    My last open thread!!!

by Katy on 11th August, 2007 at 5:24 pm

Unfortunately I find that I have so much work to do that I can’t really maintain posting for three websites. For various reasons I think that I am not making much of a contribution to PP anymore - I very rarely post here anyway - and so that’s the one that I’m going to let go. I hope to carry on commenting here because there are so many people who I like and enjoy discussing things with, but I’m not going to be writing any more articles.

So this is really a “farewell Katy” thread, except that it isn’t because I am still going to be around, just not actually writing anymore. Usual open thread rules apply…

I really am very sorry to read this. I don’t know if you saw my post offering you and your mum contributors slots on my blog… but the offer is still open to you both. Please pass it on to her…

Fair enough Katy- you have a full time job and a mother in hospital (how is she by the way?). Just make sure that you keep commenting.

Katy, I’m sorry about that, but you do seem to have a lot on your plate. Please at least keep us informed about how your mum is doing.

    4. ZinZin — on 11th August, 2007 at 8:36 pm

Oh great. Its always the good ones who leave first.

    5. Don — on 11th August, 2007 at 8:55 pm

See ya, Katy. I guess a few of us will be dropping by at your blog come the weekends.

How’s your Mum Katy? Hope she’s doing good. Hope you stick around and throwing custard pies at us here even though you’re short of time.

Go in the way of the light ( if you’re really posh) but if you’re not…Don’t let the bastards put you down. I really do hope that you leave PP as friends. It has been a pleasure and a honour crossing swords with you. I hope to do so again with you in the near future. You come back now and come soon. I for one will miss you.

      Love

      Your ever faithful honey bunny

      The Dude.

      katy,

sorry to hear this… but looking forward seeing you writing on the other sites…!

      Helloo everybody!
      She’s not going.
She just hasn’t got time to do the open thread thingy.
Stop getting all American and mushy.

Is this where I say I’m currently reading Letters from Bury Park? Anyone else read it? What did you think?

    14. Don — on 12th August, 2007 at 6:42 pm

This might pass an idle moment.

      Katy,

I’m very sorry to hear you won’t be posting your popular and much-needed open threads anymore (someone else on PP really needs to take over — Clairwil/Rohin ?). But please don’t stop commenting here; I know it can be tough sometimes, especially the fixation on “foreign policy” in some quarters (something myself and several other commenters have frequently argued against), but your intelligence, warmth, sense of humour and fundamental decency are desperately needed on this blog.

I do really hope you’ll continue to drop by here when you can, because your regular presence makes a huge difference to the atmosphere on PP — perhaps more than you realise.

In the meantime, I hope your mother is doing okay. Please keep us updated when you can.

Have you sold your soul to the Devil?

    17. El Cid — on 12th August, 2007 at 8:40 pm

Greetings, I meant Greetings from Bury Park…. eejet

    18. Katy Newton — on 12th August, 2007 at 8:53 pm

El Cid is right, as usual. I will still be around on the comments, although possibly less than I have been.

Rob - on the rare occasions that I do want to post about something political, it is generally to do with domestic policy. So if I get the urge to post about something I may well post it at the Kitchen, because DK’s readership is more interested in that sort of thing; his site and this site are very different not only in terms of political orientation (I suspect that I am seen as right-wing here and left-wing there) but also in terms of subject matter. I think in retrospect that the Food For Thought thread would have been better suited to the Kitchen, for example.

But at the moment I seem to be working approximately 18 hours a day and I can’t commit to a regular thread anywhere. I don’t have a commitment of that sort at the Kitchen, but I do here and it seemed right to explain why I wasn’t keeping to it anymore.

    19. El Cid — on 12th August, 2007 at 8:54 pm

El Cid is right, as usual.

You haven’t been on the sauce have you Katy?

    20. Katy Newton — on 12th August, 2007 at 9:08 pm

Nope. I have been keeping an eye on your comments, dude, and I think we agree on 99% of issues.

    21. El Cid — on 12th August, 2007 at 9:15 pm

yeah, the all new calmer El Cid!
Maybe we’re suffering from a bit of racial politics fatigue.
That’ll probably earn me a few virtual slaps but I know who I am and what I stand for and what I don’t, so I’m sure I can handle it.

Send a flying happy slap :D

    23. sahil — on 12th August, 2007 at 10:40 pm

PS Katy (mind the flying slaps) will you let us know about your mum, hope she’s doing great and not eating any of that hospital filth. Go now and get her a pizza :D

    24. Sunny — on 12th August, 2007 at 11:33 pm

Well, Katy is still going to be around commenting (hopefully) so there’s no need to make it into a depressing weekend thread!

Hope Chairwoman is doing well by the way.

    25. bikhair aka taqiyyah — on 13th August, 2007 at 12:27 am

      Sunny,

      How about I replace her?

    26. Nodn — on 13th August, 2007 at 2:49 am

Sunny- if you are looking for a replacement to put up open threads, I am here… I just need to know how it’s done!

    27. justforfun — on 13th August, 2007 at 7:59 pm

I come back from my yearly chucka around my Scottish estates taking in the Women’s open at St Andrew’s. All is quite in Kirkcaldy and our illustrious leaders home patch - new hovercraft service to Edinburgh + good weather, and I come back to bad news. What gone on?

      Who’s to blame for this?

Katy - I hope your Mum is keeping busy while being confined to bed. Online gambling is all the rage I hear so

      Good bye Katy!

    29. Sunny — on 14th August, 2007 at 1:17 am

Erm, Clairwil is still here and will take over the weekend threads division people. Thanks for offering though!
