Well, as a Briton, I decide Lewington isn’t a Briton so he doesn’t get the right to decide.

It is a matter for governments, in fact. Who is or is not a citizen of a country is a matter of law. Citizens have certain rights and governments have certain powers of citizens.

I covered this back in November last year.

I’d still like to know what our putative Waffen SS member and white supremacist was doing travelling to Lowestoft with his devices. Suffolk’s not exactly awash with ethnic minorities – at least not the sort a ‘white supremacist’ is supposed to hate.

Sunny, what’s all this “another white terrorist” stuff ? You’d have conniptions if the papers shouted “another Asian terrorist” every time a jihadi wannabe got banged up. I’m always telling my commenters, when some currently-a-minority has committed a ghastly crime, that it’s the criminal bit that’s important, that X is “murdering scum”, not “(insert skin colour here) murdering scum”.

The “pathetic weirdo” aspects do seem to be quite characteristic of this sort, but that doesn’t make them less dangerous. Getting a crude bomb to work isn’t rocket science.

The people in most danger were probably himself and his unfortunate family. Although being shite at terrorism is no excuse for engaging in it.

So I’d probably agree with Roger, that the story may have been muted because there was no need to give a “pathetic weirdo” publicity when there was no wider conspiracy.

I mean, this was a guy who wanted to be part of Combat 18 but who couldn’t work out how. Somebody from mental health services should have been on his case, but they are over-stretched.

I don’t know, obviously, but I think that editors may be so worried about others being inspired to follow his example, just as Lewington is said to have been by David Copeland, that- consciously or not- they play such cases down and emphasise the “pathetic weirdo” aspects.

What was he doing with bomb parts in Lowestoft anyway?
