Policy Exchange’s reputation plummets further

by Sunny on 9th April, 2008 at 8:44 am

Remember that infamous Policy Exchange report that found ‘hate literature in Mosques’? And remember how a BBC Newsnight investigation showed a lot of the evidence didn’t stand up? And then remember that Policy Exchange were furious and said they were looking into legal action against the BBC?

Yes, I know all this remembering is tedious but bear with me. I’m still waiting for Policy Exchange to sue because it turns out that now both the Sun and Daily Mail have taken down their original reports. Still waiting for the official complaint though. Why not complain to the PPC? C’mon Policy Exchange, still waiting for your legal action!

In further evidence that our media keeps making up this rubbish, it turns out that the story that “a Muslim bus driver told stunned passengers to get off so he could PRAY”, published in The Sun, also turned out to be rubbish [via thabet]. See 5 Chinese Crackers for more. The amusing thing is, the JihadWatch crew have already denounced this explanation as Britain “falling into dhimmitude”. You couldn’t make it up.

I consider it the growth pangs of Modern Britain. As the Muslim community grows to over 2 million and the eastern European community comes in, the traditional Englishman is going to feel somewhat cramped. Most will adjust, a minority will whine and complain. The media is full of those who will whine and complain but n the long term can do sweet FA about anything.

We pray and we’re hear to stay!

So, cramped traditional Englishman - tough!

    Anyway, here is today’s “rubbish”:

    Rather worrying, if true.

In Islamic law, a person is allowed to marry, once they are sexually mature and mentally capable of making that decision. In most countries maturity mentally has been considered to take longer than previously thought. It is biologically possible for a 12 year old to be a mother, that does not mean that it is ideal. The way society has evolved 12 year olds are not trained to be adults, they are still very much children. Hence most Muslim countries have the marriage limit at 16.

These people have no grounds to argue on, from a religious perspective. Furthermore Islam also clearly states to follow the law of the land (apart from in circumstances where it is in direct conflict with your practicing your religion). Marrying at a young age is an option, not a duty, hence every single Muslim is bound by the law in the UK as it is not in violation of Islamic law and does not stop us practicing Islam.

The government should take time to talk to Muslims before rolling over to the demands of fringe groups. When i say Muslims I don’t mean that joke of a “Muslim Sufi council” or whatever they are called.

I have a new piece up on Spinwatch with some background on Policy Exchange. I think this quote from Hugh Wilford about Dean Godson’s dad is particularly interesting:

“his Lovestonite style - obsessively anti-communist, hectoring, conspiratorial - in time alienated even his closest allies. For example, Arthur Deakin, that most hardline of Labour anti-communists, entertained misgivings about his involvement in TUC affairs, while Gaitskell himself had similar concerns about his role in the Labour Party.”

I’m a bit concerned that Dean Godson still has any sort of standing whatsoever. I’d have thought that being found out telling porkies would have ended his career.

cjcjc, here is IW’s response to that rather inflated story in The Times made unrecognisable by the tabloids:
