The Guardian downsizes, becomes less stuffy

by Sunny on 12th September, 2005 at 1:12 pm

So, the Guardian has become smaller and more colourful today, the only British paper to be all colour and the only ‘Berliner’.

What do you think? Big development? Do you like the new look? Does it deserve its reputation as the bastion of liberalism in Britain?

Personally, I think it looks much better. The design is a bit like a website though. The size will be good as I bought the Indy sometimes purely because it was easier to carry and read on the trains. Looks like they’ve expanded the media supplement too. Yay!

More coverage of the new Berliner on their website.

If only that picture of Nigella was bigger… *drool*
The Berliner looks good, sold out almost everywhere I’ve tried to buy it so far. Grrr

Much improved, but could do with less Bunting and more muscular liberals.

I remain to be convinced…I’m loyal to the Indy! Yes Eric, less bunting. But I like the look, may have to steal some ideas…

Very cool. I never fully mastered the art of folding the pages of the broadsheets. Some people can do it, I can’t.

I wonder if the Saturday Guardian will shrink down too. Given all the supplements, this could make it thicker than the Yellow Pages!

Now for the publishers to solve the one remaining problem - I’m sure there are some skilled tactician’s who get away with unmarked hands after reading the paper, but for the majority we have hands as black as a coal miner’s after reading the paper.

the Evening Standard’s media comment last week, on the Guardian Berliner was apt - that the Guardian has almost become establishment, leaving the Independent to be radical - now who would have thought that 18 months ago…

Excellent for train rides into work. It will help preventing someones eye ball being poked out by my elbow

I don’t think much of it tbh, it’s far too thick and the ink runs like hell. Besides the Indy is a better paper these days than that Pro Labour Party liberal rag….
