Story emerging (www.sikhsangat.com) that someone called Mr Rai has committed suicide. If this is Dr Rai one of the candidates, do the rules allow the election to carry on in Ealing Southall.

Actually, Sunny, it looks bad for Isaby, who made the post at the Torygraph.

The guy trades on being an insider with access to Tory gossip and made the claim that his source was an insider on the campaign.

Even if he was bullshitting, the relevant section of the act covers statements that are or might reasonably taken to be based in information given by voters, which cover exit polls and tallies taken while verifying postal votes.

Basically he’s hung himself already and the big question now is whether he was spinning a yarn or whether he did get a tip from the inside of the Lit campaign.

An investigation has been launched after a complaint from the Labour Party about alleged electoral offences in the Ealing Southall by-election.

The complaint relates to an internet blog entry which claimed to show how many postal votes each candidate had won ahead of Thursday’s ballot.

The article on the Daily Telegraph website quoted “a source inside the Tory campaign”.

The Metropolitan Police said the matter is being “thoroughly investigated”.
