Guido gets Fawked

Posted By Sunny On 30th March, 2007 @ 7:18 pm In Media, Blog | Comments Disabled

As it’s Friday this is good for a laugh. On Wednesday night BBC Newsnight featured a short film by our tory blogger ‘friend’ Guido Fawkes, and later a studio discussion with him and Michael White of the Guardian, discussing whether mainstream journalists are too close to the Westminster circle to provide a good understanding of what’s going on behind the scenes. Paxo was moderating of course.
You can watch the short film and discussion from [1] Chicken Yoghurt (from where I nicked the title).

It is the nearest you’ll get to car-crash TV, as [2] Brownie on HP also points out. Guido, or Paul Staines, makes some good points but gets completely slaughtered in the discussion. It’s fun watching again and again.

My own view is that individual journalists do indeed end up sometimes getting too close to politicians, blatantly colouring their reporting and commentary as a result. And plus you have certain newspapers with their own pro-Labour or pro-Tory agenda. For example the Telegraph ran so many silly articles on the Smith Institute at the time Guido was trying to flind mud at them that it became almost comical. To that extent I welcome more media proliferation because I think a breaking of the traditional circle would encourage journalists to compete to break stories politicians would rather keep silent, or pass them on to blogs that do their work for them.
Update: Since Amir’s become hysterical in the comments again, I’d like to rub salt in his wounds by pointing out [3] this parody by Tim. (via [4] Poons).

I notice that on his own blog, Staines claims that the ‘filmed in shadows’ nonsense was urged on him by the Newsnight editor. So either Paxman or Staines were lying, as Paxman clearly expresses exasperation at this ploy.

Having said that, Paxman went easy on him, and even bailed him out.

#2 Comment By leon On 30th March, 2007 @ 7:35 pm

It was a painful experience to watch. Paul can’t think fast on his feet it appears, he was trounced plain and simple. Hilarious!

#3 Comment By Kulvinder On 30th March, 2007 @ 7:52 pm

Ouch, to be fair hes said ‘ouch’ on his blog. I’m unsure what Paul Staines is really about to all intents and purposes hes a political gossip columnist and near enough admits to that. There aren’t that many serious discussions that he brings up and when he does his readers have an unfortunate tendency to try (un)witty one-liners rather than say anything interesting.

In his NN piece he tried to be ’serious’ and was eaten alive.

#4 Comment By ZinZin On 30th March, 2007 @ 7:58 pm

Leon you have summed it up perfectly.

#5 Comment By jailhouselawyer On 30th March, 2007 @ 9:37 pm

It was a pleasure to watch. I was impressed with Guido’s film. But put under the spotlight he melted like butter. It was amateur (or should that be immature?) night. Childish performance by Guido. Perhaps he will play Ratty in the Christmas pantomime? Fancy grassing on your source! Not a good example to follow. Britain’s number one folly. Hardly politics for adults is it? The Muppet Show. A suicide bomber who blew himself up.LOL.

#6 Comment By Sunny On 30th March, 2007 @ 9:53 pm

Yeah I was going to point that out Jailhouselawyer. Saying that Nick Robinson was his source (the worst things a journo can do) was not only stupid, but apparently rubbish by his own admission later. I mean what was the point?
He clearly didn’t think his arguments through, and an annoyed Michael White tore him a new one.

#7 Comment By jailhouselawyer On 30th March, 2007 @ 10:24 pm

He was trolled, a minnow caught by sharks. Planet Guido must be a comfort to him. The real world can be a cruel place. Perhaps, he will see it as a wake up call? Nah. Not as bright as he thinks.

#8 Comment By Jagdeep On 30th March, 2007 @ 11:13 pm

How hilarious! I was cracking up and cringing at the same time, Chris Morris could not have bettered it if he was satirising a pompous buffoon of a blogger.

#9 Comment By Amir On 30th March, 2007 @ 11:13 pm

Guido has many, many faults [political and personal]…

But for you people to take malicious pleasure in his personal suffering is fucking pathetic. D’ya git me?

Grow up. Middle-class, ponsy, snooty, sandal-wearing, lentil-sipping, Guardian-reading cunts like yourselves deserve a proper beating.

I have no time for stupid over-privileged bloggers like yourselves.

Sunny, if you want to have a public debate with ME, fucking go for it. I’ll make you look like a dunce. And you too Leon.

Bring it on. On 18 Doughty Street.

I’ll take you both on.

Will you call them cunts? That’ll show them who’s boss.

#11 Comment By ZinZin On 30th March, 2007 @ 11:17 pm

Personal suffering? he lost a debate not a loved one.

#12 Comment By Amir On 30th March, 2007 @ 11:17 pm

Taking pleasure in other people’s misfortunes…

It fucking winds me up.

You have no sense of decency or honour.

Bitchy middle-class bloggers.

#13 Comment By Amir On 30th March, 2007 @ 11:19 pm

Guido fucked up.

Tim Ireland fucked up against Iain.

Have some fucking honour. Don’t rub salt into the wound.

#14 Comment By Jagdeep On 30th March, 2007 @ 11:26 pm

hahaha

#15 Comment By Jagdeep On 30th March, 2007 @ 11:28 pm

When he says he doesnt want people to see his face and so people cant recognise him and Michael White said I saw you at a party wearing a rugby shirt and you looked like a prat — that was hilarious. What a buffoon — the David Brent of the blogging world.

#16 Comment By Don On 30th March, 2007 @ 11:28 pm

Amir,

This is now just attention seeking.

Staines’ personal suffering? He can cry me a river. He stepped up to the crease, fair play for that, but he blew it, twattishly.

And what’s with the challenges? What else do we do but publicly debate around here? Say something worth engaging with. You can do it, you just haven’t done it lately.

#17 Comment By Clairwil On 30th March, 2007 @ 11:31 pm

Jesus! I wish I’d seen it now. If it helps I’m willing to have a public debate with anyone. Everyone already thinks I’m a buffoon. It can’t get any worse and we’ll all get a laugh out it. Last one to the town hall is a rotten egg!

#18 Comment By Amir On 30th March, 2007 @ 11:35 pm

Don

Fuck off. This anti-Guido post is just pure vindictive blogging…

Sunny can barely speak the English language!!

And he’s got the fucking nerve to make a fool out of Guido. Pathetic.

Write a post about Sudan, about the suffering in Zimbabwe, about the plight of the British troops in Iran… not this. Fucking pathetic. At least us “lumpen proletariat” have the fucking decency not to stick the knife into one another’s backs. You people are such spineless cowards.

Spineless, I tell ye.

#19 Comment By Amir On 30th March, 2007 @ 11:41 pm

Yes…

Guido is a cunt.

He says many cuntish things.

But kicking a dog when he’s down is fucking pathetic.

You people have no sense of decency.

#20 Comment By ZinZin On 30th March, 2007 @ 11:46 pm

Next step Amir is admitting that you are a cunt.

As for libel fawkes what does he expect after such a performance.

#21 Comment By jailhouselawyer On 30th March, 2007 @ 11:52 pm

Amir @18: That last comment was below the belt. Admit it you was wrong on that score. His English is ok he’s just and ugly so and so. But he says he was born with that face and has to live with it. There is no malice in seeing a complete prat make a bigger prat of himself. It was justice.

#22 Comment By Amir On 31st March, 2007 @ 12:10 am

Yes,

I AM a cunt. I’m a proper cunt.

But at least I have respect for the underdog. Taking pleasure in another man’s suffering is
totally ANATHAMA to the way I’ve been brought up. Londoners deserve a proper kick up their collective arses.

Guido made a fool out of himself. Stop rubbing it in. Have some fucking humanity.

#23 Comment By ZinZin On 31st March, 2007 @ 12:21 am

Guidos many things but an underdog?

I am not a Londoner Amir. Those you don’t laugh when a muckracker who sues for libel gets his comeuppance must be a saint never mind a humanitarian.

Natural Justice or what comes around goes around if thats how you wish to put it.

#24 Comment By Clairwil On 31st March, 2007 @ 12:31 am

Amir,
Do you seriously think that Guido wouldn’t be gloating if one of his opponents had made such a tit of themselves?

Come on. This is special pleading and it’s pathetic. I can’t work out whether he’s had too much tit or not enough. When the local news do a vox pop I make allowances and know that I wouldn’t be much better if I was stopped on my way to work by a TV crew. He appeared on Newsnight voluntarily. He’s a gossip columnist out of his depth.

I can’t say I enjoy his ’suffering’ having now watched it on You Tube. It’s just embarrassing and a waste of a good debate. It’s no good whining, everyone knows that Newsnight isn’t the Special Olympics. Get up and fight, take your blows like an adult or go play marbles with the kiddies. It’s not difficult. He’s over-confident and he’s displayed it on TV. Big deal. I reserve my humanity for people in far worse fixes.

Al that said isn’t he well spoken? I do love a posh voice.

As for Sunny’s grasp of English. I can’t say I’ve ever had any difficulty understanding him. Care to supply us with some evidence?

#25 Comment By Kulvinder On 31st March, 2007 @ 12:34 am

I have no time for stupid over-privileged bloggers like yourselves.

Lies.

#26 Comment By Jagdeep On 31st March, 2007 @ 12:38 am

Amir, the amount of personal abuse you throw at Sunny is fascinating. You’ve always focussed your animosity on him. In the last few days you’ve gone into personal abusive overdrive, calling him a twat, saying he can’t speak English properly, calling him a cunt, loads of different stuff. I have to say every time you do that he goes up in my estimation — first of all because to be the source of your hysteria and ire makes him a dude as far as I’m concerned, and secondly because he must have the patience of a saint to have a pipsqueak like you come into his home and abuse him ad hominem in the barest terms and not ban your ass.

Hundal must be smoking some good weed or practising good meditation and yoga and something to keep him cool — respect is due.

Grow up. Middle-class, ponsy, snooty, sandal-wearing, lentil-sipping, Guardian-reading cunts like yourselves deserve a proper beating.

Er, not middle class, snooty? Doubtful, I don’t wear sandals and never have, not a veggie (I love my steaks me), and oh yeah the Guardian is just one of the twenty or so news sources (and that’s not including the 20-30 political blogs)I read EVERY work day.

You’re bonkers mate, seriously I think you should consider taking a break from PP, it isn’t doing your mental state any good…

Amir,
For God’s sake? Has your friend got hold of your laptop again. I was ever so fond of you when you used to slink in like a big cat and bat us about with your golden paw. Now you’re on about cock sucking and ‘tasting girth’. I’ve been sucking cock for a good 17 years now and not once have I tasted a girth, though I have felt a bit of muscular strain in the jaw.

Keep the heid!

#38 Comment By leon On 31st March, 2007 @ 1:14 am

Well Mark Oaten for a start, but going by your oh so humane logic what does it matter who the target is.

If Guido can dish it he can swallow it too. Simple really.

Please, don’t do it.

It’s against everything I [6] believe in.

That pervert deserved everything he got. His wife and kids were put through absolute misery because their father wanted to eat faeces and sniff rectums. Dirty, dirty man…

But no, wait, I forgot, Mark Oaten is what “progressivism” regards as “progressive.” Because he sniffs bottoms and eats shite, he’s morally superior to everyone else. That’s what I love about the “progressive” point-of-view,… it’s SO, err, regressive.

Hey Sunny,

Please dont ban Amir…

#58 Comment By Refresh On 1st April, 2007 @ 7:20 pm

Sunny - why have you banned Amir?

Clairwil - I am astonished you ever considered Amir the big cat.

Amir - assuming you haven’t been banned from reading PP - why did you have to use such filthy language?

Amir and Sunny - why the obsession with this Guido? Neither of you have added anything to anything.

Jagdeep - Sunny had not banned Amir before because of intervention from a number of us. Including myself. He adds to the experience. And is pure entertainment, and Sunny did become to understand that.

I would ban him (for a short period) for his extremely poor and prejudicial use of the english language.

#59 Comment By Don On 1st April, 2007 @ 7:44 pm

I think he needs a break. He has been barely coherent recently, Sunny’s doing him a favour. Maybe when he gets back to his smug, slippery self again …

#60 Comment By Chairwoman On 1st April, 2007 @ 7:57 pm

Sunny - Please don’t ban Amir.

Amir - Stop it. There’s absolutely no need for what Refresh has rightly called filthy language. Coprophilia is most definitely a minority interest.

#61 Comment By Clairwil On 1st April, 2007 @ 8:15 pm

Come on Refresh, have you never noticed the pleasure with which cats attack? Very like Amir in the old days. Recently he’s been like a drunk uncle at a wedding attempting to settle a few old score. Frankly I’m worried.

#62 Comment By douglas clark On 1st April, 2007 @ 8:22 pm

I’d assume Sunny banned him because Sunny doesn’t want to get his ass sued off by a horrible person whose internet domicile is Antigua, or thereabouts. The horrible person goes around disguised as a fifth of November plotter. Rarely revealing much about himself, apart from his self serving arrogance.

#63 Comment By ZinZin On 1st April, 2007 @ 8:36 pm

Sunny banned him because of his appalling homophobic comments about Mark Oaten.

As for Libel Fawkes he made political bloggers everywhere look like twits. How he gained such a high profile is beyond my understanding.

#64 Comment By douglas clark On 1st April, 2007 @ 10:17 pm

Zin zin,

Agreed. Frankly there is more controversy on your web site than there is here :-)

#65 Comment By Carl On 2nd April, 2007 @ 10:33 am

Just like to point out to Amir, I’m proudly working class, comprehensive upbringing, solid working-class East-End roots.

And I still thought the ponce got his arse handed to him on a plate. Frankly he deserved it. He mouths off about journalists being weak, ineffective and spineless and then turned into a jelly when he finally got out from behind his VDU. All mouth, no trousers - and he did the bloggers of the UK no good service in the process.

It was a joy to watch him get reamed. As for kicking him when he’s down, it’s a common approach. You do it in the hope the twat won’t get up again. Pointless, as Guido will be bouncing back faster than his own sycophantic-fans.

So up yours and the bike you rode in on sunshine.

#66 Comment By bananabrain On 2nd April, 2007 @ 11:18 am

I find it terribly ironic that Amir:

(2) tells PP how Mark Oaten deserved it when Guido kicked him when he was down.

Does the phrase “double standards” mean anything to Amir?

#68 Comment By Ravi Naik On 2nd April, 2007 @ 6:39 pm
