This is nothing to do with islamic law, this is to do with stupidity of the dubai goverment, Each official gets 500 Dirhams (or what ever their currency s called) for catching someone with any ounce of drugs on them. Or even if it looks like something they have not seen before, it could even be a chocolate bar, or a sleeping tablet or pain killers. They dont care, even if its a bit of fluff in your trousers, they will get hold of you for the reward they get.

I guess this is what happens when you base your law on a medieval text.

However, 4 years in jail isn’t too bad considering if you’re a woman you would be burried up to your head in sand and have rocks thrown at your head until you’re dead, all for kissing another man of course.

Islamic law is backwards and frightening to anyone who enjoys freedoms such as we do.

Dubai is a building site, something like 45 percent of the worlds cranes are there. It’s only paradise if you’re into building sites in a big way. It’s run like a medieval European fudal kingdom with a small number of ruling families running everything, which is more than a little backwards. They project this image of perfection, but that’s all it is – an image. Officially there’s no crime but you can buy copy designer goods everywhere and the CIA world fact book describes it as a major trans shipment point for heroin originating in Afganistan. YouTube and Flikr are banned, as is searching for the word privacy on Google. This country is only forward thinking when compared to Saudi and their public executions. Don’t go there or any country in that area if you possibly can!

For all the drum & bass fans, Grooverider’s been locked up in Dubai since November for 2.16gms of weed… he’s facing four years. At the end of the day you’ve got to respect the laws of where you’re travelling to but it seems really harsh

A thousandth of a gram? Surely that is just a trace element? If a drug user rubbed against you somewhere, I’d have thought you could acquire that by accident alone. This seems like silly legislators to me. So, nothing new there.
