It’s the better late than never open thread.
Apologies but I’ve spent most of the day shouting at my computer wondering why I can’t get online. The shouting seems to have worked, so here I am.
I’ve taken up online Bingo which is ace and surprisingly exciting. I forgot about hoping to win, so busy was I cheering for the other lucky punters. I’m feeling lucky today so once my work is done here I’ll be off for a few games.
In the meantime let’s have your grand schemes, shocking confessions, hilarious anecdotes, jokes and random ramblings.

My “grand scheme” would be that posting the following links at PP causes 50,000 people to…..
Sign the petition to BUILD the ‘Mega Mosque’.
Or Sign this Pro Mosque Petition.
Or if you want to take a different view:
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ScrapMegaMosque/
(For the sake of balance Jamal)
Online bingo Clairwil? That sounds dangerous. Stick to a cup of tea and the Daily Telegraph.
Jamal this is the not-political weekend thread… and stop spamming our topics with that bloody petition.
Sunners, my apology. I thought it was worth a shot. Anyway, at least its been balanced with Rumbold’s comments.
Especially dedicating a whole post on “Sunny the Islamophobe”. What a even bigger scumbag you are, jamal.
Sid, you wnot get a PP promotion by brown-nosing Sunny.
Anyway, thanks for that publicity but if you actually decided to READ the post you would know that the initial post had nothing to do with Sunny.
The reference to Sunny is clearly stated as an “update” and “side note” and refers to what another blogger wrote about him.
FYI, I do think he’s sometimes anti-Islam, nevertheless, I already gave the link to Sunny to let him know what was being written.

Sunny is no more ant-Islam than he is anti-Sikh, or anti-Hindu or anti-anybody who deosn’t agree with his narrow world view.
Agreed.

Oh god you’ve given my game away. I so want to sleep my way to becoming an Asian meeja whore, starting with Sunny. Looks like you do too, otherwise why would you feel you need to advertise the petition for a mega mosque on the pages of an occasional Islamopbobe?
I’ll not point out the contradictions/flaws in that statement, as not to highlight your incompetance and therefore ruin your pending relationship.
What I will say is that Ive advertised it everywhere, but if you want to beleive ive especially chose PP for this purpose, feel free.
In the spirit of nostalgia, I thought it would be good to inspire fellow Picklers of a certain age to reminisce about happy days gone by, and post some of my favourite songs from my university days. Back when r’n'b was still called “Soul”, y’know, and Lisa I’Anson had a certain cool show on MTV…..
Chante Moore: “Love’s Taken Over” (the video’s not available on Youtube any more, dammit !)
Alexander O’Neal
Quincy Jones featuring various singers including Barry White
Ralph Tresvant
Seal (original album version’s even better; 30-second clip here)
Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam
Omar
Brand New Heavies
Terence Trent D’Arby featuring Des’ree (listen to her voice, man; she should sing the title track for the next Bond movie)
Galliano
Maxi Priest
Color Me Badd (No not that track; stop sniggering, this one’s a really nice romantic song)
I couldn’t find videos for “Ghetto Heaven” by The Family Stand, “A Love Supreme” by Will Downing, “Friendly Pressure” by Jaleesa (sp?), or “Kissing You” by Keith Washington. Erykah Badu was great too, especially her live MTV Unplugged performance in ’97.
******************************
I’d post stuff from my favourite singer Prince too, of course, but his vids are very hard to come by on the ‘net.
Thank-you Jai
At least someone remembers what the open thread is actually for.
Today I won £75 on online bingo.

So is there some kind of secret PP rank system, like those forums that hand out titles underneath poster’s names?
If so, what are the different ranks called?
Flying Rodents pisstake/fisktake of Melanie Phillips.
http://flyingrodent.blogspot.com/2007/06/islamofascists-want-to-destroy.html
Supreme Commander of the Universe and Lord of the Blogosphere: S. Hundal
Their Royal Highnesses the Crown Princes and Princesses (next in line to the throne): Rohin, Leon, Clairwil and Katy.

The Lord High magistrate of silly comments and official court jester: Kismet Hardy.
Their Graces the Dukes and Duchess: Sonia, Jagdeep, Douglas Clark, Don, El Cid, Nemours, Zin Zin, Sid, Chairwoman, Soso, Soru and everybody else.

No title for Kulvinder: He would not like that sort of thing.
I knew it. PP is like the Freemasons.
(rolls up his trouser leg)

“Sunny is no more ant-Islam than he is anti-Sikh, or anti-Hindu or anti-anybody who deosn’t agree with his narrow world view.”
No pleasing some people, eh?
No pleasing some people, eh?
Especially since I’m obviously supposed to agree with religious nuts.
STOP- Hammer time!
Very enjoyable grandprix
I had a nice nostalgic weekend – all very 1980s with a reggae and ska thing going on.
But on the way in the day ( I took a long walk from Hyde Park to west London) I passed two protests.
One was at Trafalgar Sq – but I won’t mention it in case we descend into politics.
The other was a nudist protest with naked cyclists who were campaigning for less oil dependency , no cars on the road etc and body freedom.
I don’t want to discuss the politics of oil or environment.
But I did suddently come one to one with a repressive side to me which I was ignorent to – I just don’t like seeing mass naked people in the streets. They were all naked – strutting their stuff, hanging loose, playing frisbee – women and men.. I just don’t like it.
Sorry of you were eating as you read this.
If I were dictactor for a day I’d bann naked people on aethetic grounds. I can’t explain why – it isn’t rational, maybe that’s what prejudice is – no reason for it except my own paranoi and insecurities about nudity.
Isn’t walking around naked likely to get you down for indecent exposure?
That’s what I thought.
But the leaflets said aparantly it’s not an offence in the UK yet to be naked and no-one has yet been arrested.
I swear it was a naked protest on wheels.
http://wiki.worldnakedbikeride.org/wiki/London
It was part of the world naked bike ride.
gaddamn.. why dont I ever get to see one of these nudist protest.
Because you’re a freshie Vikrant, and you can’t be trusted in the vicinty of naked white women
We love nudist protest,
and
nudist cook-ins,and going on about how horrible the world of Observer Women Magazine is.
do drop by for the regular fix…

Nobody posted their own favourite songs from their younger days or commented on my selection
We need to have a Soul & Rap Nostalgia open thread here on PP…..
I always feel so left out when people do the nostalgia thing because I was born in 1987!
And Tahir – funny that, I’m obsessed with The Specials, particularly their second album right now. The song ‘Gangsters’ (on the first album) is SO GOOD, and very applicable to us now!
