    W

by Sid (Faisal) on 14th October, 2008 at 6:43 pm

Oliver Stone’s George Bush biopic W is released this Friday in the States, two weeks before the elections. And from all accounts, it is said to be a little patchy but brilliant in places. So typical Ollie Stone fare.

As for the trailer, it is probably up there as one of those trailers which could arguably be better than the movie. The use of ‘Once in a Lifetime’ by the Talking Heads is a stroke of genius.

W goes into general release here in the UK on November 7, three days after the elections.

    Enjoy.

Update: David T notes that the trailer’s backing track is “possibly one of the greatest songs ever written”. And of course, he’s right:

      Oh. My. God.

Once in a Lifetime – possibly one of the greatest songs ever written – is a genius choice.

      Great, great song.

Judged by the trailer alone, the film looks a bit stale: a compendium of Bushisms. Still, it’s unfair to judge a film by the trailer so I should just bloody well see it.

I agree, it’s a great song. First time I’ve heard it, and its seemingly universal magic has me no less captivated. I’m just trying to understand what it is that makes it so great, or is it just one of those things?

Talking Heads are great! Worth checking out U-Tube for Psycho Killer and Road to Nowhere too.

Talking Heads are an inspired choice and knowing Stone as we all do, it probably says a lot about what he thinks of Bush.

I heard the film was very average, and no doubt it will add glamour to a very unglamorous period in the White House.

Not sure if he meant it to be funny, but Johnathan Ross asked a question on his film review show last night that said it all:

‘Do you think this movie is going to humanise George Bush?’

He’s human already, albeit one that alienated his country from the rest of the world…

The W stands for Wanker, by the way

On the music tip, good on John cougar Mellencamp for telling that dude from die hard running against obama to stick it

All together now: ‘oh yeeeeah, life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone…

I am going to watch the movie after Obama wins this. In this case, I am rooting for a happy ending for this movie. :)

I read some reviews and actually the critics are saying the movie is quite good.

I forecast that W, the ex-president, will be very popular despite his sins.
