Coverdrive,

Before you accuse, look at the following statements Kallidai has issued too:

1. He has categorically said on their website that he is not and has never been a member of the HSS,RSS, BJP or VHP.

2. He has said that he had never said that the RSS idealogy was exemplary and that Gilligan had taken an excerpt from a misquote in an RSS publication, which he had told them to correct, but they never did (naturally it is to their advantage to have Kallidai seen to be praisinig them)

3. He has also said that the Metro had misquoted him on the Muslim conversion issue - he had said that there was resentment in the community about conversions as they had got feedback on this from every community workshop they had conducted, and they had no idea about numbers. However, they wanted to deal with the resentment by finding out facts, and either doing myth-busting to reassure the community that it does not exist, or if it does, to use the rule of law.

4. You make it sound that Kallidai has a grudge against Hussain just because he is Muslim. This is not true - they have just protested nude portrayals of Hindu Gods in compromising positions and this has nothing to do with Husain's religion.

Clearly, you only want to pass judgement based on media reports - feel free.

This event is terrible. I went to the first four! It is nothing but glad handing with MPS and Politicians who just want to make sure they get their pic with some brown faces for them to use at election time. I'm not being unfair - that's the hard truth.

This is a major event to the HFB every year and well done to them for getting as many politicians as they do - but they invite all their friends, rich businessmen and celebrities. They can donate lots of money to the HFB so they get the invite! Where are the real people from the community? the ones that get stopped and searched by the police, the ones who don't get the education they deserve, the ones who are the future? Surely, it would be more wise if there were some people there who actually did represent us?

just a thought...

Andrew Gilligan of the Evening Standard had an expose about Kallidai being a sympathiser of the RSS’s ex-leader M.S.Golwalkar. I would rather judge him by what he has done as head of HFB than a kind gesture to a poor Muslim homeless man who most people would have pitied irrespective of their religion.

Let me remind you of what Kallidai has done:
- spoke at the British conference of the RSS earlier this year in Wembley and praised its ideology
- create an international campaign to save Shambo the bull even though it had TB and had to be slaughtered as the law requires
- campaigned against an exhibition of pictures in London by India’s greatest living artist, M.F.Husain, a Muslim
- got Royal Mail to withdraw a Christmas stamp in 2005 because it showed baby Jesus and Mary with a Hindu mark on her head
- accused British Muslims of converting “hundreds” of British Hindu girls to Islam

He has refused to answer the question whether he is a member of an extremist organisation like the RSS, VHP or HSS.

Umbrella organisation it maybe but just like the MCB it less interested in fostering good community relations than pushing its own agenda.

The government is very slow to learn. By patronising these "community leaders" they are unintentionally providing support for extremism here and abroad.

These "community leaders" are much less interested in engaging in constructive inter-faith dialogue and ensuring good community relations than ramming down their ideology down other peoples' throats.

I think Sunny holds deep prejudices about anybody who is working in the forefront of communities - and everything he says about them has a negative bias because of these prejudices. It is quite one-sided, although it takes on the disguise of a balanced opinion. Some of the rot he spins out makes my head reel.

The report about Govardhan Brown is quite a positive one - is harmless fun, and everyone we spoke to seems tickled by it. However, Sunny as usual, sees only the half-empty glass. You are much more prejudiced and biased than the 'community leaders' you loathe so much.
