What’s really depressing about Ann Winterton is that many people will think “Good on you, girl.”

And there will be plenty of closet racists who think that Ann Winterton’s tired crack about dead Chinese is “just a bit of a laugh, innit?” Millions of them.

Ha ha, don’t worry, people, the Wintertons are just types who “talk about e-mails”. Only their thoughts in after-dinner speeches may be taken into account (they are sitting MPs, so this is of course only fair). In fact, they are innocent victims of the “thought police”, and, in any case, they “did not log it up”. Oh, and by the way, some people have no manners.

We can’t deny her views are not representative of some sections and the obvious problems is that by talking about her it gives her a platform she has done nothing in her career to deserve.

Lady Winterton and her husband are members of a number of theall-party country clubs such as friends of Finland, and it is in these she made her previous speeches. Losing a Shadow Ministerial post because of a ‘ten-a-penny Pakis’ gag and with her Whip drawn for laughing at dead foreigners, you’d have thought she learnt her lesson. Although her dinner invitations have dried up, she subsequently got a post as columnist in Congleton Guardian, a local weekly newspaper.

She must be wondering how many painfully bad racist jokes you’d need to make before you’re finally get thrown out of the Conservative party and given her own TV show ?
