Hey, no offence taken... I have a pretty thick skin when it comes to insults on the web. Jay I don' think there was a need to come down on the brother so hard.

Anyway, it's a bloody politics blog. Let's try and stick to politics talk during the week and weather/football/plagiarism/chocolate fountains on the weekend. End of story.

Ravi - got your email mate, cheers. Kesara has actually written something on the SL situation and I'll try and edit it and post it up tonight/tomorrow if I can.

Raz,
I had a bad day. I have to put food on my table. And money doesn’t grow on trees. Not everyone has a rich family or even a family at all. Not everyone lives in the ‘right’ area or knows the ‘right’ people or comes from the ‘right’ background. Internet and politics is just escapism for me. I don’t give a shit about the policies of Tony Blair or the politics of multiculturalism if I can’t pay the rent or have at least one meal a day. I read [copiously] to relax and to meditate. And I share it with people on a blog. Nuff said. I fool about and act like a twat when I’m stressed out or 'deep financial trouble'. Don't take it personally (although I don't blame you, if you do.)

And anyway, who says that acting like a ‘twat’ isn’t a sign of affection? For some guys (and, yes, it’s a curse), they act real stupid in front of people whom they find attractive or admirable in some special way. I never ever, for instance, say anything complimentary to a cute girl,... the opposite is usually the case. And I hate it. Don’t ask me why? It just happens.

But on a computer screen, of course, it looks different. People superimpose their own ‘tone of voice’ and their own schemas onto the voices of other bloggers and contributors. Txt messages and emails have the same pitfall. If Jacques Derrida were alive, he’d agree.

I’m just, well, misunderstood. And yes Rohin, I was/am acting like a dick. No doubt about it. But listen, you and your ilk in London have it easy – don’t forget that. It always makes me laugh when some Asians refer to themselves as ‘progressive’ or ‘left-wing’. In reality, only people with enough dough in the bank and enough clothes in their trunk can ‘afford’ to be progressive (Kant said exactly the same thing in his day). Not everyone gets the opportunity to pursue their own interests in life. And the idea that we live in a ‘meritocracy’ is just, well, bullshit.

Anyways, good luck with the PP blog. Just bear in mind… the real ‘progressives’ don’t live in ivory towers. For your own sakes: always be open to criticism and always be open to openness itself. And stop this Pickled Politics ‘gang mentality’ when a contributor doesn't tug the party line. It’s fucking pathetic. Yeah, and dat includes you, too, Jay Singh.

Mr. Singh. If you knew how hard I worked (just to keep myself afloat) and knowing - in the process - that there's no light at the end of the tunnel, you'd have a bit more fucking respect.

I'm going back to work 2morrorow (I've been physically incapable for the last two weeks or so). 13-hour shift: no blogging. Just dreaming. But I'll make it...

eventually :-)

Au revoir

Amir, no need to run off. But you just started being a bit of a dick, to put it succinctly. We've all praised some of the things you've said on here, but it's just when you try your hand at humour it all comes unstuck. Some people are just not funny. I haven't taken any offence and your line about Sakshi wasn't nice because you don't know her. The things you've been saying to her, me, whoever are the kinds of things you say to friends, not random acquaintances.

Ravi I've been trying to keep tabs on what's happening in SL, but as you've probably gathered I'm a bit busy w/ exams. Hence we'll repeat the call we made a few weeks back for those in the know to submit a piece because I don't want to rush it and do a ham-fisted job. However Prince Naseem doesn't really seem like much of a story. Some fat git drives like a plonker and gets locked up!

El Cid, many sincere apologies for the bastards line! My bad. It's just the behaviour Vikrant was exhibiting boils my blood so I was using emotive language! btw, I was reading all about El Cid this weekend, after I read a piece comparing him to Wayne Rooney. Haw haw haw!

(I'm still laughing at Jay's "you think you're 'dangerous'" Great choice of words. And the inverted commas only make it funnier. You've redeemed yourself for the X-Men lapse, SON.)

Whoa, things seem to have got a bit heated here. Amir really went a bit too far with his banter there, but doesn’t look like he meant any harm. Hope he keeps contributing.

Sunny, Rohin – are you guys on the new look PP going to do a story about Sri Lanka anytime soon? The situation there seems to be going from bad to worse (news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/4768329.stm). And there’s a discussion to be had about whether Sri Lankan origin Tamil people living here (& in Canada, Australia) can make a more effective contribution to resolving the situation. I was going to go on at great length about this, but I’m guessing it’s all too much (and far too late) for a weekend open thread. I hope there's interest in talking about it.

By the way, did I spot some of the PP pages displaying a picture of Prince Naseem? What a sad story his turned out to be. (Even if he was a bit irritating in his heyday.)

Amir - you need to just calm down. You make good contributions when you talk sensibly but the thing about Shaskhi was out of order. And you get carried away. Just cool it and be sensible and nobody will mind you being around and I'm sure you'll make more of your good contributions.

Jay
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cause any offence. I was only having a bit of fun… sorry if it went over the top.

I’m not a bad guy

And I’m not trying to be ‘provocative’ or ‘witty’ or ‘whatever’. It’s just dumb-ass humour… I like it when people give the abuse back (but not ‘real’ abuse obviously)
Whoa, sorry.

Rohin – I don’t have anything against people from public schools.
Sunny – big fan. My piss-taking is a sign of affection. Sorry.
Sakshi – you’re really *hot*. I live with so many Indian guys - we have a funny, supremacist attitude to each other!

But anyway…good look with the blog and everything.
Peace. Xxx

Amir you think you're really outrageous and cutting edge with your lines - I suppose you reckon you are 'provocative' and 'dangerous' - but the truth is yo're just obnoxious and a bit of a twat. As well as pompous and witless - you commit the worst, foulest and most unforgivable sin of not being funny, and compound it all by seeming to think you are - and that's just embarassing. I'm embarassed for you.

Rohin, you naughty boy! There's stuff here that Rakhee wouldn't even do for me... and that's saying quite a bit.

I'm not sure I can; there are testosterone-heavy and confused teenagers present who might get a little too excited. It's a rather yucky and very rugger bugger activity, as its alias 'soggy biscuit' suggests. Maybe a Google search might tell you all you need to know.

And since when did you have to target mass populations to be a terrorist?

Some activists just go too far... My mate's dad's a geneticist, working with GM foods and all that playing with God malarkey.

He had a car bomb put in his car just for his line of work. :|

If that's not terrorism, I dunno what is... Groups like PETA are pretty much in the same page.
