Haven't been able to go through all the comments... i'm afraid they got a bit corpulent and boring. No offense. Maybe i just like reading quality porn.

pornography is great, or atleast my affair with it has been enjoyable. Always. Besides, why watch or read something that's not enjoyed?

again, prewarned apologies, but most of you guys suck. Since when has porn been for the sole purpose of PERSONAL pleasure?

Some of my most memorable sexcapades have been with porno-hotties moaning in the background.

Ofcourse, there is a maligned side to everything. Sexual abuse needs to be prevented. but it will not stop if we close our minds to our sexual appetites and nature. I get a hard-on almost every morning and i know i like to wake up to a wanton expression on my girl's face.

spread of information and knowledge always opens the door to misuse of that info - pandora's box. But that's a myth. truth is that the only way to combat sexual abuse is to be open to sex and its extremes, to know about it and understand what abuse is.

Infact, i feel pornograophy is a great way to keep sexual perverts at bay. If they know its available on dvd, most won't graduate from pervs to perps.

I say, Hurrah Porn!

Amir - how funny. You're the second person to have asked me this question in the past 2 days.

Think about it, even if I had, would I admit it on a site filled with testorone fuelled asian men? Me thinks not ;-)

<i>"Actually, that happened to me when I was 12. What made it worse was that my mum laughed rather than get cross"</i>

Mine was worse. My pile of porn under my bed disappeared one day when I was 13. I knew my mom had took it, but she didn't say a word, and of course I didn't as well. The silence was embarassing. But that would prepare me for the psychological warfare that one endures when living with the opposite sex. :)

You've seen porn which is horrifying? Rohin, I'm beginning to think you might have a dark side. Just kidding.

Completely agree with your point - just think that when it comes to mixing extremes like sexually abused people with the porn industry, well, let's just say a shudder goes down my spine. Feels kinda heartless to say 'you're over 18, deal with it'.

I've seen some porn which is horrifying. It's perfectly apparent that the woman is not enjoying herself and it is essentially abuse. So yes, I'm aware porn has a dark side.

But Rakhee what I meant about choosing a way to earn money is that when people are looking for money, they do things they may not want to. This is a fact of life and not exclusive to porn. If the porn industry was not so large, far more women would enter the sex trade as prostitutes. Strip bars were looked upon as nasty places which exploited women, but now they are regarded by some as great jobs to have (not sure about that) but they certainly have improved. The same is happening in porn, women are increasingly in control and better treated.

People can be vulnerable and open to others taking advantage of them. This is true of money lenders, porn directors, glamour modelling photographers, builders etc etc etc. We can't wring our hands and say "ooh but they're being taken advantage of" if they are entering the industry of their own free will. This is the way of the world, adults have to fend for themselves. As long as they are over 18 and decide themselves to do porn, I can't see anything wrong with it.

People should enter porn with their <strike>legs</strike> eyes open and the more formal contracts etc exist, the better.

Rohin - agree with you overall but not convinced about your comment 'In terms of women going into the sex trade because they had been sexually abused, sorry to sound insensitive, but so what? People always make career choices based on their experiences'.

There's a huge difference between working as a secretary or post man and being a porn star. Sexual intimacy is a powerful thing which (whether you're f**king or 'making luurve') does have some sort of psychological impact. If you've been sexually abused, working as a porn star will damage you mentally more so than a normal profession.

The fact is that the porn industry is highly lucrative. Stars know that that while they're young, they can make more money in one day than they could in a month elsewhere. You also don't need to be educated (I'm beginning to sound like an bloody advert). The point is that if you're vulnerable (emotionally, financially or academically even), I can see that it can be attractive which isn't a good thing for people who can't handle it.

Being so lucrative also leads to women being forced to do something which they don't want to do. We all know that women are taken from one country to the next on false pretences (in a similar way to prostitution) to be in porn films as they have no choice.

Most worryingly, the porn industry has a dark side.

If you're balanced and you see porn for what it is, I personally think it's harmless and can be a part of a healthy sexual relationship for BOTH women and men.

However, there are some depraved people out there (both producing the films and watching them) who will go to any lengths to feed a not-so-pleasant desire.

This is the part which I can imaging is spiralling out of control.

fotze, Amir and others. In the show, I don't really say anything different to what you've been saying but just from a slightly different angle. <strike>Bare</strike> Bear in mind that I was given a position I had to defend, as opposed to being chosen for my viewpoint. I was trying to help out, but I didn't say anything I disagree with.

Essentially, what I said was that porn has always and will always exist, there will always be a market for it. So why not regulate it and make sure conditions are better than they often are now?

In terms of women going into the sex trade because they had been sexually abused, sorry to sound insensitive, but so what? People always make career choices based on their experiences. Porn is not unique as an unusual and sometimes unpleasant industry to go into simply because you've had a difficult life. We can't prevent people from doing something based on our opinion of whether they are 'balanced' or not.

Likewise, men who watch porn and think that all women like it in the face are idiots.

Amir I'm sure most people prefer having sex to watching it. But apart from those men who get porn creep (hooked on it), it doens't become a substitute for sex, simply an adjunct. Men with a sexual partner have a joust just like men without a partner do; it satisfies different things for different people.

What you seem to be referring to Amir is someone whose taken it too far - neglecting your social life and staying in on Friday night with a box of Kleenex and Naughty Nurses is lame (unless they're real nurses...hmm) and the kind of people who do that would probably always find something to isolate themselves from social interaction. I think it's completely wrong to say that men only like 'fucking', that's a wild generalisation.

Finally, despite agreeing to talk about this - and as I said I don't say anything I don't believe - I really don't care for porn, <i>personally</i>. But yet I'm in favour of it.

Actually, that happened to me when I was 12. What made it worse was that my mum laughed rather than get cross. Women can be so cruel. I locked myself in the toilet for hours. I still bristle at the embarassment.
Still, could have been a lot worse -- I could have been caught in the act of putting the porn to good use. Now that would be the absolute fucking worse. Keep your eyes and ears peeled Vik.

Oh, doctor, what are you stirring up? Jeebus. I was a women's studies major and read all the feminist essays about "empowered" women who "freely chose" careers in the sex industry. Heck, one of my fellow students was a stripper and said she considered men merely to be ATM machines. My own *personal* observation is that most of the college-educated, politicized sex workers I met in San Francisco had histories of sexual abuse and turned to that field in order to take control of something that had been taken away from them at a young age. Now, does this mean that looking at depictions of sex is bad? Nah, humans have done it since forever and it will never go away. But the contemporary situation makes me queasy on a visceral level. My other observation, having had boyfriends of all kinds for the past 15 years, is that a porn habit in and of itself says very little -- it's the guy's MIND that matters. Some look at porn and immediately equate it to real life -- "What, don't ALL women like bukkake? They sure look like they do in those videos!" and others just use it as occasional wank material and it doesn't affect them actually having emotionally intimate relations with females or seeing them as equal intellectual beings. I think porn can poison someone who's already wired in a bad way and give them horrible ideas, but it's probably harmless to others. But one should always question WHY people are taking part in porn, and whether it's something that can truly turn you on if you think about the possible circumstances that led to it (i.e, abuse, needing money, etc). There's also obviously the question of severity -- are you talking Page 3 girls (which appall EVERY fellow American I've asked about it -- the fact that they're scattered around tube carriages around children really annoys me) or are you talking darker things? Where does one draw the line?
