It basically normal flu symptoms, in this case a mild fever and chills, tight chest, raw throat, dry cough, aching muscles and swimmy vision. Not all the time, comes in waves. My GP diagnosed it over the phone, they have given up on testing and containment but it is the only flu around at the moment so I’ve been told to take Tamiflu, treat it as a normal flu and avoid people for five days. Don’t go to the surgery; phone in symptoms and get someone to pick up the scrip.

It’s not that bad, lemsip and honey (shot of scotch optional) eases the symptoms and if there are no underlying health problems then it’s just an inconvenience. Should be fit for work Tuesday.

But you raise a serious issue relevant to ethnic minorities. I have spent several hours researching vitamin D and sunlight and am therefore a renowned expert in the field, but I will share. I’ve written a few posts on my blog at http://www.rizdin.com/search?q=vitamin+D , If you can’t be bothered to click the gist is that the standard recommendation of 10 minutes sun exposure is for light skinned folk. We need more, a lot more. For asian women who favour full coverage clothing, it’s even worse because very little skin is exposed.

I’m going to the doctors on Monday to find out more about and maybe get a blood test, but from what I’ve learned, almost all asians have inadequate vitamin D levels, and there are a host of ailments that can result from this deficiency, from weak bones (calcium on its own isn’t enough!) to neural problems.

If it’s sunny, do as Sunny says and git some of those rays. And you know those mid-day hours that are only good for mad dogs and englishmen? You’ll only get enough vitamin D if you go out during this time, without sun block.
