East London Gurdwara burnt – updates?

by Sunny

A Facebook group about an East London Gurdwara being burnt down has accumulated about 20,000 people in 10 days. There was a story in the Evening Standard on the 17th.

Does anyone know if it actually was the result of a racist attack? Any updates on the arrests? Apparently the Indian SGPC is trying to take it up with the Indian Prime Minister (huh? What for?). Haven’t heard anything about this since.

I haven’t heard anything further about this either although according to numerous reports at the time, apparently the people present in the gurdwara identified the arsonist as being of Middle-Eastern or black appearance.

I heard black originally. It was on Barfi, the website sunny abandoned…lol

Nice building for a Gudwara, we got a massive on in Derby though, looks better than this one too. Typically though they used most of the land with the building and flopped with the parking, it has very limited parking. You can tell when there is a sikh even going on around our ends, usually empty streets are full of Vauxhalls.

Some of the comments on the facebook group are extraordinary. Oh but wait its only Muslims who have extremists:

“this is the work of some ignorant pricks, my instinct tells me it was either DIRTY PAKIS, OR SOME OTHER AFRO/CARRIBEAN/AFRICAN PEOPLE!”

“Find out who did this evil thing, and burn ‘em alive.”

“This is y i fukin hate london, too many racist mutherfukers, this country would turn me into a cold blooded murderer if i was to ever live their no, fukin doubt. Fuckin kill those bastards who did that, no respect for religion at all. ”

“fucken kill the people who burned the gudwara ”

“it was a blk or halfcaste guy who done this, fucking black bastard should get stabbed, infact all of them!!”

“THE GUY HOW DID THIS SHOULD BE BURNT JUST THE WAY THEY BURNT THE GURDWARA STAB HIM ”

“ho eva dis bastard iz gona die.

if da person was black, white, indian, samalian, paki or wateva da fuk he iz be very carfull cus wen we find u ur gona get buried alive. daft bastard

the turnout of the sanscar was gud, peps from all ova came to show der respect, alot of sikhs need to make sum more tym towards der religon…”

“The person who did this does not know what sikh’s are all about…brave man, cause if get cught the police will be the least of your problems. WHEN WILL PEOPLE LEAERN NEVER FUCK WITH A SIKH!! ASK THE BRITISH WHEN WE KICKED THEM OUT OF INDIA, OH ALSO ASK THE MOUGALS WHAT WE DID TO THEM WHEN THEY TRIED TO CONVERT US!! RAJ KER GA KALSHA…………….”

    Platinum786,

Nice building for a Gudwara, we got a massive on in Derby though, looks better than this one too.

There’s an absolutely huge one which was built in Southall just a couple of years ago and which is really nice, both internally and externally. A smaller gurdwara on one of the main roads in Ilford is quite beautiful too — the exterior was actually designed to reflect traditional Sikh-Rajput-Mughal architecture from that particular historical period (you can’t miss it).

Another really large and famous gurdwara was built a few years ago in Birmingham; I haven’t been there myself but from the various photos and shots on TV I’ve seen it looks great (very imposing too). Obviously it’s much closer to your neck of the woods than mine.

You can tell when there is a sikh even going on around our ends, usually empty streets are full of Vauxhalls.

Heh. Down here in the south it’s usually Beemers and Mercs (which is another way you can easily spot when a Sikh wedding is going on).

Been talking to a few local Sikhs and it is clear that the women who were praying at the time have described a man who was either African or very dark African Caribbean. This is also the description inthe local paper although that came from the same source.

The Friends of Blair Peach are now discussing the vigil for the thirtieth anniversary of his killing as being midday on the 25th of April which was about when he was found in Southall but I will get back to you on this.

    @munir:
    What facebook page?

  7. platinum786 — on 26th March, 2009 at 3:57 pm

Jai, I’ve noticed the ones with the Beemers and Mercs tend to get there earlier.. hence park int he carpark/nearer the Gudwara. It’s all the late lot that end up parking around my end. Weddings are different, you can tell weddings as there will be coaches around, and the indian community centre is next door so people park there too.

Munir, nothing new on the facebook group then. Can’t really make much of it, you’d get the same rudeboy comments if a mosque was burnt, or a church…. does anyone know any jewish rudeboys?

Riiiight .. so pointing out extremism is stirring up trouble. Does that mean PP stirs up trouble when it talks about Muslim extremism? Give us a break.

Mosques get attacked so often in this country that setting up a facebook every time one was would be a fulltime job.

Except those extreme comments by Muslims would be sprayed all over national newspapers and people of other faiths and none would come and tut tut about Muslim extremism and how the “comuunity” must condemn them.

Is it great to be treated differently?

  13. ambi — on 29th March, 2009 at 3:23 am

munir, if facebook, youtube, and any other internet effluence spouted by bigoted muslims in the UK was cut and pasted on threads all over the place we would be drowned. i suspect you are a horrible racist bigot yourself.

  14. Rumbold — on 29th March, 2009 at 10:03 am

    Munir:

On this site we complain when the media give undue prominence to a group of Muslim non-entities who only get publicity because it fits into the ‘Muslims=extremists’ narratives. I see no reason to treat any other religion differently.
