Hurrah! It’s the weekend

What a relief the weekend is here. I thought my working week would never end, anyone working this weekend has my sympathy.

As you all behaved so beautifully last time, I will again allow political stuff as long as it’s funny and doesn’t lead to willy waving and fisticuffs. Please also share your interesting links, amusing anecdotes and tales of accidentally causing offence.

Today’s clip is again from Curb Your Enthusiasm. It’s quite long but worth a peep.

This is quite an amusing video currently doing the rounds on Zee Music; vaguely Jay-Zish, roguish rap about a guy who really, really doesn’t want to have an arranged marriage. Spot Kulvinder Ghir from Goodness Gracious Me in the vid too.

    Jai:

Funny video. You see all these American rappers driving round in their limos and visiting clubs in their videos. British Asian rappers have to do a spell in their relative’s shop (and you suspect that they really had to as well, otherwise they would not have been allowed to make the video).

This is why Larry should have played Jerry on Sienfeld.

Just had a very enjoyable working week. Took the class up to Beadnell, smashing house with the living quarters upstairs and a stunning view through two large windows of the north sea and both Bamburgh and Lindisfarne castles in view. Belongs to some christian group, but we get to use it because we’re special.

Caught the weather, lot of beach time. Boat trip to the Farnes and pub grub & pool in the evenings. The kids were great, lived every waking minute and slept like tops.

It’s hard to be a bitter old cynic when you actually love your job.

That Curb Your Ethusiasm video had me laughing so much I fell off the chair and concussed myself. It’s doubly funny because I’m big with the lesbian community as well!

Don, there’s nothing better than a teacher who loves his job. I hope my kids get teachers like you.

  12. Clairwil — on 15th September, 2007 at 9:50 pm

    Don,
You are a credit to your profession. I wish there had been more like you on the go when I was at school.

    Sid,
I had no idea you were a friend o lesbians.

    Bikhair,
I tried to get the ‘car pool’ episode for you but the version up on you tube is really bad quality.

OMG is that blossom in that CYE clip?1?

  14. Katy Newton — on 15th September, 2007 at 10:53 pm

    That is Mayim Bialik, yes.

    Don:

I do not know how you do it, even if you love your subject and the children are well behaved. I salute you sir.

    Leck mich im Arsch.

No really its true!. I was thinking about saying something about Germans and scatology, but then i thought naahhh. The discussion about whether to use the word ‘ass’ or ‘arse’ in the wiki article is also funny for its anality.

  17. Clairwil — on 16th September, 2007 at 2:35 am

There is a discussion about ass v arse? Good God! Why?

Arse is the only sensible choice.

  18. Leon — on 16th September, 2007 at 3:23 am

Nope, CYE still does nothing for me, I sit there watching it waiting for it to become funny and it just never does…anyway, anyone see the excellent Thick Of It special tonight? Now that is a f’cking funny show!

  19. El Cid — on 16th September, 2007 at 8:45 am

‘Arse’ if you’re speaking British English, ‘ass’ if you like U.S. hip hop or 1970s funk a little too much or are speaking U.S. English. Simple.**
Ass = four-legged horse like beast (can’t remember its relation to donkey and mule).

Moreover, fags are ciggies, fanny is a lady’s front not back bottom, and football is a game mostly played with the feet.

    Which reminds me…
**N.B. Please note ‘Arse’ doesn’t always mean bum/batty/bottom in British English and can be a reference to the current Premier League leaders. ‘So up the Arse!’ is not an invitation for a gay gang bang but words of encouragement for Arsenal Football Club.

ha ha! That clip is hilarious! That racist dog bit was class.

  21. Clairwil — on 16th September, 2007 at 3:01 pm

Can you imagine what a nightmare having a racist dog would be?

Can’t figure it out, eh ? Bunch of nerds. Here’s another hint from the lyrics:

    “I’m tired of using technology,
So why don’t you sit down on top of me”.

I know. Time for the naughty corner. Catchy tune and cool video anyway (and a very recent hit), assuming you know which one I’m talking about.

  23. Jai — on 16th September, 2007 at 3:15 pm

On a much more romantic and poetic note, here’s my current favourite song, recently released by Nusrat-Fateh-Ali-Khan-reincarnated Kailash Kher, taken from his new album.

Absolutely beautiful song and a wonderful video to go with it. I hope those of you who don’t understand Hindi/Urdu like it anyway. Enjoy.

Indeed! You’d have to explain yourself every time yuo went out… :(

  25. Rohin — on 16th September, 2007 at 11:14 pm

Don what age be the kids?

    I hate them.

No I take that back, I actually really like treating kids when they’re not crying. I hate THE PARENTS.

Jai it’s Timberlake’s latest tosh. He’s gone off the boil. Music in general is off the boil these days.

    Are you approaching 30?

  27. Rohin — on 17th September, 2007 at 12:18 am

Four years away, FOUR YEARS. Don’t rob me of those years Sid, those sweet sweet pre-30 years.

However, I have always FELT like an old git. My body’s just catching up.

  28. Sid — on 17th September, 2007 at 12:34 am

This Onion article is spot on on this.

    Sid,
I must admit it did make me wince a bit.
