explain in more detail what I mean and what needs to be done. I don't particularly like the term 'digital ghetto' either. We need something alternative. Suggestions?

Rather a weak story from the BBC. Enough of an intro for all the various Asian media industry specialists.

As for the Digital Ghetto - rather pathetic label. My wife watches Leonardo (Italian channel). Don't ask me why, as she doesn't understand Italian. But we have been eating some really nice Italian food lately. Yes, from recipes from some Italian Jamie Oliver or Rick Stein (only more rotund).

As for the labelling - I saw elsewhere (Guardian I believe) where Islamic classes become labelled 'camps'.

Sunny - I think being a media man perhaps its worth analysing this labelling business.

... "When they're (mainstream media) trying to cover a particular community or issue they're doing it from an outsider's perspective".

That zeroes in a very crucial issue. Why and where exactly the mainstream leaves a void? And when resulting culture/tendency of tuning into the "home channels" are styled as "digital ghetto", that's fallacious, buddy.

Dunno about morally lax western folk, but after years of eastern cooking, I could tell you a thing or two about being morally laxative

And the very idea that Eastenders is the most popular tv programme about ethnic folk has just brought on the shits again...
