A Catastrophe Free Open Thread

Hello All,
Apologies for my absence. To summarise my excuses involves a broken mouse and guerrilla gardening. Oh I thought I was cock of the walk with my wireless mouse but I wasn’t I was a fool. Honestly I might as well have traded a cow for some magic beans for all the good the bloody thing did me. I’m on a Tesco Value mouse this evening let’s pray it lasts

I like a theme for an open thread but I must admit I’m struggling this evening. I have a mind full of stagestruck jesters and feathers these days. To that end I have decided to rummage in the tin of time honoured themes for stuff and have as luck would have it pulled out the seven deadly; sins lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride. All the lads are there!

However this week I’d like a bit of lust, I suspect last weekends outbreak of passion in the Clairwil household may be to blame. Still our friend comedy will not leave the room so to keep him happy I’d like tales of lust fuelled catastrophes, sex related urban myths and an amusing celebration of spending adulthood chained to a lunatic.

Don’t be shy, confess your sins and shame the devil.

Failing that let’s have your plans for the weekend but keep your mad politics off my thread or I’ll bite you.

Toodles

I hate wireless mice! And wireless keyboards!

  2. tanvir — on 9th May, 2009 at 8:09 am

Quite a pun! bearing in mind 8th of may is Nakba Day

Both my mouse and keyboard are wireless, and despite a very sticky esc key, I love them both!

    ——————————————-

’cause I was bored I went back to playing Oblivion again. You get the chance to name your character early doors. So, just for a laugh, I called the uber male character I was playing Sunny. However, when you get to the sewer exit you can change all of your characters – we call them avatars apparently – characteristics. Which I did. Except you can’t change the name.

So ‘Sunny’, the avatar that is, is now an exceptionally gorgeous female. I am really not at all comfortable about that ;-)

Still, she has already earned 10 ‘fame’ points and no infamy.

Auntie Clairwil, do you think I am mad?

  4. Vikrant — on 9th May, 2009 at 9:19 am

Its the finals week here… plus half my ROTC batallion, is graduating, and quite a few lads are headed for Iraq so been getting pissed at quite a few farewell parties over last week. So here i am half-drunk at 4am on a Saturday morning, cramming in stuff about computer architecture for a Monday final :( … Wish me luck fellas!

  5. halima — on 9th May, 2009 at 10:20 am

I am watching Wolvering this weekend .. Hugh Jackson brings out something in me – so much that I endured the whole of that awful movie Australia just coz he was in it.

  6. douglas clark — on 9th May, 2009 at 11:09 am

    Vikrant,

Best of luck, with the exams, I mean.

    _____________

    halima,

Are you sure you want to tell the whole world?

    Me?

I saw Penelope Cruz in ‘Volver’ and there ain’t likely to be a better looking woman on this entire planet!

  7. douglas clark — on 9th May, 2009 at 11:48 am

Well, Auntie Clairwil, I take it your silence means that your mouse is, yet again, fucked?

  8. halima — on 9th May, 2009 at 11:58 am

    Hi Douglas Clark

I don’t know which movie it was i saw Cruz when she first became famous – she really is very beautiful.

  9. douglas clark — on 9th May, 2009 at 12:44 pm

    halima,

    Hi!

Your choice in guys, Hugh Jackson, says it all about you! As does me and Penelope… and you are right, she really is beautiful.

Anyway, is this not a thread about Clairwils bust mouse?

Or my embarrassment about playing an avatar that probably doesn’t do anyone justice? Far less Sunny.

And certainly it seems to see me that you are allowing me, to be, a dreadful philanderer?

Chance would be a fine thing.

But, it is, on the whole, quite fun, dontcha think?

  10. Zak — on 9th May, 2009 at 12:51 pm

i been star trekking..i take it no comment about the half a million displaced internal refugees in pakistan

  11. halima — on 9th May, 2009 at 12:58 pm

    Douglas

“Don’t be shy, confess your sins and shame the devil.”

Is the theme? No? I think if you’re talking about the sins, you’re not out doing it…

I could also talk about the domesic goddess in me, let’s see, tried to put the washing machine on, but couldn’t, had to call the man downstairs and lie and say it’s coz I can’t read Chinese intructions, but it’s really coz I can’t put a washing machine on!

I also took part in a great British institution yesterday evening in Beijing, the pub quiz, and my team came second to last, and it was the hardest quiz i ever did – for infamous wives they picked wives from 500 years ago!

  12. douglas clark — on 9th May, 2009 at 1:00 pm

    Zak,

That is political and not allowed hereabouts. This is about letting yourself go.

I’d have thought the rules of the thread were clear…

  13. douglas clark — on 9th May, 2009 at 1:08 pm

    Zak,

For instance, do you fancy any of the woman that write here? Or are you so up your arse that that is a disgusting question?

    Me?

I like all of them. And, were I not so bloody ancient, I’d be fancying most of them. Not attempting to piss them off.

    So there!

  14. douglas clark — on 9th May, 2009 at 1:28 pm

    halima,

I think if you’re talking about the sins, you’re not out doing it…

I’d admit that, were I younger, and Sonia was not married, then, yes, I would ask her to marry me.

    Is that a sin?

    Probably her husband thinks so!

Would she have me? If she had the least sense, then probably not.

For she and me have never really disagreed on the fundamentals.

Is that enough of a confession?

  15. Sunny — on 9th May, 2009 at 1:28 pm

i’m sitting at home and working this weekend! woohoo!

  16. BenSix — on 9th May, 2009 at 1:34 pm

“Don’t be shy, confess your sins and shame the devil.”

There we were: me and Satan. It was a sultry August evening, and the lights were dancing off…

    Actually, must dash.

  17. halima — on 9th May, 2009 at 1:35 pm

    “Is that a sin?”

her hubby probably is secure enough to handle compliments to his wife.

“is that enough of a confession?”

No, Douglas, I think you are quite unawares that everyone in PP knows that you have a certain .. shall I call it, respect for the lady in question …

  18. douglas clark — on 9th May, 2009 at 1:55 pm

    Halima,

No, Douglas, I think you are quite unawares that everyone in PP knows that you have a certain .. shall I call it, respect for the lady in question …

Point. There is nothing better than finding someone that seems to agree with you, most of the time. Should I pretend that I hate that person?

But that is why I have that degree of respect. I like to think it is mutual and not subject to you being cheapskate about it.

It is pretty obvious that Sonia and I agree, most of the time.

We will never end up married, but my respect for:

    the lady in question

    will never diminish.

  19. halima — on 9th May, 2009 at 2:05 pm

    “will never diminish.”

Douglas .. In my humble opinion, the most romantic love, is that which is unrequited.

  20. Rumbold — on 9th May, 2009 at 2:14 pm

You are wonderful Douglas. We all deserve Pickled ladies.

  21. Amrit — on 9th May, 2009 at 2:15 pm

Anyone else angling for a Pickled partner? ;-)

I have to say, the Picklers seem to be an alarmingly photogenic bunch.

  22. douglas clark — on 9th May, 2009 at 2:31 pm

    halima,

In my humble opinion, the most romantic love, is that which is unrequited.

    Probably, kid.

  23. douglas clark — on 9th May, 2009 at 2:48 pm

    Amrit,

Given that I can’t ask Sonia, subject to her being married and suchlike, and not actually liking a tit like me, which is extremely likely, and the desperate fact that she is bloody well married to some chap, who else would you suggest?

Your advice, from a desperate man would be appreciated.

  24. Amrit — on 9th May, 2009 at 3:03 pm

Well douglas, I’m afraid that all of the ladies that I’ve met (writers and commenters) appear to be involved or married.

I haven’t met them all though, so I guess, keep an eye out?

Alternatively, you could pursue the confusion brought on by ‘Sunny’, haha. It is a strange quirk that a good few of the men were unattached, whilst most of the ladies (all 4 of us!) were involved.

I think, judging by the deep respect that Sonia has for you, you need not feel too bad. I hope we’ll be seeing you before too long at a meet-up…

  25. Jai — on 9th May, 2009 at 3:04 pm

I have to say, the Picklers seem to be an alarmingly photogenic bunch.

Speaking of physical appearances, who else here has noticed that Sunny looks just like a bald version of hero-turned-villain-turned-hero-turned-villain Tony Almeida from 24 ?

  26. douglas clark — on 9th May, 2009 at 5:25 pm

    Amtit @ 24,

Alternatively, you could pursue the confusion brought on by ‘Sunny’, haha. It is a strange quirk that a good few of the men were unattached, whilst most of the ladies (all 4 of us!) were involved.

Thanks. I do not want to pursue that confusion, ré my avatar, much further. Until Auntie Clairwil tells me what is wrong with me, at least.

    Mad and bad, probably.

I am sure Jai is right when he says most Picklers are good looking. I recall looking at Sunny’s friends on You Tube or summat and going ‘how lucky he is to have chums like that”

There was more than a little lust thereabouts.

I am sticking to Clairwils theme here. I’d probably lust after you, now I know you have a girly name. I have been under the long term misapprehension that you were a bloke. Perhaps Amrit is a well known girls name in SE Asian circles, but I didn’t twig it. So there you go.

This is a joke, of course.

If I could afford it, I’d love to meet you all.

For, generally speaking, you are all quite nice.

Except me, obviously. I’d probably climb around the upper levels of Notre Dame Cathedral, ha, ha!

The Hunch Back of Notre Dame

  27. Sunny — on 9th May, 2009 at 7:46 pm

Jai I’ll take that as compliment, haha!

    Rumbold – Pickled Ladies?? hahaha!!!!

  28. Clairwil — on 9th May, 2009 at 7:58 pm

    Douglas,
I have no idea what this ‘oblivion’ is. As such you have my blessing to pose as an attractive woman for the purposes of the game.

The mouse is still fine but the wire annoys me. I love my wireless keyboard but that wireless mouse was an abomination!

  29. Vikrant — on 9th May, 2009 at 9:20 pm

You are wonderful Douglas. We all deserve Pickled ladies.

I seem to recall that Kismet Hardy and Katy Newton “married” each other on one of these sunday threads 2-3 years :) !!! Good times… haha…

P.S Quantum physics makes a lot more sense with a little bit of grass ;) .

  30. Vikrant — on 9th May, 2009 at 9:24 pm

Some refreshing news… A Hindu priest solemnises a Gay couple :)

The Hunch Back of Notre Dame?

Notre Dame your eyes. I claim ugliest bastard on this site. And I’ve seen Faisal’s pic, so back off.

  32. BenSix — on 9th May, 2009 at 9:41 pm

“I claim ugliest bastard on this site.”

Stand aside, Don. In the mirror-shattering category I reign supreme.

  33. Amrit — on 9th May, 2009 at 11:06 pm

    douglas:

I have been under the long term misapprehension that you were a bloke. Perhaps Amrit is a well known girls name in SE Asian circles, but I didn’t twig it.

Amrit is a gender-neutral Sikh name, but from personal experience, a lot of males seem to have it as a nickname (shortening of Amritpal). It can be, and is, used by both genders, though.

Why did you think I was a bloke? I seem to get this a lot online, not sure why.

LMAO @ Don & Ben. How very Pickled. I can’t imagine somewhere like Cif having an ‘ugliest bastard’ contest. Though I don’t think douglas meant it in that sense.

douglas, I think we could well do with someone like you at the meet-ups! It’s so goddamn GROWN-UP, I sometimes hate it. My worst instincts begin to emerge. :-D

Sod ‘marrying,’ I want a harem. I’ll take Sunny, Sonia, Ala, Rumbold… and anyone else who wants to come. :-D
