‘British Oppression’ demo today

The British Oppression demo, which I mentioned [1] earlier, is definitely taking place today. I’m surprised it was allowed to go ahead. As many on the earlier post and [2] on blogs [3] have [4] pointed [5] out, it is very likely to be Al-Mujjies and Al-Gubbies who are behind this [6] rather than Hizb ut-Tahrir. Which begs the question: why would the police give a bunch of people most-likely-to-become-terrorists permission to demonstrate in front of Downing Street?

Update: I managed to talk to Riazat Butt from [7] Islamophonic who went to the event and any suspicion that this was stage-managed by the police to give Muslims a bad name can be dispelled. She told me this.

There were around 200 Muslims, 200 NF/BNP supporters and around 300 police at the event. Most men wore masks around their faces and all the women, who were in a separate bit from men, wore veils (including a 6-8 year old girl). There were around 4 speakers and each was heavily shielded by supporters so no one could actually see who it was. Clearly the demonstrators were aware that the police was trying to identify them.

Riazat went into the crowd of Muslim supporters to record the speeches but was told off by some men for not wearing a veil and said she shouldn’t be standing with the men because that was un-islamic. She said she was quite intimidated and felt treated like a second-class citizen. Anjem Choudhary was their spokesperson of course. In his interview he condemned organisations like the MCB but was much nicer to Hizb ut-Tahrir. Well, ain’t that sweet…
Oh, and apparently the placards were completely non-inflammatory. The Al-Mujjies do have brains then. Choudhary was nevertheless calling for Shariah law to be established in Britain. Well there’s a surprise.

I hate to be sceptical, but I wonder whether the Government does not mind such events from taking place, as they can be capitalised on later, as has been seen in the past.

Interestingly, HuT have placed a kind of coded message on their website (www.hizb.org.uk) urging people not to fuel “dangerous political agendas” - that seems like a clear attempt by them to distance themselves from the organisers of today’s demo.

The words ‘race riot outside Downing Street’ spring immediately to mind.

At the same time as the domain britishoppression.com was registered with entirely fake registrant details, white British nationalists and flag-waving white-supremacist English-pride organisations — most of whom seem to be populated by people so proud of England that they can’t be bothered to learn to speak the language properly — had managed to organise a counter-petition with a staggering 645 signatories calling on the Government and Police to stop the British Oppression demo from taking place, long before any content was uploaded to the British Oppression web site, long before any posters advertising the demo had appeared around the country, and long before anyone other than the organisers of the so-called ‘Muslim’ protest against British Oppresion could possibly have known about it.

A quick perusal of British neo-Nazi sites will confirm that there was much incitment by new members to their online discussion forums to rally some flag waving white nationalists to turn up outside Downing Street and cause even more trouble than was already scheduled by the hitherto unknown parties responsible for organising the original British Oppression demo.

Note also that we are just a few weeks shy of the second anniversary of 7/7, an anniversary for which a supposed uprising of ‘Muslims’ against British Oppression, complete with a cleverly stage-managed race riot outside Downing Street, would add much fuel to the raging fire that is the continued and ongoing demonisation of the Muslim community.

Wow, that sounds like such a light-hearted and fun vibe! Must remember to give the Big Chill a miss and go to the next one of these instead…

Cunts on all sides, I think we can agree.

I was there yesterday. There were maybe 100 Muslims (mostly from one group), 80 BNP (mostly from one group and the majority of them were women) and a fair few more than 300 police (there were vans full of them eating kitkats and playing nintendo in side streets all over the place). Most of the Muslim men did not have their heads covered. Placards with slogans such as ‘British Police Go to Hell’ and ‘Shariah The Only Solution’ hardly strike me as being conciliatory. I’ve got a memory card full of photos the whole thing…

Aside from that the account of the protest given above it spot on.

And who ever claimed the police were behind this? They’re just puppets all the way to the top at the best of times. Another straw man bites the dust…

#7 Comment By Stef On 16th June, 2007 @ 2:53 am

edit - the majority of the Muslims were women NOT the majority of the BNP, though they were ugly sods and I wish they were wearing hajibs

#8 Comment By leon On 16th June, 2007 @ 1:33 pm

200 NF/BNP supporters

You what!? She sure about that, they normally only barely to get around 50 odd people to their demos…

#9 Comment By riazat On 16th June, 2007 @ 3:44 pm

stef - we could have a row about numbers but the ones I got were a) from the Met and b) gathered in the time honoured tradition of hackery. and i am going to disagree with you on the covering. alot of the muslim men had their faces covered. i was there too.

#10 Comment By Roger On 16th June, 2007 @ 5:23 pm

How could you tell whether the 200 NF/BNP supporters actually were NF/BNP supporters rather than mere opponents of the demonstartion?

#11 Comment By Abu Farooq On 17th June, 2007 @ 4:13 pm

For your information it does not matter about the numbers, its what they was calling for. And to correct all of you there was only a handfull of BNP/NFs while there was about 100 - 150 muslim women (Alhamdulilah) and about the same amount of muslim men. From an topside view it looked liked thousands of muslims had gathered to oppose the oppression which is clearly aimed at the muslims. And for the comment made by septicisle I disagree. I know that the muslims are not what you call them. Keep your filthy language to yourself and I hope you wash your mouth before you speak to your wife and kids (if you have any). people like you cause unnecessary bickering and slanging matchs. So if you want to debate we can do so but clean your act beforehand please.

Seems like another instalment in the “British Oppression” demo will take place after Friday prayers today in London according to the march organisers:

[12] www.britishoppression.com

“Protest against the “knighthood” of Rushdie

O Muslims! Do your duty and rise up against British oppression.

Protest on Friday 22 June, 2007, after Jumu’ah prayer.”

Regent’s Park Mosque, London.

the answer to that question Sunny I would have thought was obvious: get the would-be-criminals/terrorists in one place and we know who they are!!!

“She said she was quite intimidated and felt treated like a second-class citizen. ”

heh i could have told her that. “dear sister you are not dressed islamically please go and stand with the sisters over there they will show you how to behave like a proper woman should”

i daresay its a good question to bring up on her islamophonic podcast, dear riazat, why did you feel treated like a second class citizen’

why not have a demo against oppression full stop. i should have been there with my questions about what the colonising and imperial efforts of the Early Muslims. One can hardly talk about British Imperialism if one is not prepared to extend the same critique to Islamic Imperialism in the days of the Caliphate.
