May I assume that a fundamental right wing element is behind this proposed March in relation to British oppression? What exactly is British oppression?

I accept racsim might be a part of this but if some people, fundamentalists, want to totally live outside the rules and have "own states" in parts of this country, then even I am lost. And I often get lost!

HT's made it clear they're nothing to do with this

Muslim party in posters denial

A MUSLIM political party has distanced itself from a rash of offensive posters that have sprung up in Birmingham.

The radical group Hizb-ut-Tahrir Britain, which translates as The Party of the Liberation, has condemned the fly-posting in Alum Rock, saying it has no link to the propaganda distressing local people.

But Dr Imran Waheed, a spokesman for Hizb-ut-Tahrir Britain, said: "We have no link whatsoever to the material that has been fly-posted in Birmingham.

"We believe that the posting of such material damages community relations and does nothing to create harmony between the city's residents.

It is not HT - it is Al-Ghurabaa who have organised it. Their magazine at http://www.theislamist.co.uk/ links to the British Oppression website. Also when I first saw stickers for this demo up I did a google search for the website and the domain name "British Oppression" initially had a line on it saying the "website of Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammad" - this now seems to have disappeared from the google search.

correction:

The bulk of social problems that hinder Muslims in British society are self contained structural and cultural issues like the lack of education and employment FOR MUSLIM WOMEN which cannot be blamed on British society

There is a myth that has arisen in our country -- the myth that Muslims are oppressed in British society. It is a myth that has been fostered in many ways and by many people, and it is a myth without the dignity of a whiff of truth --- it's a myth in the way that the Emperor's New Clothes was a myth.

The myth that Muslims are perpetually victimised, oppressed, and persecuted in Britain has as its base formation the politics of the old 'anti-racist' Left along with the toxic brew of Bunglawala-ism, that is, Muslim activist organisations with a deeply flawed paranoid ideological orientation to constantly claim victimhood and leverage attention and visibility by heightening resentment amongst Muslims. This chimera can be seen for what it is by the ignition point for Muslim political power in Britain --- the Rushdie affair, which became emblematic of Islam's 'victimisation' in Britain.

Add to this the Madeline Bunting saps, the Channel 4 Tristans who set aside 5% of their annual budget to make 'hard hitting' drama documentaries about how Muslims are on the verge of being sent to gas chambers, directed by Hampstead luvvies, and you have a really toxic brew, a fog of distorting mythology that obscures the fact that rather than being a persecuted and oppressed minority, Muslims living in Britain are the most priveliged and blessed members of the 'ummah', living in a society that guarantees their freedom of religion, equality of opportunity, an education system that is amongst the best in the world, a liberal and tolerant society that safeguards their rights and adjusts itself to accomodate their needs.

The bulk of social problems that hinder Muslims in British society are self contained structural and cultural issues like the lack of education and employment which cannot be blamed on British society. Muslims have to reform these aspects of their lives to empower themselves as other minority groups (particularly Indians and historically, Jews) have done.

In the meantime, protests like this will have a certain wider resonance amongst the Bunting-Bunglawala myth makers and myopics, the victimhood mongerers and the Cheese and Onion Conceptual Framework seekers, whose need for an exceptional framework rests on, and adds to, the mythology and fog surrounding the true nature of British Muslims and their place in our society.

Whois appears to be on to something and I suspect this is a hoax. I can understand wanting to register the website under a false address, but choosing "Little Green Terrace" as the false one? I don't buy it.

Gosh...never knew Britain was that bad!

I think they probably are former elements associated with Al-Muhajiroun, along with other rabble rousing elements.

A few years back, i was managing director of a major muslim magazine, and as part of our drive to recruit new talent we had organised a writing competition...with winners being presented at a ceremony. This was in the same week as the general election, and one of our panelists was from the MCB. Whilst one of our employees was distributing flyers he was actually phyisically prevented from doing so - things got nasty. The following week it happended and i had to scare them of - quite astonishing.

Now i don't know the exact nature of this demo, however if they are the same elements, and if they do behave in similar unacceptable ways then i do hope police make moves.

There is a clear difference between being passionate, committed and orderly in the demonstration in one's views, and behaving in a thug like manner.

Kulvinder,

There was nothing 'wrong' with Jamal's original post. Click on the link through his name though. Then tell me he's agenda free. That is a straightforward appeal to Muslims to see themselves as victims, no matter what. Shit stirrer of the first order, IMHO.

' it looks increasingly like Al-Mujjies'

Judging by the domain registration info posted above, it may well be that the whole demo, not just the counter-demo, is a BNP stunt. Or perhaps it was a Mujjle pretending to be from the BNP, or some third party just trying to start a fight.

Ultimately, there is no meaningful distinction between the real al-Muj and a BNP stunt anyway - if either side didn't exist, the other would create a fake version of them to justify it's own existence.

Neither road exists on goggle maps for manchester, and the postcode given is for manchester airport.
