Ofcourse, there is a maligned side to everything. Sexual abuse needs to be prevented. but it will not stop if we close our minds to our sexual appetites and nature. I get a hard-on almost every morning and i know i like to wake up to a wanton expression on my girl’s face.

Mine was worse. My pile of porn under my bed disappeared one day when I was 13. I knew my mom had took it, but she didn’t say a word, and of course I didn’t as well. The silence was embarassing. But that would prepare me for the psychological warfare that one endures when living with the opposite sex.

Completely agree with your point – just think that when it comes to mixing extremes like sexually abused people with the porn industry, well, let’s just say a shudder goes down my spine. Feels kinda heartless to say ‘you’re over 18, deal with it’.

But Rakhee what I meant about choosing a way to earn money is that when people are looking for money, they do things they may not want to. This is a fact of life and not exclusive to porn. If the porn industry was not so large, far more women would enter the sex trade as prostitutes. Strip bars were looked upon as nasty places which exploited women, but now they are regarded by some as great jobs to have (not sure about that) but they certainly have improved. The same is happening in porn, women are increasingly in control and better treated.

People can be vulnerable and open to others taking advantage of them. This is true of money lenders, porn directors, glamour modelling photographers, builders etc etc etc. We can’t wring our hands and say “ooh but they’re being taken advantage of” if they are entering the industry of their own free will. This is the way of the world, adults have to fend for themselves. As long as they are over 18 and decide themselves to do porn, I can’t see anything wrong with it.

People should enter porn with their legs eyes open and the more formal contracts etc exist, the better.

There’s a huge difference between working as a secretary or post man and being a porn star. Sexual intimacy is a powerful thing which (whether you’re f**king or ‘making luurve’) does have some sort of psychological impact. If you’ve been sexually abused, working as a porn star will damage you mentally more so than a normal profession.

The fact is that the porn industry is highly lucrative. Stars know that that while they’re young, they can make more money in one day than they could in a month elsewhere. You also don’t need to be educated (I’m beginning to sound like an bloody advert). The point is that if you’re vulnerable (emotionally, financially or academically even), I can see that it can be attractive which isn’t a good thing for people who can’t handle it.

Being so lucrative also leads to women being forced to do something which they don’t want to do. We all know that women are taken from one country to the next on false pretences (in a similar way to prostitution) to be in porn films as they have no choice.

Most worryingly, the porn industry has a dark side.

If you’re balanced and you see porn for what it is, I personally think it’s harmless and can be a part of a healthy sexual relationship for BOTH women and men.

However, there are some depraved people out there (both producing the films and watching them) who will go to any lengths to feed a not-so-pleasant desire.

This is the part which I can imaging is spiralling out of control.

Essentially, what I said was that porn has always and will always exist, there will always be a market for it. So why not regulate it and make sure conditions are better than they often are now?

In terms of women going into the sex trade because they had been sexually abused, sorry to sound insensitive, but so what? People always make career choices based on their experiences. Porn is not unique as an unusual and sometimes unpleasant industry to go into simply because you’ve had a difficult life. We can’t prevent people from doing something based on our opinion of whether they are ‘balanced’ or not.

Likewise, men who watch porn and think that all women like it in the face are idiots.

Amir I’m sure most people prefer having sex to watching it. But apart from those men who get porn creep (hooked on it), it doens’t become a substitute for sex, simply an adjunct. Men with a sexual partner have a joust just like men without a partner do; it satisfies different things for different people.

What you seem to be referring to Amir is someone whose taken it too far – neglecting your social life and staying in on Friday night with a box of Kleenex and Naughty Nurses is lame (unless they’re real nurses…hmm) and the kind of people who do that would probably always find something to isolate themselves from social interaction. I think it’s completely wrong to say that men only like ‘fucking’, that’s a wild generalisation.

Finally, despite agreeing to talk about this – and as I said I don’t say anything I don’t believe – I really don’t care for porn, personally. But yet I’m in favour of it.
