    Best Wedding Ideas…

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article, but it sounds interesting…

Hi Sunny does CIF update at weekends?

  2. Clairwil — on 23rd September, 2007 at 5:51 pm

    Hi,
Sorry about that Sunny I came along yesterday to put up the thread but noticed Rumbold had just posted as there weren’t many comments I thought I’d leave to avoid burying his post with the open thread.

I came along today and you beat me to it!

  3. Clairwil — on 23rd September, 2007 at 5:51 pm

I shall follow up with something else instead.

  4. Jagdeep — on 23rd September, 2007 at 6:01 pm

Sheesh that’s a terrible track and video, and it’s got nothing to do with bhangra either, bhangra is dhol, tumbi, Punjabi rhythm and lyrics, this is just some sitar samples and a novelty song. You see this all the time, anything with a slight Indian aspect is described as bhangra by people that don’t know what bhangra is.

  5. Sunny — on 23rd September, 2007 at 6:34 pm

Jagdeep, I’ll email them to include in a sample by Lembher Hussainpuri just to make you happy for next time :)

No worries Clairwil, just do the weekend threads anyway, I look forward to them…

Nodn – occasionally. They have articles timed in advance to go up slowly…

Good idead Sunny, they’ll be playing at wedding receptions soon — and then send them down to Handsworth and hang out with the Punjabi guys down there for a while

    This is BHANGRA ——>

Clairwill — a couple of new episodes from the new series of Curb Your Enthusiasm only just been aired in America are up on youtube illegally, probably be taken down soon so watch them fast! I’m going to watch them later tonight!

    Meet the Blacks

    Looks freakin’ hilarious!

This is quite a funny music video for one of Akshay Kumar’s forthcoming films. Parts of it are shot like an MTV rap video. Has a catchy hook, I think.

    http://www.indiafm.com/broadband/video/Movie-Promos/NOK8rP82/1/Bhool-Bhulaiyaa-Bhool-Bhulaiyaa.html

Indian music vids have become increasingly racy during the past few years, I’ve noticed. There’s a lot of booty-shaking that wouldn’t have been acceptable until relatively recently (including in the video linked to above). I wonder if the easy access that Indians in the motherland have to American MTV vids on satellite/cable has a lot to do with people becoming more used to all that, generally speaking.

By the way, for non-Asian Picklers who don’t know, Akshay Kumar was the major ex-boyfriend Shilpa Shetty was referring to during her stint on CBB. Crusty ol’ Dirk Benedict had quite a studly rival to compete against, in terms of “the ghost of boyfriends past” ;)

Sorry about that Clairwil- I will think next time.

Iain Dale has complied a list of the 100 most important figures on the British left:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/09/23/nleft223.xml&page=3

Go straight to number 72, who ranks above Tony Benn and Michael Foot. How times change.

    72. SUNNY HUNDAL Blogger, PickledPolitics.com

There are few left of centre bloggers who could be described as ‘influential’. Sunny Hundal is one. His site specialises in discussing ethnic issues, but is increasingly reaching out to wider issues on the left. He’s an eloquent media performer and the very antithesis of the stereotype ranting blogger.

    ++++

F**kin’ hell Sunny, you’re more powerful than Tony Benn, Norman Geras and Gerry Adams. ‘Ethnic issues’, innit.

  11. Jagdeep — on 23rd September, 2007 at 9:32 pm

I counted seven British Indians on that list, not bad, not bad at all, the Daily Mail will be having a hernia.

  12. Anas — on 23rd September, 2007 at 10:06 pm

Sorry, but if that’s a list of the 100 most influential supposed “leftists” in Britain, then the term “left” has been drained of all meaning and is now a completely empty meaningless word. I’m surprised David Cameron isn’t in the top 10.

  13. Anas — on 23rd September, 2007 at 10:40 pm

..and Boris Johnson at number 6.

  14. ZinZin — on 23rd September, 2007 at 11:49 pm

Its the Telegraph, Anas, have a drink it will calm your nerves.

Did anyone attend Ravi/Anoushka Shankar’s concert today at the Royal Festival Hall? It was awesome. There is something majestic about the sitar, and Anoushka and her father do wonders with the instrument.

    Jagdeep,
I’ve seen the first two episodes of CYE and they are hysterical, particularly the second.

    Rumbold,
No need to apologise, I was just giving your post room to breathe!

  17. Jai — on 24th September, 2007 at 11:24 am

Okay Picklers, here’s a spot quiz for you. The question that’s been haunting Man since the dawn of time. The question that keeps normally sane individuals wide awake at night, minds in turmoil, hearts racing. The question on which the future of Western civilisation itself may hang in the balance.

Who’s hotter — Kelly LeBrock during her “Woman in Red” era, or Angelina Jolie ?

  18. Kismet Hardy — on 24th September, 2007 at 12:28 pm

    Woman in Red definitely

But then I am a fat bald 35-year-old

  19. Jagdeep — on 24th September, 2007 at 3:46 pm

Clairwill I swear I think these are the funniest episodes yet. I laughed out loud from start to finish for half an hour each episode and I got a stitch in my side from laughing so much. It’s the greatest comedy show ever made.

“I laughed out loud from start to finish for half an hour each episode and I got a stitch in my side from laughing so much. It’s the greatest comedy show ever made.”

I find it has good moments, but it is repetitive and it is getting quite predictable. And some scenes remind me of Seinfeld… which is not a bad thing. :)

  21. Jai — on 25th September, 2007 at 6:38 pm

    Ravi,

Did anyone attend Ravi/Anoushka Shankar’s concert today at the Royal Festival Hall?

If you’re referring to the one with Mr Subramaniam the master violinist then no, although I saw the adverts for it on some of the Asian satellite/cable channels. Looked pretty mindblowing. I love that kind of stuff.

    Kismet,

    Woman in Red definitely

But then I am a fat bald 35-year-old

I’m neither fat nor bald, but as a 34-year-old I can remember being totally blown away by Ms LeBrock’s gorgeousness when I saw “Woman in Red” on TV as a teenager. I know you know what I mean ;)

Angelina is basically a 2007-version of Kelly in terms of overall jaw-dropping hotness, I think.

“If you’re referring to the one with Mr Subramaniam the master violinist then no, although I saw the adverts for it on some of the Asian satellite/cable channels.”

Yes, that’s the one. It started at 4:00PM and finished after 11:00PM. It is a pity that Anoushka and Ravi Shankar (who is 87!) only appeared in the last two hours.

Anoushka is very cute and talented .
