Pastor Jones to speak to the National Front instead

Pastor Jones, who was due to address the English Defence League (EDL), has had his invitation withdrawn by the EDL and has now been invited to Britain by the National Front instead. As Richard Bartholomew reports, this was after a media storm led the EDL to ‘reconsider’ his invite and withdraw it on the grounds of his homophobic and racist views, despite the EDL knowing about them all along.

“…withdraw it on the grounds of his homophobic and racist views, despite the EDL knowing about them all along.”

In that, the EDL are rather like the left of the past decade which has repeatedly excused, whitewashed and ewven embraced racist homophobic Islamist preachers. Except that the left have never had the decency or even basic sense to repudiate such people even afterwards. Take the former Mayor of London, for example, and his disgusting embrace of Qaradawi.

By all means attack the Jones for Islamophobia, but please don’t pretend to be concerned about homophobia. If the left really cared about that, none of you would still be voting for the parties of the left, including Labour, which have done so much to facilitate homophobic and antisemitic Islamists in this country for years.

I guess it’s better that the UK public not face the demons that their governments foreign policy has created?
Am I the only one who thinks banning this guy is slightly hypocritical consdiering how many Muslim civilians are being bombed every day? Rather him burn books than people, to sabotage that well known phrase.

@2. Even Sunny supported the war in Afghanistan for most of this time. As does President Obama.
Who’s advice should the UK government seek in formulating its forriegn policy? The views of people sitting in the cafes of Cairo and Amman watching Al Jazera on the cafe TV? The Islamic students society at UCL?

If he intends to speak to the NF than he’s almost certain to be banned. I don’t think I have seen a member of the NF for 20 years. They could be said to hardly even exist. So even if he did come, who would even notice?

“The Dove World Outreach Centre evangelical church has approximately 50 members”

So had anyone heard of this loon before he threatened to burn copies of the Koran on the anniversary of 9/11?

Their ‘outreach’ methods are certainly interesting. Does incitement and bigotry count as a form of outreach?

Pastor Jones doesn’t like homosexuals and other religions much including Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism which he described as being of ‘demonic origin’ – BUT he doesn’t, as far as I can see, suggest anyone should be beaten up or killed because of their sexual orientation or beliefs.
That makes Pastor jones an ultra moderate preacher on the scale of ‘visiting hate preacher’ set by successive British governments.

The audience will presumably comprise exactly the same ‘people’.
