  • PP visitor stats and cosmetic surgery

At the Picklers meetup yesterday various people asked about stats. So I’m publishing them here – taken from Google Analytics. They’re for the month of July ’08 and pretty self explanatory.

We’ve also had a slight cosmetic uplift as you can see. Rumbold wants to replace the ‘Elsewhere’ section (which I’ll start updating anyway) with a book reviews section. Any other ideas? Anything you’d like to see on PP?

Update: We are also 12 on the Wikio political blogs ranking.

We got video baby! Heh cool, although I think some of us might need a tutorial on how to post video to the vid box…

      Book reviews?

Yes please, but do they all have to be worthy/political?

    3. sarah — on 3rd August, 2008 at 12:50 pm

PP does look different. Better. And book reviews would be great. Elsewhere hasn’t been updated for ages!

I know you probably rely on the Google ads for revenue but they do look ugly. Maybe put them on a side bar to the left or right?

And how about more contributions from your Comrades and vice versa?

      Or poll options?

Can we embed videos in the comment section? That would be nice.

Also, what about diaries as in DailyKos?

    6. sarah — on 3rd August, 2008 at 4:29 pm

Oh- we need author pages like the ones on LC.

Hope your meeting went with a bang, as I said before I was scared, because am too dim and slow!
Book reviews will be nice. May be not restrict them to just Asian authors and politics, but an overview of good books?
Sometimes articles by others than those who regularly write on PP will be good too I think,(Ahem!)

Chairwoman good to see you, hope you are well now.

Nice facelift on the whole – it reflects your own changing manifesto!

Can I just suggest that y’all add this blog to your blogroll? I found it by chance. It’s maybe not that relevant to your current blitz on UK politics :P but I think it’s worthwhile nonetheless. I’ve added it to my blog’s links as well.

Leon – yeah, am trying to figure that out.

Ravi – Dailykos uses this difficult piece of software called Scoop. Its far too much work for me to figure out and install unfortunately. Why, are you interested in blogging on a sub-domain on PP?

chairwoman – erm… at least vaguely political? :)

Nav – they are, aren’t they?

      Sarah – thanks!

      Sabin – yup, that’s our plan. :)

Amrit – not sure adding them to the blogroll will have much impact really, most people don’t really go through blogrolls.

      cartoons!

    11. sarah — on 5th August, 2008 at 11:39 am

THANK YOU, SUNNY! I have just noticed that I am now one of your in-laws. I’m proud to be linked by PP!

I really dig the cosmetic makeover of the Pickled Politics banner. Nice!

“Video Heaven” is a great addition. How about including polls?

Or a little box with memorable quotes? Links to interesting papers/articles/tidbits you’ve read but would rather not write a post on?

    13. sarah — on 5th August, 2008 at 9:01 pm

We are 12th in Wikio and LC is 5th! Yay for Sunny!

    14. Amrit — on 9th August, 2008 at 1:18 am

Awww, well, it was worth a try.

Can I just ask, what makes your ‘in-laws’ different from your ‘comrades’? And how can I go about being one of your ‘comrades’ or ‘in-laws’? Do I have to fight you, or marry someone? ;-P

(Just kidding, the thought of my blog having a READERSHIP is so terrifying, I’m not even going to go there, and I’m not political enough anyway).

My stats would have dwarfed your measly total, but the refresh button failed after the first few thousand clicks.

      How was the meeting?

      Ben

    16. Amrit — on 10th August, 2008 at 12:55 am

      BenSix:

Is that question addressed to me?

    17. BenSix — on 10th August, 2008 at 1:22 am

      Amrit,

“Is that question addressed to me?”

Well, yes, it’s addressed to all and sundry (especially those that attended. Others wouldn’t have much to add).

The bitter stats comment was aimed at the entire entity of Pickled Politics.

Heh bring it in Mr BSix, bring it on…:D

    19. Amrit — on 10th August, 2008 at 1:57 am

      Ben:

Funnily enough, no-one seems to have said much about it other than me and Rumbold (which you’ve already seen), and I also posted about it on my blog (http://tinyurl.com/5g3opt). I suppose it was too short a meeting for some, since only four of us showed up on time, and spent quite a long and awkward while waiting.

I thought you were asking me because, of all the commenters on this particular thread, only Sunny and I went.

    20. BenSix — on 10th August, 2008 at 2:09 am

      Leon,

      Egad, a challenge.

      Amrit,

Thank you, a fine summary, although I’d have vehemently argued the merits of The Sopranos over those of – the very fine – The Wire.

      Ben

    21. Leon — on 10th August, 2008 at 2:42 am

      Amrit,

Read your post mortem, good read still regret that I couldn’t make it (you’re amongst a few others I’ve always wanted to meet), will ignore family requests that start with “Hey Leon can you give me a hand for an hour with…” in future! :D

      Ben,

Oh yes, and PP are a tough crew to beat trust me. ;)

    22. BenSix — on 10th August, 2008 at 2:59 am

“Oh yes, and PP are a tough crew to beat trust me.”

Well, I too have a host of supporters.

      *Scurries away*

    23. BenSeven — on 10th August, 2008 at 2:59 am

      I endorse that.

    24. BenEight — on 10th August, 2008 at 3:00 am

      As do I.

    25. Sunny — on 10th August, 2008 at 3:56 am

lol. I should have done some sort of a write up on this but I’ve been way too busy.

      Who came?

      me
      Shariq
      Rumbold
      Gege
      Sid
      his mate
      Nesrine Malik (CIF)
      Sonia
      Amrit
      Tom (BorisWatch)
      Nyrone

      I think I’m missing someone…

anyway, we were there for 6 hours!
And I thought no one would arrive on time *cough*

Its not my fault people are sticklers for timing dammit!

    26. Amrit — on 10th August, 2008 at 1:26 pm

‘you’re amongst a few others I’ve always wanted to meet’

Really? Why?! I have nothing much to say when it comes to politics, I swear!

Watch out Ben, you’re starting to sound like a certain Sméagol. I would like to see The Sopranos, but I think I would still prefer The Wire since it is more realistic.
