    Problems posting comments?

by Sunny on 3rd June, 2008 at 8:52 PM

I’ve moved to a different system slightly to capture spam and other fake comments, and I’m wondering if it has locked out real people. Is anyone finding it difficult to post comments here? If you can’t post to respond to this, please use the contact form and let me know.

Next up – a slight re-design of PP! Any thoughts on that?

The colour scheme is nice- please don’t change it. The way that the comments are set out as well is brilliant.

I can still post (if you can see this).

Yes, I like the format of this site. Still, I have no website design skills, so asking me for recommendations would be rather like hiring a colour-blind decorator.

      Sunny,

My other issue, and I just lost my post to it, is a message saying that Javascript and Cookies must be enabled. Further down, my PC says that they are. When I attempt to backspace out of there, my post is lost. Is this related :-(

Oooh, I’ve had that problem as well.

      Thank God for BenSix,

I am not as weird as I thought, BenSix is too!

      :-)

Ah, good, glad that it wasn’t just me…

Do you hear voices as well? ;)

PP needs a considered redesign imo, the colour scheme, images etc look dated to my eyes now…when I get write I’ll post some suggestions but basically my feeling is change change CHANGE!:D

      BenSix,

      Probably :-)

Though the Javascipt demons have already attacked!

I was getting paranoid that no one liked me. Doesn’t mean they still aren’t though! Nothing wrong with the current format and it is certainly much better than the Grauniad,s.

I think I found a way to beat the spam bot. Just post a few lines of text, then when it accpets your comment click on the ‘edit’ section and copy and paste the rest of what you wanted to write into the box.

I like the general colour scheme, it’s clean and simple. but i think you are due a makeover, all the stuff on either side of the main stories is kind of distracting and i think to people who had a quick look at the site would feel like there are loads of ads (even though they are not) on the site. so i think you need more focussed sections on the sides (or wherever you want to put them instead of long lists of archives/related blogs/writers info etc…maybe just a single link for each of those allowing people into those particular sections if they want to see them.

OMG..you can edit stuff on ur posts now, that is excellent, i was hoping you’d sort that out…and the time limit is a good idea too!

How about updating the Elsewhere box once in a while too?

    13. sonia — on 4th June, 2008 at 4:33 PM

yes, i keep getting this thing telling me i need to enable javascript which i have.

    14. sonia — on 4th June, 2008 at 4:34 PM

That’s done manually. I used to do it daily when I had the time but work means it’s nigh on impossible to do often. Might be an idea to change or remove it…

The problem with this self-edit feature is that it deletes cookies everytime you use it. Thereby is kills the pre-filled Comments box form. This menas you have to fill in your name, mail and website every time you post. Usability bummer although the Ajax edit feature is fucking cool.

    17. Don — on 4th June, 2008 at 8:56 PM

It keeps asking me to enable java script and cookies.

    18. Don — on 4th June, 2008 at 8:57 PM

      Well, ok, not that time.

    19. Don — on 5th June, 2008 at 12:08 AM

Now it’s bloody done it again. I spent fiften minutes composing an erudite, elegant and unanswerable riposte to something or other, then got told to enable stuff (that never ends well with me, usually involves help lines).

    20. Sid — on 5th June, 2008 at 12:17 AM

I’ve found that when that happens the thing to do is:
copy your fine erudite comment (Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C)
      close down the browser
      re-open browser in another window
renavigate to you thread on PP
paste the comment into the box again
fill in your name and details…again (ugh)
      and hey presto!

    21. Don — on 5th June, 2008 at 1:12 AM

      It was easier before.

      re-open browser in another window

I can barely italicise. I only have a rough idea of what a browser is. Don’t make me jump through hoops.

You could add my new blog!

      http://thesituationeer.wordpress.com/

      *Shamefacedly packs away trumpet*

On a less self-aggrandising note, you could copy the links from the LibCon blog review into the Elsewhere box.
