Poll: what should PP do with our commenting system?

by Leon on 5th December, 2009 at 4:40 AM

There’s been some email discussion and a fairly short but pertinent public discussion about PP’s new commenting system. I’ve stated my opposition to it but continuing on from the discussion I think it’s only fair the readers have a chance to vote.

I don't know whether it's been mentioned, but I find the little latest comments more difficult to read than the previous system. I don't know whether the font can be enlarged without enlarging the whole page. That influences my decision. Maybe it's a subtle way of screening out presbyopic readers. :-)

      Good idea Leon.

The “latest comments section” and possibly numbering the comments could indeed be improved. But the new comment system is objectively better than the old one.

=> My comments do not go to the spam folder
=> I think the feedback system is cool (having the “like” button)
=> The possibility to “reply” to someone
=> The fact that I can edit my posts until someone replies to it, and not have a timer.

I tend to post on my iPhone so font sizes adjust when I tap the screen in any case..

Cheers, I figure discussion is a good start but numbers give a clear idea of how popular the new system is.

Delighted to get the figures from America.

I find the new Discus comments system irritating, and several times it hasn't let me post comments. Go back to the old one, it wasn't broken.

As a rare visitor, I am neutral.
But I have noticed in that the site is slower and temperamental (the technology, that is. The site in other regards has always been temperamental).
