The Weekend Open Thread
Hello,
Relax, get yourselves a beer or six and make the most of this unexpected heatwave. I’ve got every window in the house open, the sun is streaming in and someone is outside playing the bagpipes. It’s as if someone has attempted to recreate Scotland in L.A, using short people turning from bright white to lobster red. There are no leggy models round my way.
I’ve spent the morning walking round my bit of the world and enjoying the sunshine. I also saw my first butterflies of the year. The first was the usual cabbage butterfly but the second was a fancy looking boy with red and black markings.
After that I dropped into the St Mungo Museum which is holding a photographic exhibition on the Afro Caribbean presence in Glasgow. That isn’t as dull and worthy as it sounds. The photography is brilliant. Well worth a look if you’re in the area.
As for the rest of the day, I’ll finish posting this then sit at the open window, swigging beer and a spot of light reading.
So let’s have your plans, jokes, funny stuff and bits of bobs of interest. Keep it light and NO BLOODY POLITICS!

Tis, as you say a beautiful day. One Nil to Thistle too!
There are so leggy girls in Glasgow!
No politics, OK. I’ll think about it.I am decorating or at least thinking about decorating! Just throwing rubbish away. I have thought about it and I am thinking of course about politics, about Usman, and Imran and Ok. No more….
I am concerned about Anas he is spending too much time at Myspace. I am waiting for him to put an invite to a house party on his page.
What in the name of God is Anas doing on MySpace. Tell him to come back this instant.
ZinZin,
Are we all going! A Pickled Politics flash mob! That should be very interesting.
Anyone seen Sunshine, talk about a visually impressive movie.
oh yeah for GODS SAKE someone stop the ozzies from winning the world cup!
They are playing some rather good cricket yaar!
You’re in the states?
God save Hollywood from you.
Been to the ghettos yet? The Allies?
I’m warming to the idea already Douglas. First one to get a caution writes the weekend thread.
I’ve just looked at Anas on MySpace. Hope it’s more relaxing for him than PP
OK. Play the bubble bursting game.

damn double post!
Woke at 2pm, and went to Firhill. 2-1 Thistle, and they’re safe from relegation. Relief more than joy.
Seems the old Cosmic Ordering got round to it eventually……
A bit hungover from last night, but I shall be a happy soul this weekend, what with the Speedway tomorrow and hopefully more nice weather.
As for myspace, It keeps me in touch with people I’d forgotten existed, but beyond that……
I did hear that Anas was planning to hold a Skins party whilst his parents were out of town…
To my ears, the history of the Caribbeans in Britain generally or Glasgow in particular could never sound dull and worthy. Granted, it may not get the Mel Gibson treatment but it’s pretty interesting anyway.
don’t i look a lot like inayat bunglawala?
Hehehe I nearly added you until I read that!:P

Leggy girls? It’s never dull in Hull.
Anas, You don’t look like Inayat Bunglawala. Nice jersey you had on in your last photo. If your having a skins party, I’m having it.
Jailhouselawyer,
And I’d never thought of Hull as an awayaday before. I’m away to sort out my passport. Leggy birds? Well, I’m a twitcher…..
Love love love the St Mungo Museum! Have seen wonderful exhibits there.
Am loving the sunshine as well, although it has been distracting me from actual work all weekend and all I can think of is BBQ. We have a big yard that is suddenly sprouting colourful tulips (despite there being no gardeners in the house) and it is begging from grilled meats and fish and veg. And coleslaw and Carribean beer.
The downside to the sunny weather is that it has immediately brought out an army of leering catcalling dudes (they seem to appear with the mosquitoes like clockwork!) but I will focus on the promise of bbq instead.
For Chairwoman
I seem to remember reading somewhere that you are in a wheelchair at the moment and you have something wrong with your arm. Well if needed here is a hug and get well soon!
evening all.
In case you hadn’t noticed, Observer Woman Magazine has been saving the world.
We’ve been offering our full and unconditional support of course.

Thank you William. I am waiting to go into hospital which hopefully will improve my mobility considerably. Unfortunately, there is only one consultant in the whole of England (I don’t know about Scotland and Wales) who deals with my not uncommon condition. Therefore, nobody has any idea when my treatment will start.
Is this what is meant by being detained at Her Majesty’s Pleasure?
“On one side stand all the bigots who hate, despise and look down on others based on their race, religion, caste, sexuality and nationality. And there are others who choose to reject that hatred. Whose side do you want to be on?”
race, religion, caste, sexuality, so where is disability? I can tell you, people with disabilities get all of the abuse and hate you quote and more, Always the last to get mentioned.
If it comes to some kind of big war between all the minorites, sadly I suspect the disabled are going to be picked to join sides last.
Unless they have machine guns hidden in their wheelchairs, of course.
Good luck with your treatment, CW. Hope you get much better.
Anas – Thank you very much, but I expect to be sitting here for some time, before I go in to hospital for 6 to 8 weeks.
They don’t know if they’re wi-fied so I don’t know if I can take my laptop, but apparently you can rent some sort of tv cum internet access thing, so I’m thinking of doing a special ‘hospital’ blog, something along the lines of ‘From a LiberalFascist’s Sick Bed’ or something like that. Suggestions welcome.
Soru – Packing heat right now
This week been invited to an Indian wedding (Hindu)
in Fiji. I was told it would be quite a big affair.
Of course this is all just fine and dandy except for the thought “me got to Fiji”. Oh my goodness I only went to Europe for a short holiday once in 1980. Also I cannot possibly afford it. I am sure they won’t miss me if it is going to be a big one. Maybe I will just send them a card. Hope I can afford the postage.
fingers crossed for you chairwoman..seriously is there only ONE consultant??!
Good luck Chairy (*prays he doesn’t have to run marathon with dodgy sacroiliac*)
yeah CW-aunty-ji. All the best with the treatment. Just touch this screen and BELIEVE!
Anyone know any good emails that sell sex aids such as viagra or penis enlargement tools?
