Save Bridget O’Koro
Bridget O’Koro arrived in the UK seeking asylum after committing the terrible crime of choosing her own boyfriend. Worse still for the oppressive thugs that regard these things as their business rather than Bridget’s, her boyfriend was not a Muslim and not of her Hausa tribe. Needless to say news of her pregnancy to this man was not greeted with joy and congratulations. Instead her father and the local Islamic Council threatened to kill her.
Despite the fact that Nigeria is in no ones top ten nations to have a uterus in Bridget is being sent back to face at best a life lived looking over her shoulder and at worst death.
She is being forced onto Virgin Flight number VK296 on Saturday 5th July at 22:30 but there is a chance we could stop this by sending urgent faxes to Virgin airlines and the Home Secretary- details here.
Quite apart from the fact that this is a woman being punished for exercising her basic right to choose her own partner she is a valuable member of the community and demonstrates this through her voluntary work with the 3-D Drop In centre, not to mention her place as a valued member of the congregation at St Lawrence Parish Church in Drumchapel. Schemes like Drumchapel can ill afford to lose people like Bridget or does Fresh Talent only come with a degree?
You’d be amazed at the difference a few well placed faxes, emails and letters can make. If you are at all concerned by this case please contact Virgin and The Home Office. Incidentally is it not about time we completely boycotted Virgin flights for their participation in forced deportations?

Sunny, why is this a blog post if my post on Fatima Chaw wasn’t? Please explain the difference. Thanks.
Virgin = bastards, as evidenced by their sending of letters to their customers to stop them sharing music.
I just emailed Virgin Nigeria and Jacqui Smith, hope I have helped even a little!
Because the chosen ones can write about whatever they want.
PS, I’m already boycotting BA - aren’t they worse on this than Virgin?
Sunny, that’s not fair! Especially since Douglas Clark already suggested (in my last guest post thread) that the Fatima Chaw post should be cross posted here!
Thanks Amrit-the more the better
Sarah,
I put up the post without asking. I,m not aware of your post but would suggest that debate on editorial policy should be put to one side for the time being given the timescale involved in this matter.
For those wishing more information on Fatima Chaw these links may be of use

I will certainly getting on to the Home Secretary regarding the matter.
Sunny,
BA are the spawn of satan but as an easyjet chick I find it easy enough to boycott both.
Not amazed in any way at your governments behavoir. Immigrant Raids, at least in the US, are basically a PR stunt to show that politicians are doing “something” about undocumented workers. A purely populist manuver. What was the basis for rejection for aslyum? Did they not believe that she would be threatened in Nigeria?
Thanks for your link to my Facebook group, Clairwil. Have you joined?
Sorry to ‘boycott’ your thread… this is not your fault. It was just the easiest way for me to annoy Sunny about it!
I’ve sent an email…
Wow, wow.
BA are great, Big Guy- simmer down, Singh…
I do not wish to question her integrity but, okoro is an Ibo name from the south of nigeria which is predominantly christian. This would seem to suggest that she is not hausa.
Further, speaking as someone who has lived in and visits the country regularly, I can state categorically that it is possible to relocate to another state in the country and live in peace.
In addition, northerners(hausa’s) do not take christian names unless they have converted to christianity.
As Gege suggested, relocation within Nigeria is a possibility. She is not facing persecution from state actors. Asylum will only be given if state authorities are unable/unwilling to protect her. Therefore she has to go back. Virgin is only co-operating with UK authorities to return failed asylum seekers. Trying to rely on ‘positive contributions’ UK society only suggests her asylum bid was weak.
