"the rally was against the declining situation in Iraq and the destruction of holy shrines by terrorists"

Good to see that moderate Muslims are finally coming out against violence comitted by Muslims directed against Muslim people and Muslim inanimate objects.

Gina

Fifty two people died and hundreds injured in London as a result of Muslim violence against the British state. Similarly, Muslim violence was responsible for 9/11 and the Madrid train bombings. Muslim violence was responsible for the Bali bombs and the recent attacks on Nordic diplomatic missions and Aid workers in the Middle East. This is fact. Media reporting of such events is NOT a demonising of Muslims but a warning of the dangers ordinary, decent European and American citizens face from Muslim extremists.

YES, it is good to see 'moderate' Muslims protest against violence and most media did 'note' the event. It is interesting that the majority of protesters seemed more interested in the inter-ethnic violence in Iraq than in Muslim violence against the West.

However, there is still much to debate if one considers a recent 'Telegraph' (19/02/06) poll which showed 40% of 'moderate' Muslims would like to see Sharia law in areas of Britain which are predominately Muslim.

Acquiescence to these wishes would entail theocratic rule in large districts of (specifically) England. This aspiration underlines a general Muslim refusal to be subject to the laws and civic duties of a state which offers them democratic freedoms and economic advantage. It ignores both the philosophical and political systems which underpin democracy.

Further there is ongoing insistence that the Burka be allowed for British school children of the Muslim faith, not just in Muslim majority areas, but everywhere. I would suggest the Burka is a garment which emphasises 'difference' among children but worse, raises very big security issues.

Recently, in London, I found myself rudely 'bussled' to one side by three physically substantial (fat), Burkha-clad persons in a department store. I presume they were women but they might equally have been men.

I wonder how security can be maintained on trains, planes, buses etc if this garment is adopted by a majority of Muslim women? It is, of course, the perfect disguise for any suicide bomber. It is how John Simpson disguised himself in order to enter Kabul.

The media does have a case to answer, but it has nothing to do with 'demonising' Muslims. I cannot recall a more pernicious inversion of truth than what we are witnessing now in the British media's attitude to Israel's defence of its citizens against religiously-driven murderers. In the quality press, we hear of Zionist 'ethnic cleansing' - but never any comparison with the stated aims of Hamas which is to wipe out the state of Israel. it is Hamas which openly espouses ethnic cleansing - not Israel. We hear the perverted lie again and again that the Palestinians are fighting for their own state. The truth is, that they could by now have a peaceful and prosperous state alongside Israel, had not successive corrupt Palestinian Authorities preferred to keep their people in poverty and ignorance as cannon-fodder for Islamic fundamentalist aspirations. I am neither Israeli nor Jewish, just a questioning western mind which prefers proven fact as opposed to sentimental propaganda.

Lmao! Martin Sullivan at Islamophobia Watch reckons I'm "<a href="http://www.islamophobia-watch.com/islamophobia-watch/2006/2/27/unity-march-in-london.html">having a go at the MCB</a>" by using the words "press-release happy".

I find that hilarious. Poor Martin's run out of people to cuss.

You make a good point about the danger of demonisation and scapegoating in any society but to be honest, when you say:

<i>let’s face it - it’s easier to show muslims terrorising and attacking western authorities because they have already been demonised</i>

It's a little ostrich like, considering that there are elements within the Muslim community, albeit small in number, who actually do want to kill people on a massive scale, and there are some other things too, you know. It's not just a big conspiracy by the media or 'The Man'.

why would it be publicised...it was showing muslims actually protesting AGAINST terrorism...surely that won't sell papers or make for 'interesting' news. let's face it - it's easier to show muslims terrorising and attacking western authorities because they have already been demonised...they want to demonise them some more - make muslims the next 'problem' for a country that cannot go a day without blaming one minority group or another. that way, they can bury their heads in the sand for a few days longer to hide from the real social issues. Knobs....ggrrr.

Exactly, thats really unacceptable.

Where is religion being used for such Indispicable purposes.
Firstly, offensive cartoons of relgious figures and now this what on earth is the world coming to.
I don't feel that protesting is going to alleviate much as whats done is done, that can't be erased.

[...] From London with Love? Another? There was another rally in central London yesterday, this one against terrorism and extremism. Going on the pictures by resident photographer Kesara, the rally was against the declining situation in Iraq and the destruction of holy shrines by terrorists. It had a wierd feel to it too (nothing hostile mind you). For one thing it was about the bombing of the shrine in Iraq and there were plenty of Iraqi flags flying. In fact I didn’t see too many anti-cartoon placards - ’twas all pictures of the Golden Mosque. … There was a lot of “Down with Bin Laden” “No to Terrorism” chanting going on …although it was primarily concerning terrorism in Iraq, there were no references towards the London bombings really. Loads of anti Wahabi sentiment. Peaceful…but still…slightly ‘odd’ and I cant explain it. [...]

>>Sir Trevor Phillips is showing his hypocrisy, because I’m sure he doesnt like to be called the ‘N-word’, even though some may consider such an action “central to Britishness”. >>

Yeah. Typical jamalian response to a man who has set out his views calmly.
"How'd you like to be called a nigger, Mr Phillips you hypocrite?"
And a nasty imputation that deep redneck racism is a british trait.

Another killer argument. Keep digging.

Ok the BBC estimates 2000 though Im pretty sure it was WAY more than that.
When I got there around 12.30 there were only about 100-200 demonstators. But as the march started folks just kept popping up from allover!
At one point the line stretched from Picadilly Cirus right down Haymarket with the procession head at Trafalgar Square.

Mike,

If you type into a word document, you can spell check, then cut and paste.

Unless the semi-literate style is an affectation, which the moslim/muslom/mooselim variations would suggest. In which case it is just irritating.
