Fewer babies ‘white British’

Fewer than two-thirds of babies are registered ‘white British’ – says the Telegraph. Interesting stats in that article.

I’m more surprised that the comments accompanying the Daily Mail article were largely sane. Ahh… bless. Its not all doom and gloom when it comes to race relations folks!

Update: I like Jamie Sport’s parody on this.

I was surprised as well that the majority of comments on the Mail article were moderate and reasonable. It’s a shame the same can’t be said of the article itself, which was atrocious. Here’s my take on it: http://tinyurl.com/6o3xxt

“He said: “My worry has nothing to do with people’s skin colour but whether those people are integrating and accepting the customs and cultures of this country….

Many of the people included in the figures will be black British or black Asian through and through from the third and fourth generations who are setting an example of integration to other ethnicities.”

black Asians? And the guy says it is not about skin colour? And what about North Indians like Sunny? :) Are they black Asians too?

Is David Davies (note: not David Davis) the official right-wing unpleasant rent-a-quote MP?

Most amusing (both this and the parody).

It’s really rather a pleasant surprise when Mail readers turn out to have some semblance of reason and sanity. I quite liked this comment:

Those figures add up to 100% British.

@ Ravi: Haha, if Sunny is, then I am too, which is quite a strange thought.

See Rumbold, that’s why I ain’t got no time for the Telegraph.

I am no fan of the Daily Mail, but regardless of the impression you get from left wingers (who think all Daily Mail readers are all racist scum and would be shot in their liberal utopia) there are many sensible people who read it. Including many black, Asian and other minorities.

Yes it’s right wing, yes it’s largely against immigration, jingoistic, sometimes just plain loony, but that doesn’t mean the readers be fascist scum.

I think people get so entrenched in their particular political narrative that they become surprised when the subject of their ire doesn’t actually fit the bill of the characterture.

“What’s this?! I thought Daily Mail readers were supposed to call for a genocide against minorities! They just want them to talk English and respect the country?! It can’t be! They are all racists!”

Again, I’m no fan of the Mail. They do print a lot of sh*t.

Oh darn, they’ve sussed out our non-white plan to darkify the land, lads. Back to the drawing board.

If its a plan so cunning as to involve commiting carnal acts with loads of lovely sultry ladies then I think its a splendid idea. It would also cut down on suntan lotion bills considerably which can only be a good thing.

Suntan lotion? What is this of which you speak?

Also, that Lego Death Star? Win.

this is no doubt because it is fashionable to be exotic and no one wants to admit to being untanned. or people are self-defining differently. after all, everyone should really be ticking ‘mixed’ but they aren’t doing are they?
