I’m not sure I buy this latest utterance from him. I think we’re seeing the unfolding of a shrewd political strategy; ministers allowed to speak their minds (within limits) and sound vaguely progressive while Brown attempts to look Blue and Thatcherite.

It’s a pincer move designed to keep people like us on side while grabbing whatever is left of the Tories support.
