It’s The Clairwil’s Birthday Open Thread
Hello,
Actually it’s not my birthday until Monday but I expect I shall have forgotten about it by next week. So I’m starting early.
My weekend plans involve loafing, taking snaps and staring out the window, perhaps a spot of scribbling but all nice relaxing stuff. I have no doubt all you naughty picklers are yawning at the next round of orgies or taking part in ‘extreme sports’. Feel free to share.
I suppose I should give you all something interesting to look at to reward you for dropping by, so here’s what’s come to my attention this week:
2. A picture of Michael Jackson so unwise, ill-judged and just plain wrong that it makes my eyes water. What were they thinking? Do I want to know? Were they thinking at all? Yuck.
3. Supporting the troops isn’t as easy as it looks.
4. New Yorkers say the funniest things.
That’s it from me. Leave your links, jokes, stories and chit chat below.
Cheers

Happy birthday! Where’s the cake? is it eggless?
A very happy birthday and many happy returns of the day. I want not just an eggless cake as Sunny has suggested but also dairy free. hehe!
Good God! A vegan cake. Is that possible and what on earth does it taste like?
Happy birthday Clairwil
Its your birthday and you can have as many eggs in your cake as your heart desires. Just make sure theres jam in it.
Is that possible and what on earth does it taste like?
Yes there is an eggless cake. Its pretty popular in India amongst vegans like Gujjus and people like my gran.
It tastes horrible though. Sort of soggy, under-heated egg-cake.
And happy birthday Clailwil auntieji…
A very happy birthday clairwil,I think we should have a virtual party!
Happy birthday to you
squashed tomatoes and eggless cakes!!!
come and buy some
come and buy some
squashed tomatoes and eggless cakes!!!
Many happy returns, Clairwil. I will pass on the eggless cake, though. Bleargh.
I’ll bring the red wine!
Birthday Greetings Clairwil!
*Raises cyber glass*
Happy Birthday! And yeah eggless cake? Seriously that’s sounds a little ‘orrible.
did some one say wine?
anyways Sunny you are taking this whole vegitarian thingie a lil’ too far… Being a Punjabi vegan you’re an oddball enough. Seriously arent you ever tempted to have a bite of Murg Makhni sometime?
Vegitarianism is bad enough if you are born into a vegan family like me, but to convert to vegitarianism is madness mesays.
Ex-sacred-thread-wearer Vikrant
Seriously that’s sounds a little ‘orrible.
Trust me, it tastes even more horrible than it sounds.
I eat eggs but have freinds who don’t. I have tried eggless caked and they are fine. Maybe I am a funny one then as they say.

But try substituting carob for chocolate in cakes then that is a problem.
I want some of dat bitch soup! You tell her man!
Happy birthday my scottish cyber friend, or whatever it is I can call you.
I’m in agony btw. Had to pull out of a half marathon last week due to e-coli related dehydration but I managed 17 miles this morning. Thing is, the top of my thigh is killing me. It’s central but it feels like it might be connected to my groin. Why oh why did I enter the London Marathon?
I have a double-40th birthday party at a west end club to go to tonight. Don’t think I’ll be boogying though.
Any doctors in the house?
Clairwill,
Congratulations, twenty again?
Happy Birthday, Clairwil. Vodka-infused ladoos for everyone.
Vodka infused laddus? That is a new one,i have heard of Bhang or Cannibis infused laddus but not vodka!
Seriously though in India cannibis is freely available, at Holy time bhang infused drinks are offered but there is no problem with addiction. How come we spend so much money and energy here trying to control drugs like cannibis and still have problem with addiction and drug related crime?
I cant work it out. Can anyone enlighten me?
AArrrrghhg please read CANABISS! A long day and more red wine than i should have!
Canabis infused ladoos? Mmmmmm….. sounds good!
Vikrant – Proud to be one of the few Punjabi vegetarians… although there are an increasing number these days!
Happy Birthday Clairwil. It occurred to me the other day that I wasn’t quite sure if I was thirty one or thirty two. For some reason, this made me very happy. More people should try forgetting what age they are….
Happy Birthday!
I hope you’ve got a long weekend
Cricket is bad for your health.
No I had to take my long weekend next week. A quiet lunch with mum and dad this week. The heroic acts of decadence are on hold. Now where do I get some of these naughty laddus?
Oh and El Cid. Sit down with your feet up before someone gets hurt.
I think it has been statistically proven that Indian cricket fans, right next to Pakistani cricket fans, are the silliest in the world.
@Katy: Not surprisingly the idiot was a Bong!
Heh, come July i’ll be officially a Brit… Its aboot the time I passed the Tebbit test.
Btw Sunny change the time… its it 6:30 in the blighty?
Btw Sunny change the time… isnt it 6:30 in the blighty?
I was just kidding about the “vodka ladoos”, by the way…..Although I’m sure some enterprising Punjabis somewhere could “invent” them for real if they stumble across this thread and get some ideas…..
Many happy returns for tomorrow.
In a rare cultural outing, I attended An Audience with Will Self last night. Acerbic, but suprisingly charming.
Don,
I have the dirty passions for Will Self. I love grumpy men. Not the grumpy old men though.
No! No no no. No, Clairwil, tell me that you were lying when you said that you had the dir… the dir…
*shudder*
thedirtypassionsforWillSelf.
*shudder*
There. I said it. Are you happy now? I said it. Ugh. Ugh.
Ok, why were we talking about cricket in last week’s thread?
I say we should ruin Clairwil’s thread this week too by talking about how bastard Bangladesh beat Bermuda, and chucked India out of the tournament
Happy Birthday Clairwil!
If anyone chucked India out of the tournament, it was India themselves.
But half the fun in supporting India, is the drama of it all, and for that very reason I will always love the Indian Cricket team!
Jai,
“I was just kidding about the “vodka ladoosâ€, by the way…..Although I’m sure some enterprising Punjabis somewhere could “invent†them for real if they stumble across this thread and get some ideas…..”
That actually sounds really good…how about bhang ladoos or bhang barfis? The equivalent to marijuana brownies.

Happy Birthday, Clairwil!

Sunny:
“I say we should ruin Clairwil’s thread this week too by talking about how bastard Bangladesh beat Bermuda, and chucked India out of the tournament”
I always feel out of the loop when it’s cricket time when everyone else is into it, and I am not. I find the game incredibly boring, right next to golf and baseball.
But still– Go Bangladesh!
Sunny, I know this is a progressive political discussion website with an Asian twist, but how about something on slavery and the thorny question of reparations.
I have some strong, perhaps surprising and mixed views on the subject.
..and am looking for and outlet
Was indentured labour slavery by other means? Is current indentured labour slavery by other means? People should be careful how they answer, as perhaps widespread organised slavery still persists and all this self congratulation is just to blot out the fact it still exists.
Justforfun
Vikrant – how did you get on with the Tebbit test. I think this year I might pass it
Just for fun – I think it might indeed be, and yes, this self congratulation, accompanied by organised self-abasement from people who have never personally owned another person, is somewhat premature.
Happy Birthday Clairwil!! Hope you have a fabulous day and the sun stays shining for you..
Happy birthday Clair
Can we go to the pub now then?
Ligali Strikes Again!
The bright-shirted black demonstrator, Toyin Agbetu of the African rights organisation Ligali, was only a dozen feet from all of them, with apparently no security guards to block him.
Toyin screams at the Queen at a slavery memorial service — all in a days work for the race hate warrior
