Sorry I’ve not blogged for a little while - been very busy with work and writing. I was also in Macedonia this week for a conference which was quite entertaining, and relaxing. The views were amazing.
    I’ll be back soon, promise!

This was the view from my hotel room! (looking towards Albania)

Ideal place for a few wind farms.

Sunny - Zdravo! (from my Macedonian wife).

Is that Ohrid or Struga? If it is where I think it is, there is a great little lake swimming spot just to the left of the shot.

But if you go to the restaurant, don’t eat the ‘jagula.’ Seriously.

Trofim - The Republic of Macedonia is not at all a place for windfarms. One thing my wife complains about is the amount of wind in the UK. And those ugly great useless bits of machinery would ruin the beautiful landscape. There is a very large amount of solar over there.

      Looks lovely Sunny.

Absolutely MaidMarian. Look at the trees! The view is similar to the ones here, but we only have stunted horizontal trees. We also have a nuclear power plant and don’t take advantage of being an island with tidal and wind power.

earwicga - Tidal certainly, wind I’m less convinced by.

Sunny could also go to the Pellister national park (bit of a drive, but the road in the RoM are OK - well the EU funded ones for Germans to travel on, but that’s another story). As a piece of conservation it is remarkable, especially by East European standards which are notoriously hit and miss.

I would also suggest the town Prilep, famed in the Balkans for two things, production of beer and production of tobacco. Prilep, as you might be able to guess, is party central - though personally an evening by Lake Ohrid is more to my taste.

      MaidMarian - it’s Ohrid ;)

Went swimming in the lake too - it was lovely.

      No I didn’t eat that - I’m vegetarian.

Sunny - Fantastic, wish I was there.

Try the Roman Amphitheatre (best to climb the hill out of the midday sun though!) for culture, the paper mill for a nice souvenir and a pub with a funny name and red sofas outside for a pint of Dab (oak beer)(don’t bother with Skopje beer).

Hope you enjoyed your trip, Sunny. Incredible photograph too.
