Being a British Muslim woman
The media always makes it look like Muslim women have a rough old time of it, and we’re miserable… In an upcoming article, due to be published next week in The Muslim News, I’m writing about Five Things I Love About Being a British Muslim Woman. If you come back here on the 27th of September, you’ll be able to read the whole piece. In the meantime, here is a teaser-taster for you…
“Poor, oppressed, miserable, battered Muslim women!” cry the media harpies. They take lustful pleasure in oppression of their own kind, by misrepresenting us, by stifling our voices, by denying us our identities. “It cannot be that you love being Muslim!” say the politico-journo-lobbyist voices. “You must not partake of Britain and its values,” say the Muslim voices that also try to own us.
Read the rest, by Shelina. It’s cute.

CUTE?
that’s a bit condescending!
Its a bit content free at the moment.
Go Sonia!
TFI
I think women in hijabs are cute and really rather fuckable in a greatest taboo kind of way
about bloddy time …we’re not all miserable gits…and we’re not all the same..shock horror…
that’s a bit condescending!
Is it? I liked her chirpy paragraph that followed about liking fish and chips etc…
ha kismet, the term hijab hotties is highly googled i hear..
*sharp intake of breath*
Kismet, you read my diaries?!
so many illustrations…
well all right sunny ill climb down off my ‘no dont call us women cute” high horse.
I bought my girlfriend a hijab and she kind of spoiled my plan by freaking out and remembering her grandmother in the bedroom so my fantasy remains unlived
So horny
(I’d like to clarify that hijab hotties – I love that Sonia, thanks – are horny, as opposed to giving you the mental image of me being horny with a hardon as we speak. I should stop talking right now really)
Ermmm.. ok Kismet, let’s not go into your fantasies please. This is the wrong thread.
Sonia, I was calling her sentiments ‘cute’, not her.
‘Poor, oppressed, miserable, battered Muslim women!’ cry the media harpies.
Um… really Shelina? I read this more often from… female Muslim journos. I’m sure you probably mean well but aren’t you, in your admittedly “cute” way, just feeding the victim culture?
Actually it seems everywhere you turn there is some public sector organisation displaying its supposedly “inclusive” values with pics of headscalf-sporting young ladies, thereby piling on the pressure for Muslim girls who don’t want to wear this oppressive symbol (nb: I’m no media harpy, sadly, just a feminist, even though I am a boy).
More original to draw attention to this than harping on about your largely home-made victim status, don’t you think?
There’s a right thread for me to go into my fantasies?
Which one? Which one?
Is it the one about pashtunistan?
Hijab chic: Surely there’s room for a Gaultier/Westwood stylee hijab in Union Jack fabric?
I thought that the title was pretty funny:
‘Being a British Muslim woman, by Sunny’
Shelina:
It sounds like a good article. I look forward to reading the extended version. These things, even though they seem obvious to some of us, do need saying.
heh rumbold, i thought the same thing too.
‘lol’ at ‘being a british muslim woman’ by sunny..
Shelina seems nice, I met her at the mosque the other day.
and kismet, although I should be offended, I found that quite funny.
I’m glad you’re not offended. Just because I find hijab wearers shaggable doesn’t mean I get to shag them any more than all the other sections of the female community who impolitely refuse my advances
ali eteraz had that fabulous post on denuding niqabis – hilarious. im sure ive mentioned it before! that man has a really wicked sense of humour
I should hope so that they politely refuse ure advances..didnt you say you have a gf…?? or you not into monogamy?
I’m a muslim I can have four wives, no?
“Have” your own wives or someone else’s, Kismet bondhu ?
