Sledging (insulting your opponents) is a big part of Australian sport – part of character building, and it is all left on the field unless it is racial. In other words, you can’t call someone a ‘black c**t’, but you are free to call them a ’stupid c**t’. You see, it is the first bit they take exception to – the last bit they agree with.

A classic was a bulky Zimbabwean cricketer, Ed Brandes who hit a boundary in a match. The angry Australian bowler, Glenn McGrath said to him ‘why are you so fat’. He reply: ‘Coz every time I f**k your wife, she gives me a buscuit’. Great laughs all round.

Racism has been rife in football for as far as I can remember. But players are always told to ingore it and any other provocation.

They’re told not to react to it but they’ve never been told to ignore it! (and hopefully soon homophobia)

I find the whole situation laughable with the Zidane issue.

Racism has been rife in football for as far as I can remember. But players are always told to ingore it and any other provocation.

If you don’t ingnore it, you play into your opponent players/fans hands.

What I don’t understand though, it why just cause Zidane done it, all of a sudden it is acceptable to headbutt someone if they insult your family??!!

Are you honestly trying to tell me, that no-one has ever insulted anyones family before on the pitch??
