Shockingly, there’s more brown people in the UK

I know, I’m just as shocked as you are. The brown babies have multiplied manifold and soon their numbers will be so big that the entire Daily Express readership will be devoured. Mwahahaha!

The non-white British population of England and Wales has grown from 6.6 million in 2001 to 9.1 million in 2009 – nearly one in six of the population.

The figures, which give a detailed ethnic breakdown for every one of the 423 local authorities, were published on Wednesday in an “experimental” data release from the Office for National Statistics. They also show there are now almost a million mixed-race people in the two countries.

Just 2.5m extra minorities in a decade? That’s a pretty pathetic rate of growth when compared to brown people in India and Pakistan. What’s going on?

Brent in north London is the most ethnically diverse borough, while parts of Wales the least diverse. Haringey has the most amount of mixed-race people apparently.

The Daily Express is naturally alarmed by all this. That makes me happy.

I’m not worried about the mix, but are we not now too crowded?

Though as I own a house in central London I suppose I am a beneficiary!

  2. oldpolitics — on 19th May, 2011 at 10:10 am

Hang on to it, cjcjc – I’m sceptical about house prices in general, but I spoke to an EU statistician last month who said their base case for the population of Greater London in 2060 is 25 million people.

I’m not sure exactly where they think they’re going to be, or what water they’re going to drink, or where their sewage is going to go, or what transport network they’re going to use, but hey, never mind… maybe we’ll have hovercars and treatment plants that make energy and fresh water out of poo by then.

On the substantive, tongue in cheek though the article is, that’s 38% in 8 years (though I’m not convinced the figures are right – but assuming they are), which works out at just over 4% a year. Doesn’t that compare quite well with India? Wikipedia thinks India is growing by 1.4% a year, Pakistan by 1.6%.

It is a ridiculous story, but sadly this is the kind of propaganda that is accepted by people who affiliate themselves with the like’s of the edl and bnp.

the majority of UK is white over 86% according to last census, with the latest 2011 census being processed i doubt there will be a huge difference.

  4. Optimist — on 19th May, 2011 at 10:48 am

Soon the Labour politicians will be shouting, again, ‘British Jobs for the British(white) Workers’ and how ‘no one listens to the white working class’ while all these ‘non-whites have access to all the media/social services/jobs/politicians etc and live in luxury’!

And it won’t be just the Labour politicians, with a bit of help from Daily Express/Mail/Star and co., others won’t be too far behind, as they all would want to outdo the EDL/BNP!

Where does the DE article express alarm?

How is the Daily Mail story propaganda?

Bit of a dystopian fantasy – and quite fun, but there are some issues to do with the way our inner city multi-culture has developed in there that can’t be so easily ignored either. Racism, rates of unemployment, crime and punishment, poverty.

That is as stupid as “white babies will have multiplied manifold and soon their numbers will be so big that the entire Daily Express readership will be enraptured.”

    Neither idea makes sense.

    I don’t.

I do not care about there being more brown folk than white folk. Why should I?

It is only you that appears to think that matters.

  13. Kismet Hardy — on 20th May, 2011 at 10:59 am

Does anyone need an idea for a sci-fi novel? This is mine, I’m never going to do anything with it, use it if you like:

In the future, where everyone is mixed race, the ruling class is known as the HIGH BREEDS (hybrid, geddit?), followed by the common type the MONG GIRLS (a bastardisation of mongrels, and as such exclusively female – by all accounts the future will be as sexist as it’s always been)

Then at the lowest of the low, the POOR BLOODS (pure bloods, you get the picture), who are considered weak and diseased because of their unmixed ancestry, and deemed untouchables.

The story revolves around the forbidden love between a Mong Girl and a Poor Blood boy, and to make matters worse, a High Breed has fallen for the Mong Girl.

    I’ll let you name it

… and soon their numbers will be so big that the entire Daily Express readership will be devoured. Mwahahaha!

A few years ago the Detroit Press did a series of articles about how Detroit’s racial composition changed completely in just a decade or two after the war. It focused on the Elmhurst neighbourhood of the city, which was very Jewish before WW2. Many Jews who had fled Nazi Europe had gone there too.
To cut a long story short – as blacks moved in, the Jews moved out, and the middle class neighbourhood with its synagogues and Jewish businesses, became a ghetto. For all kinds of reasons of course.
But it hapened all the same. I wouldn’t mock the Jews who left though. It must have been tough for any Jews who stayed as the neighbourhood spiraled down and they lost their community.
Blame racism, blame suburbanisation, urban sprawl and blame the estate agents who engineered the white flight by alarming the homeowners about the consequences of not selling up.
But don’t mock, I would say.

it’s common practice for governments, we have seen it in the uk they stuff poorer people into overcrowded under resourced town’s and cities.

What do you expect if you put the least educated and poorest people in one town, your not going to get a stockbroker belt pop up that’s for sure!

  18. damon — on 21st May, 2011 at 1:28 pm

Sure Jamal, it’s a very complex issue.
One that has to be spoken about thoughtfully, and certainly not shied away from.

I just read this article from today’s Independent.

”Our young men are dying in a war, and it’s not in Afghanistan”

Sofyen Belamouadden was 15. So was Negus McClean, who was stabbed in Edmonton in April, and bled to death. So was Temidayo Ogunneye, who was killed in Camberwell last week. He was the fifth teenager to be stabbed to death in London this year. Negus McClean was killed after a fight over a BlackBerry. Temidayo Ogunneye’s BlackBerry had been stolen two hours before he died. But these young boys, who are nearly all black, aren’t dying for BlackBerries. They’re dying because they’re in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

The wrong place is London, and the wrong time is now. It’s the wrong place, because if you live on certain estates, or in certain streets, or in certain postcodes, you’ll see joining a gang as a natural rite of passage, like your middle-class neighbour’s gap year. It’s the wrong time because the pressure to be part of a gang is bigger now than when Stephen Lawrence was killed, and getting bigger every day. “As I see little kids go to secondary school,” said a youth worker on the Today programme on Monday, “they go straight into that gang culture. They are,” she said, “10 and 11 years-old.”

    http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/christina-patterson/christina-patterson-our-young-men-are-dying-in-a-war-and-its-not-in-afghanistan-2287170.html

I did some posts like this on another very left/liberal forum a few years ago, and ended up getting called a racist and banned. So I don’t really bother trying too hard on the internet now. There is too much polarisation. But all those poor black people in inner citty boroughs haven’t really been ”put” there. They or their parents chose to live there, not Cornwall or the Isle of Skye. My immigrant parents also chose London. And chose to arrive with very little and spend their first years living in the urban bedsit land of Balham and Clapham.

  19. les — on 21st May, 2011 at 1:29 pm

    jamal,

The government don’t ‘stuff people’ anywhere. People, immigrants included, in this country are free to move anywhere they wish, and in general they wish to move into areas that most closely resemble the country they hail from in, in terms of ethnicity and culture.

There is no excuse in this country for anyone to be uneducated as the public education system is available to all, as are a whole gamut of personal options. The schools in this country were fine until unruly, undisciplined pupils turned them into un-teachable magnets of gang violence.

The poorest non-white is only as poor as the poorest white as every immigrant has equal access to social security.

These tired old excuses are just that.

  20. jamal — on 21st May, 2011 at 7:22 pm

    damon

the parts of london you talk about have some of the poorest and least qualified/educated people. My argument is simple if town X keeps getting the poorest and least qualified people you know what the end result will be, usully it equates to overpopulated, under resourced rundown areas.

The type of area which if your middle class and have money you avoid. The government seems happy for this situation to continue because i see no plan’s to change this.

  21. Cluebot — on 22nd May, 2011 at 5:42 am

    Shit name

    *shrug*

    I ‘read’ your stuff

Since it pains you so, please cease and desist, and feel better.

  22. les — on 22nd May, 2011 at 1:46 pm

    jamal,

I explained above that there is no excuse for any of this.

    It is all self-inflicted.

Now I was brought up in London, as poor as it gets in this country. But we had never heard of muggings, let alone gang rapes.

The idea of being shot by a teenager was alien to us, just as it was alien to us that our postcode may warrant us being chased, stabbed, shot or beaten to death.

I am now a successful businessman because I wanted out of ‘poverty’ and I worked to do just that.

No one gave me anything, nor have I ever claimed a single thing from the state.

I am sick and tired of hearing about how it is not the fault of the muggers, the shooters, the stabbers and the gang rapists, and even the implication that somehow because I am white it is actually my fault.

And I know many others are sick of it too.

  23. damon — on 22nd May, 2011 at 3:07 pm

I wouldn’t put things like Les at all. I’d be interested in this debate, but I’m pretty sure it’s not one for Pickled Politics. The OP made it pretty clear that the white middle classes who read the Daily Mail and the Express have to be just mocked and laughed at. The kind of people you see in Worthing if you ever get down there. The place is ”hideously white” whith lots of older middle class people out in the market area, and you just compare it in your mind with places like Lewisham, Peckham or Stockwell in south London and it’s just like you passed over into a parallel universe.

I wrote about this before on a website for Billy Bragg fans, but I got short shrift and told to get lost. They just did not want to discuss things in the way I was presenting them. It was quite a bruising experience for me actually as I had been a fan. It turned me right of Billy Bragg in fact. As I thought there was a hollowness and fakeness behind all the right-on PC rhetoric.

I am reminded though of Sunny’s recent comments of campaigning for the Labour party in a council election ward in Peckham, which was a mix of private houses and council estates, and was described as a ”nice mix”.
I don’t see those inner city boroughs where there is poverty next to middle class professional families as being particularly nice.

Deborah Orr writing in the Independent in 2008 described it very well when she whote about a murder in her street in Stockwell. On one side of the road were the big mansion type houses loved by those people with money who want to live near the centre of the city, and on the other, the edge of a big housing estate.
    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/knifed-on-my-street-the-ugly-divide-that-ravages-our-capital-city-871801.html

As soon as I read that she lived on Guildford Road SW8, as I was driving past every day on my way to the West End, I turned down it for a look. The flowers for the dead youth were still there. As were a couple of those big water pistol guns which the young man had been playing with with before he was killed.

I think places like that are a kind of apartheid. The liberal middle class parents often I’m guessing, not beeing keen to send their children to the local school.
But as I say, I don’t agree with the way Les puts it.
It’s a lot more subtle than that.
This is btw, the same bit of road that a five year old was shot and wounded in March when youths on bikes fired shots into a shop.
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1386210/Stockwell-shooting-Thusha-5-paralysed-waist-down.html

  24. jamal — on 22nd May, 2011 at 5:27 pm

    Les

if a criminal commits a crime how did you came to the conclusion it’s the fault of white people like yourself?

Crime has always been part of london life and does not belong to one race of people. How can you not of heard of muggings? it’s not a new phenomenon you had gangsters in the 60′s and 70′s you had murders you had rapes.

For the youngsters today, society to me is getting more violent knives, guns and gangs is the way it’s going it seems.

I hope the government get’s a grip fast because certain places have become no go areas completely and that is a nightmare scene we only saw before on american dramas!

  25. les — on 22nd May, 2011 at 6:52 pm

    jamal,

It is quite obviously not my conclusion, but one put forward frequently by so-called ‘community leaders’, so much so that The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu warned against using such excuses, going on to point out:

‘Today our prisons and mental health units are disproportionately full of men and women from minority ethnic backgrounds.

‘Our young offenders’ units are full of young black men, many of whom under-achieved at school and thought that the only way out to earning a quick buck was by committing crime.’

And whilst I fully agree that criminals commit crimes, the simple fact is that black people are committing the majority of violent street crime in London, and are massively disproportionately over-represented in virtually all ‘blue-collar’ crimes.

Last year we discovered that in London two thirds of shootings, over half of ‘muggings’, over half of knife crime, a third of all sexual offences, and nearly all gang rapes were perpetrated by black people.

When something is such glaringly obvious in pattern (and it is not just in this country either) we have a right to ask why. We also have a right to say that maybe it is not the best idea to continue allowing more people into our country from places that we know are highly likely to contribute in totality and in massive disproportion to our crime rate, and even introduce new types of crime.

Of course at this point you will scream ‘racism’ because that is precisely what people are conditioned to do in today’s ‘PC’ society. All it is, of course, is plain old common sense and in fact our duty. Just as you wouldn’t open your home to people you know are much more likely then others to attack, rob or rape you and your children. This country is our home.

As for crime in London, sure it has always been here, as it is in other city. But never like this. Never anything like this. And no, I hadn’t heard of a mugging when I was a boy in my area because they didn’t happen. We heard about it going on in places like Peckham, but it wasn’t part of our life.

Just as the gangsters of old killed very few compared to today (which is why ‘Jack the Hat’ was such a big sensation) and it was almost always amongst their own. They certainly didn’t drag pregnant women out of a car and kneecap them in front of their children after a minor car prang, as I remember happening in Streatham some time ago.
