    The march this Saturday

by Sunny on 8th January, 2009 at 3:34 PM

The March this Saturday is going from Hyde Park to the Israeli embassy. This is not ideal because frankly I don’t want to be standing next to idiots and rudeboys trying to try anything stupid there. But I have to protest so this is the only choice I have.

I’m planning to be there for 12:30 so I can march for a bit and then go home once we reach the embassy. I have no intention of hanging around there much. Remember, I plan to carry an anti-Hamas and anti-IDF placard, calling for a Free Palestine. Who wants to come with me?

Update: A friend has asked if anyone wants to volunteer to be a steward – apparently they’re in desperate short supply for the numbers expected this week. Turn up at Hyde Park corner at 10:15am and dress warm. Contact 020 7278 6694 for more details.

I’ll be there, you want to meet somewhere near Hyde Park corner instead?

My prediction is that a significant group of chavlims come armed.

I do hope the Met is in a foul mood that day……

      Peaceful protest – yes
Chavlim jihadiwannabees – most definately not.

The problem is the police often choose not to tell the difference and use one as an excuse to brutalise the other…

Ahh, you’ve met the Met then. I know, this is a serious problem and a long running one and we shouldn’t trivialise at a time like this.

Plenty of times, I know exactly how they do things.

    6. Sunny — on 8th January, 2009 at 5:00 PM

yeah let’s meet at hyde park corner.

    7. Leon — on 8th January, 2009 at 5:01 PM

      Cool, 12.30 or bit earlier?

    8. Jamie Sport — on 8th January, 2009 at 5:35 PM

      I’m planning on going too.

Very interested in seeing how the subsequent coverage of the day compares with the reality, especially having read your post on how poorly the papers reflected the actual events of last Saturday’s protests Sunny.

So you don’t recommend following the crowd to the embassy?

    9. Sunny — on 8th January, 2009 at 7:02 PM

hey Jamie, join us! I recommend going up to the israeli embassy but not really hanging around till long. It’s going to get ugly and I bet some unsavoury idiots are going to kick off later on. Nothing much can be done about that.

    10. Ms_Xtreme — on 8th January, 2009 at 7:22 PM

I reckon people will know there’s going to young ‘uns trying to cause a ruckus, I’m pretty sure even if they try to, the community will shut them down way quick.

Unless the London rallies have majority young people attending, then I dunno.

Something else to mull over while marching – best of luck and peace to all marchers

    12. Jamie Sport — on 8th January, 2009 at 10:33 PM

I’ll see you there Sunny et al – will be looking out for the anti-Hamas/IDF placards!

    13. Sunny — on 8th January, 2009 at 11:19 PM

BTW – anyone where to get placard material from?? i need some big posters? and some colouring pens? Hmm…

    14. Rayyan — on 8th January, 2009 at 11:22 PM

      Woolworths.

      Ooops…

    15. Leon — on 8th January, 2009 at 11:32 PM

I recommend going up to the israeli embassy but not really hanging around till long.

My experience is things tend to get worse when it’s dark, when the majority of the marchers have gone and the police think they can get away with rushing people (on top of the usual idiot riotbwoys)…

      Well done ladies.

      - will be looking out for the anti-Hamas/IDF placards!

Why not anti-Hamas/anti Israeili State placards. IDF is only carring out orders.

      Leon/

Sorry for not getting back to you on the other thread about this Sat. Yeah, it’d be good to catch you and Sunny on the day, will you be grabbing a coffee afterwards? I’m just waiting to hear back from a group of friends about whether they are coming or not, so the meet-up point is Hyde Park at 12.30? Hopefully I’ll see you there, if not then perhaps I’ll catch you afterwards..

I agree Sunny, I’m really hoping to show for an hour or so and get out soon before the rude-boyz start acting like wannabe jihadis. I was next to the fountain in Traf Square when they started burning the Israeli flag last week and climbing polls at the embassy, it was totally stupid.

I do think these protests are keeping the spotlight on Gaza. I was pretty surprised to learn that Yahoo covered the medium-sized rally for Gaza I went to this evening in which speakers like Tariq Ali and Jeremy Corbyn spoke..

    19. dave bones — on 9th January, 2009 at 2:03 AM

Yeah man. I am coming to this one with Musa and some chicks. Hard to get everyone motivated and moving at the same time but it would be nice to go in a group as I don’t want either of us to get “singled out” by the Fotography Integilence Trouser squad for any argy bargy. Not that I think its going to happen at all. We are there as democratic right thats it.

You want the best placard? Have a few cans of beer and go out and nick a For sale sign. Everyone hates them anyway as they bung them everywhere

    20. dave bones — on 9th January, 2009 at 2:09 AM

      disclaimer:

I didn’t tell you that. that was a joke. I have never done that or incited anyone to do that ever ever.

    21. dave bones — on 9th January, 2009 at 2:14 AM

I didn’t tell you to either do a home made message or use your computer to blow up a picture the right size, in sections if necessary and afix it with that spray glue stuff either.

Oh and I don’t have a Blue Peter style heres one I prepared earlier for you to look at. Not me.

    22. Sunny — on 9th January, 2009 at 2:46 AM

nyrone, try and find me! do you have my number?

dave bones, same goes for you… try and find us… if you and musa are with us, we’ll get no trouble, lol.

    23. dave bones — on 9th January, 2009 at 6:09 AM

Yeah man. Its no trouble. I suppose its good being “infamous” really. It just disturbs me when the same four or five people in blue baseball caps and stab proof stuff come running up to me as if they have found some fucking prize turnip. Its like Police papparazi. Whos fucking idea was that? Well I suppose it was Barry’s originally which is the strangest of things seeing as I never spoke to him about that once and only found out when Finsbury was well over.

I know they can’t help it, but it is hard not to react which only gives them satisfaction. I feel like barking at them or something. I would certainly feel better if you were about and would be less likely to react.

      Yeah I heard about this.

    26. Vanessa — on 9th January, 2009 at 1:02 PM

      Hey Sunny
Thanks for putting the bit about the Stewarding up

Just noticed you got some questions about placards. We will be handing them out from about 11:30 onwards, but ther should still be loads left if you get there a bit later (you might not et a choice of what it says so ill try and keep a neutral one safe for sunny)

Or you can make your own. A3/A2 peice of card and a bit of wood from b&q. Then you can get some chucky marker pens and go all Blue peter

    27. chairwoman — on 9th January, 2009 at 1:21 PM

What do the non-neutral ones say?

On second thoughts it would be better if you didn’t say,

    28. Vanessa — on 9th January, 2009 at 1:37 PM

well as sunny was saying, different groups are going with different messages.
Most will be free palestine or ceasefire etc

but you will get some strong anti- israel or pro hamas etc oh and the od religious one

    29. Sid — on 9th January, 2009 at 3:11 PM

I will be there embedded within a bevy of intelligent, beautiful, socially concious, political but non-partisan, secular muslim women.

(you might not et a choice of what it says so ill try and keep a neutral one safe for sunny)

Or just bring some tacks and pin on your own slogans…;)

I guess everyone’ll have to keep an eye out for an Asian guy in a fur coat, holding a diamond-topped pimp-stick, pulling up in a pimped-up convertible Cadillac with the aforementioned bevy of women ;)

    32. Sid — on 9th January, 2009 at 3:50 PM

Dunno if that pimp analogy will be tolerated for even a second, Jai.

    33. Jai — on 9th January, 2009 at 4:00 PM

Too late, Sid. Everyone will be able to hear you a mile off because of Snoop or Jay-Z blaring from the tricked-out speakers, as you cruise in like Huggy Bear at the start of Snoop’s old “Gin ‘n Juice” video.

yeah well, when the going gets tough, the tough get pimped

so you are saying 12.30 at hyde park corner? That isn’t the same as speakers corner is it? that is the bottom end no? In the roundabout or just north of the tube entrance? I get mixed up between Hyde park cnr and speakers cnr as I don’t use the tube

    39. susie — on 10th January, 2009 at 8:44 AM

It’s Speakers Corner, at Marble Arch.
