Earthquake in North England?

Ok, I just got a call from a friend saying she felt an earthquake about 15 mins ago. I laughed, thinking there couldn’t be an earthquake here. Except, according to this reading here, we’ve just had an earthquake!

Here’s a map of where it took place. It measured 4.7 in the Richter scale!

Update1: Sky News confirms it, BBC News 24 talking about China or something. Shame.

Just found this post after searching for ‘earthquake’ on Google Blogs! Yes, there definitely was an earthquake – my whole house was shaking! I’m in Lincolnshire.

That’s hilarious. I’m in London and felt my chair shaking slightly… and thought my mind was playing tricks on me.

BBC have decided from thus forth, they won’t turn to breaking news till it’s properly confirmed. Unlike Sky News, who turn to BREAKING NEWS when often there is no breaking news, leaving them with egg on their face. Recall one inicident they had BREAKING NEWS that a tsunami was about to hit the Chinese coast, they bought on experts, everything, and nothing happened …..

There’s like 100s of people calling in all over England… and it took me 2 min to find the website that tracks earthquakes to be able to ascertain it as fact.

I felt something too, but it turned out to be the vibrating Wii controller in the middle of a furious doubles rally.

Bah – didn’t feel anything in West London, and this in a house with shallow foundations where the bathwater makes interesting ripples if a freight train goes past. I slept through the Roermond quake in 1992 as well though.

CNN or Sky for breaking news. The BBC may wait-to-confirm but they’re slow as heck.
If it turned out to be the monster from Cloverfield then I wouldnt want to sit around ‘waiting for confirmation’ – I wanna RUN dammit.

Nice. Who thinks one of Josh’s friends is playing an HILARIOUS joke on him?

Anyway, I woke with a start last night and I definitely felt the bed shake, but I was in that half-awake state where you aren’t quite sure if you’re dreaming, so I just went back to sleep. AND NO THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE IN THE BED.

I felt it in Birmingham. It was actually pretty strong and I’m from Los Angeles saying this. I never thought I’d feel an earth qauke in this country. Another reason to take my ass back home.

Sunny probably lost a few more hairs over this. What a lil girl. Ha!

More concerned at what Refresh does with his Wii controller than what Josh Wilson gets up to with his mum.

I felt it at around 1:00AM precisely as I got into bed. The windows made some noise, and I also did not know what was going on, and felt a tad disoriented. Made a mental note to check the news the next day.

  26. Ruzi — on 27th February, 2008 at 6:33 pm
